I've had the D+ for a few years for my daughter and then realized that all we watched was just a handful of movies on repeat (Frozen, Toystory, etc). So I cancelled it and just bought the movies.

Why make customer pay one time when u can make customer pay MANY time!?

End stage capitalism in full swing

3

u/696E6E6F 11d ago

So are you saying capitalism is about to end?

8

u/Flomo420 11d ago

more like this is the inevitable conclusion; the final iteration of it

9

u/militaryintelligence 11d ago

Oh, it's downhill from here. It'll get worse. The billionaires have almost all control of media and news outlets

8

u/JMC_MASK 11d ago

Capitalism creates the contradictions that will inevitably force it to come to and end. The 7-10 year recession/depression “business cycle” is what will lead to capitalists automating away all jobs in the name of searching for higher profits.

It either is replaced by socialism, or barbarism.

u/Vellc 11d ago

First we start with anarchism then the reset

1

u/OkCartographer7677 10d ago

Yeah, because so many countries that went through anarchism came out so much better.

0

u/JMC_MASK 10d ago

Nah anarchists have no order or structure. Socialism is the way.

1

u/Obelisk_M 9d ago

Anarchism doesn't reject structure; it rejects vertical hierarchy.

0

u/JMC_MASK 8d ago

Okay. And I’m saying the decentralized utopia that anarchists envision is not a pragmatic thing as some vertical hierarchy is still going to be needed in our transition away from capitalism.

Unless you think your decentralized entities are able to defeat highly organized capital, you’re going to need some “vertical hierarchy”.

But hey, yall are still comrades at the end of the day. So I won’t fight you that hard.

1

u/DoctorBlock 10d ago

Not really socialism. It would be plutocratism.

Reading comprehension at an all time low

2

u/Neat_Let923 11d ago

You realize that none of this would exist in any other economic system right…???

0

u/DoctorBlock 10d ago

China is communist so is Russia. Currently China is on a fast track to outpace the American economy in 2-5 years.

1

u/Neat_Let923 10d ago

Can’t tell if you’re a bot or just an idiot…

Both China and Russia are authoritarian capitalist countries.

How long do we have left dr?

u/Loose_Assignment_Map 11d ago

Have Disney month once a year. Their content doesn’t change enough to require paying for more than a month each year

2

u/Sandscarab24 11d ago

Sum ting wong!

1

u/DildoTebaggins 11d ago

Why say lot word when few word do trick.

1

u/solonit 11d ago

YYAARR!

38

u/izz-zz 11d ago

And Disney have already done this in Australia and New Zealand and not enough people even noticed. The end game is obvious.

25

u/BlargerJarger 11d ago

I fucking noticed. Furious with Disney over my incomplete disc collection after they bought 50% or more of the world’s movies.

1

u/Maximum-Milk-8028 8d ago

I wonder (other than Australia ofc) if their economy is more comfortable, hence them not noticing.

25

u/perton 11d ago

Even more reason to just keep pirating everything! I still like to purchase physical copies for stuff I really like, but hey, if they want to take away the only way they get any money from me, that’s their choice I guess

1

u/Previous_Composer934 11d ago

You don't need physical media to own something. My mp4 file is better than a DVD disk and you have just as much control over it

2

u/TheShaydow 11d ago

You are being pedantic.

1

u/AdoraSPOP 11d ago

Huurr duurr

1

u/TheShaydow 11d ago

What an intelligent way to not disagree with me.

1

u/Previous_Composer934 10d ago

am I? Every time this topic comes up people talk about literal physical media and how it's better. I couldn't care less about physical media

1

u/enixlinked 11d ago

I just wanna see some angry mobs causing actual chaos and cost them loads of money. I feel like that's the only thing they'll listen to.

Same. We go to Goodwill or go on eBay and get the movie for $1-$3. Take it anywhere too with a portable DVD player, no WiFi needed.

5

u/GucciTheSnowman 10d ago

Or you can just download them for free and put hundreds of movies on a little USB drive the size of your thumb.

Skate. Enlisted and a few other games give you online functions without any Xbox live or gamepass or whatever it's called now

36

u/Miserable_Pride_5693 11d ago

This is what I’ve been doing work video games for a few years now. I used to have Xbox Gamepass ultimate. They kept jacking up the price. I realized if I buy the 2-3 games I play a year it’s cheaper than paying for ultimate for a year

10

u/blueberrycauzez 11d ago

This was always the plan - operate at a loss to attract lots of subscribers, then jack up prices. You'll still have more subscribers than if you started at a rational price.

1

u/StijnDP 10d ago

That was the plan to get market share and ultimately dominance but that didn't work.

They started ignoring getting embarrassed by Steam.
PSN plus has also started costing a kidney.
And Nintendo hasn't figured out that the internet exists yet.

They can't grab market share with a low price so it stopped making sense trying to.

1

u/LevelInspector1025 10d ago

to be fair, PSN plus ONLY started raising their prices specifically for different tiers, and it's priced way better than game pass and has barely changed price wise. The cheapest tier which still gets you all of the stuff it used to have (your 2 free games and online play) is now CHEAPER than it was in the past. The other 2 tiers are actually priced very well for what you get out of them. As far as "game passes" go, Sony won with flying colors.

As far as Nintendo, you're absolutely right, they haven't managed to create anything substantial.

0

u/Miserable_Pride_5693 8d ago

Oh I know. I stopped subscribing once the price point crossed my line

15

u/Remarkable-Month-241 11d ago

Same! New movie purchased and we repeat watch our favorites

2

u/xHarleen777Quinzelx 11d ago

u/latunza 11d ago

Yup. I realized my kids outgrew Disney and I’m the only one who watches it for the occasional Marvel show once a year and the 2 animated movies. Wtf am I doing 😂

1

u/Worth-Reputation3450 10d ago

Yea without her, i would also watch like ironman 1,2,3 on repeat.

1

u/tedshor 11d ago

My granddaughter is happy with the offerings on YouTube. Frozen is one of her favorites, too.

1

u/Worth-Reputation3450 10d ago

My daughter usually watches youtube either but youtube is just too much of a dopamine hit as she can just press any other content immediately. I was seeing her switch contents like every 5 seconds.
Movies last a few hours and she would have to sit through the entire movie to enjoy it. So i give her youtube kids when she would watch for less than 30 minutes, then shows for less than an hour. If her watch time might be longer than an hour, it will have to be movies without the option to just change around (she still gets to decide what to watch but i will change for her)

1

u/dazzo31 11d ago

I was content with paying £100 a year for the convenience of Disney+. But I own blurays of everything my kids watch. The moment they raised prices subscription was canceled. I can't believe so many people are paying double a month to watch now.

1

u/MobAssassin3 10d ago

Ive been trying to cancel for 4 months. Every time i do they just charge me the next month anyway

1

u/powerbook01 8d ago

Man I miss blockbuster and their popcorns

1

u/KimchiTheGreatest 8d ago

This is actually genius

1

u/KimchiTheGreatest 8d ago

Just convinced my bf to do this lol

1

u/SwordOfJiang 11d ago

I admin a plex server for my friends and family. Pretty funny to see watch habits from behind the scenes; people generally have one or two comfort shows and just watch those

0

u/paint-the-forest 11d ago

Crazy that you would still support them by buying the movies
