Welcome to a town where nobody speaks up anymore.
The people here decided their voices didnโt matter. Someone else would do it. Someone else would decide. So the town went quiet, and eventually they lost their voices for good.
Walk through it if you dare.
When: Friday, October 16, 5 to 9 PM
Where: Kelly Family Homestead, 46908 254th Street, Crooks, SD
RSVP: Eventbrite
Itโs a real haunted house with lights, sound, scares and a little dark comedy, staged in a barn thatโs been standing since 1896. Family friendly and open to everyone.
Why October 16?
South Dakotaโs voter registration deadline is Monday, October 19. Thereโs no same-day registration and no online registration here. Miss it and youโre out for November 3.
So on your way out of the haunt you can check your registration on the spot, pull up your own ballot and read what the four constitutional amendments actually say. Candidates and local organizations will be there too. Every candidate in the area is invited, whatever their party.
Why do this at all?
People are tired. Thereโs a lot of weight on folks right now and the usual way we do politics adds to it. We wanted to try something different: get neighbors in a room, build something fun together and let the voting part come from a place of light instead of dread.
Want to help?
You can work the parking lot, join the haunt as part of the cast or come to build nights Wednesday, Thursday and all day Friday. All kinds of hands and skills welcome. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/w3hdsEuHFNvPjU5z7
