Sorry for bad quality, but this is ridiculous. After hearing that Pokémon bank was shutting down I knew I needed to work on the crystal VC Celebi. Decided to sit down today as I had nothing to do and not even an hour later do I get it.

I come to you for advice. Last year I shiny hunted Ho-Oh in HeartGold and managed to catch it in a matching Rapid Ball after only 210 SRs. I was super satisfied with that shiny. I instantly decided to hunt Lugia too and catch it in a Premier Ball to match colours as well.

After failing my first shiny Lugia at 2,241 resets because I refused to throw my Master Ball and it wouldn’t stay in a Premier Ball, I hunted Lugia for months until today, 10 months later at 12,260 resets, it shined again. I threw 47 Premier Balls and it escaped every single one of them, then I threw my Master Ball because I honestly do not want to hunt it again and I wanted it to be over already. However, it irks me because a shiny legendary in a Master Ball looks shady as hell. It looks exactly like the shiny Lugia I RNG’d in Emerald years ago. So it bothers me that it’s not in a Premier Ball.

How would you feel about editing its Pokeball with PKSM? On the one hand I’d feel guilty about editing a Pokemon illegally, as it would not feel entirely legitimate to me. But on the other hand seeing that Master Ball already leaves a bad taste in my mouth after such a long and exhausting hunt.

I've seen the recent posts about the impossible Treecko and Torchic VC shinies that seem to be mostly unobtainable now but did you know there was a time when you could get a 1:8 female ratio shiny Pokémon with the Gen 1 VC titles? These shinies are already completely lost to time.

Usually, these should be impossible because of how Gen 1/2 determines shininess. However, when Poké Transporter released for the Gen 1 VC, there was not only a bug on what determined shiny Pokémon, but the gender was also re-assigned with the correct gender ratio of that species when transferring it to Bank.

That means between 24 Jan 2017 and 5 Sep 2017 theoretically, you were be able to get the starters, fossils, eevee, and snorlax shiny if you hit the odds of 1:8,192 in game and then again 1:8 when transfering it. That's a combined total of 1:65,536!

Over the last two weeks I was busy developing a patch for Pokémon Bank to not only preserve the connectivity of Gen 6/7 games, but also to bring back this obscure fact in form of an Easter egg: https://github.com/devEnju/offline_bank

I'd love to hear on how you'd think to be able to hunt these Pokémon with the patch and hope you'll find the preservation as useful as I do.

The last of my shiny team - this one I think was the longest for encounters but I didn’t count the other ones because I didn’t have my counter yet. Kyogre took longer because the resets took longer but I suspect it was fewer SRs. So happy to have my team completed! Will post the hall of fame pic when I finally beat the E4

(Obviously I did 10,000 on the counter and then it resets to 0, it was 11,956 total SR)

This hunt has been my white whale!! I was convinced I would go into 50k (I almost wanted to in a way for bragging rights lol).

In the time I found this green boi, I used a second switch and started a LeafGreen file and shiny hunted Bulbasaur. I got it after 6,604 resets (and over 10k on my GBA and 9k on my phone but that’s a different story haha)

These long hunts always make you think “am I going through resets too fast? Is my RNG messed up?” You also get worried that you might reset over it due to muscle memory! But you just gotta push through and remember that RNGesus giveth, and RNGesus taketh.

Anyways.. onto Squirtle!

I spent two days resetting Mewtwo, and when the shiny appeared, I lost it because I ran out of healing items. The next day I reset it again, and the shiny appeared, but I lost it because it critically hit Mewtwo. Now I'm on my third reset, but this time it's taking longer

So I took like a 2 month break from shiny hunting my last 2 remaining team members in Pokemon X, I already had a ton of eevee eggs that I got before taking a break and after 14 and a half box full of eevees I finally hatched Pixie! But the even crazier part was when I started hatching eggs for noibat and got it in only FIVE eggs.

Started this on Sunday and wasn’t even past 200 resets. I ACTUALLY almost soft reset over this cuz I was spacing out watching tv. Thank god I locked in for a half second. My last shiny took over a month so safe to say my monthly luck is used up.

Absolute tragedy they shiny locked this, it's easily one of my absolute favourite shinies from Alola, but I can remove shiny locks so problem solved!

It's Mild nature!

I came back to full odds hunting and my first hunt back wasn't kind with 23.630 encounters for a first phase Patrat. However my target Purrloin shined 1h and 762 encouters later !

Ended up wanting to get back to my Sapphire SBQ and shiny shuppet appeared not even less than 1h and 348 encouters later.

That's what full odds is all about.

Just a bit over 9,000 Gastly encounters on one system and I find this guy instead. It’s pretty neat but the nature sure is a spit in the face.

I didn't understand how many variables went into encounters and that one should count encounters by hand.

Since my first hunt was Spinda in Emerald, I spent hours walking every ash-covered patch of grass in the fewest step I could to step on every ash-covered slot. I did this multiple times, counting the number of spinda I encountered in every patch each time, hoe many steps it took, to create a statystic. Then I proceeded to go patch to patch, counting every time I completed all of them in the hope to calculate an estimate.

Math is NOT my strong suit, but it was honest work...

Just finished my first shiny hunt ever! I grew up playing the Pokémon games, but I never really had the patience to shiny hunt (nor did I really know the methods behind shiny hunting), so I never really bothered with it. I always thought they were neat and that was that; However, I just bought a 3ds to play a few games and figured I'd play through Moon and maybe shiny hunt.

Well, a week later, and here he is: my very first shiny.

I’m now realizing how lucky I’ve been on my DTQ on my soul silver.. 5/6 pokemon in under 15,000 encounters total.

Since then I’ve phased 2 times for a safari zone larvitar (not horrible but please.. just give me the larvitar.)

I decide okay… maybe let’s just go for nidoran male, I love shiny nidoking.. repel trick route 35 for 60% chance at nidoran (m/f, at this point I’ll take either) I get the rarer Drowzee for another phase.

All while at 160 hours (I’d say around 17k to account for inefficiency when resetting) on FRLG for shiny Charmander.

I went so long without a shiny I was so happy to finally see drowzee at least. HELP!!!!!!!

Follow-up to the completely random shiny tentacool I got back in February after buying a new DSi from Akihabara.

So happy to have this hunt done, Latias is definitely an incredible one! Still not sure if luxury ball was the best fit…
