Reverse engineer DV implementation to fix red push?
With recent AI developments, would it theoretically be possible to reverse engineer Dolby Vision to finally fix red push on Nvidia Shield? Hell, perhaps add VP9 and HDR10+ if hardware can do it.

Shield is notoriously bad in terms of DV support as confirmed by multiple users. You might be lucky not to notice it but it is definitely there. https://www.avsforum.com/threads/shield-2019-pro-and-dolby-vision.3223081/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic

Like the likely million plus owners, never had an issue, owned a 2015 and now 2019, it comes up occasionally in discussions with select users, but rarely see it mentioned, I presume it's device specific regarding TV, I have lg oled, Dolby vision, running shield through pioneer lx805, never seen an issue at all, perhaps TV processes, my friend has on a Samsung TV and a TCL, again never seen

Exactly, agree 100%.
My Shield goes through a Marantz AVR (which takes the sound) to my Philips OLED, I use Plex with a ton of content in Dolby Vision - and whenever DV is present in the file (check with Media Info regularly besides Plex telling me and beforehand the files as such say so), my Shield played every single one of them flawlessly. And has been since 2020 when I bought it.
So nothing I would miss there. Works absolutely flawlessly for me.

That post is from 5 years ago, when there were DV issues using Kodi on the Shield. That has long since been resolved. The only issue is the Shield not supporting DV7 FEL.

It has never been fixed as it a problem with Shield itself. The only thing Kodi introduced since was DV7 conversion to DV8.1 but this does not fix red push.

You want to fix something that isn't really an issue, it spread years ago originally from an av forum but again rarely anyone had issues. How many people have jumped on this post saying...I got the issue? The lack of says it all, never had any issues whatsoever, best device I have owned, I've bought many so called competitor boxes by just end up returning or selling them on. Got a homatics box r 4k plus, used once if you wanna buy 😆

Ignorance is bliss, and water is wet.
Just watch any BW scene encoded in DV. If you don't see pinky artifacts all over the picture then you should definitely get your eyes checked.

Interesting that a bug named red push shows up as pinky artifacts in black and white scenes. Black and white has no red to push. Is the Shield also colourising Casablanca now?
It's called red push, not pink push. Whoever named it didn't see pink either, so maybe check your eyes isn't the diagnosis you think it is.
Red push is a documented thing, but it was reported on Dolby Vision profile 7 and 8 files, mostly local playback. It was described as a subtle, uneven red shift that people only spotted in side by side comparisons. Many could not see it at all, whereas some could side by side.
There is a reason this and other subs and forums are not awash with red push complaints, if it still exists, clearly not effecting many, the shield is still selling out, why do you think people still buy it? I'd buy another tomorrow if mine went wrong...well I wouldn't as stock is hard to find currently.
Nobody described pink artifacts all over the picture in every black and white scene. I've owned a few Shields, still use my 2019 Pro, and have never seen it on an LG OLED or a TCL and in large screens, I think I would notice. If it's that obvious to you, post the file, player and settings, your own file, not something you grab from the net, so others can check it.
Ignorance? If a problem just doesn't exist for most people, including me, how is that ignorance? If it was the case, I would have ditched my shield, clearly I haven't. And do you not think, if it was simple as using Ai, all of a sudden you'll get HDR+, VP9? If it was that simple, someone would have done it long ago, or even Nvidia themselves. When your done with this, perhaps move on to re-inventing the wheel, I am sure Ai can help.

I think he's talking about backups with Dolby Vision or HDR+ encoded streams. Only the 2019 Shield Pro can successfully pass the codec to the AVR or TV. I myself have the 2015 so I know it doesn't work. But if I plug the backp directly to the TV's USB port it will successfully tell the TV to adjust the image settings (Dolby Vision). I think this is a hardware issue already with the (really old) Shield.

What the heck is 'red push'?
