Event Matchmaking Event – Round 5

Salamun Alaikum dear sisters and brothers,

We are excited to announce a new round of matchmaking event! As always, this initiative is aimed at fostering meaningful and respectful connections that hopefully lead to marriages within our community.

We welcome everyone to participate, whether a newcomer or a frequenter of the sub!

Please keep in mind:

– Be respectful towards your match (and us!): We want to create a positive, respectful experience for everyone. If you are not interested in someone’s profile after being matched, please inform them politely. You don’t need to explain why, just a simple informing message suffices. Also, if you change your mind and don't want to continue in the event, please inform us ASAP. Ghosting is disrespectful and unacceptable.

– Be precise about preferences: To avoid being matched with someone you’re not interested in, please be very clear and specific in your profile and your personal preferences. The more precise you are about your dealbreakers and preferences, the better we can match you with someone who aligns with your values and expectations. Don’t be shy. Honesty is crucial.

– Communicate with kindness: Always approach your matches with kindness and understanding. Even if you don’t feel the connection, remember that we are all trying to find someone who is right for us. Let’s keep this process respectful and dignified.

Application deadline:

The submission phase will run from now until 11 Oct. midnight (UTC). No application will be accepted after the deadline.

Process and how to apply:

(1) Fill out the submission template: Please submit your profile via the provided template (pinned comment). We need your basic details and preferences. Be thorough when listing what you do and don’t want in a partner. Accuracy is important to ensure we make the best possible matches for you.

(2) Submit via DM: Brothers submit their filled template via DM to the male mod (u/P3CU1i4R), sisters to female mod (u/morpholinoo). The last day to submit your profile is 11 Oct. (UTC), so make sure to apply before the deadline.

(3) We match: Once the submissions are closed, we will carefully review the profiles and match based on compatibility, preferences, and dealbreakers. Matched individuals (both sides) will be contacted by us with the username and profile of their match.

(4) End of the event: We will announce the end of matching by a post on the sub. Note: when the event has ended and you (a participant) haven’t received any message from us, it means we haven’t found a match for you.

(5) Feedback: We sincerely ask the participants to give us feedback on any aspects of the event. It will help us immensely in improving the event for future rounds, Insha’Allah.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out to us, the mods. Your participation and feedback are highly valued, and we look forward to helping you in your journey to find a meaningful connection.

May Allah (swt) bless you all with the best outcomes, and guide us towards what is best for us in this world and the Hereafter. Kindly keep us in your Duas.

Discussion [GUIDE] How to see post and comment history of someone who has it turned off so you can filter out weirdos and creeps.

Salam everyone!

I was just going through a post on this sub where a "shia" guy was looking for advice for a girl he liked. He had his post history turned off so you couldn't see his other posts. Turned out he was an atheist who actively hated Islam. Basically he might've been trying to trick the shia girl to marry him when she didn't even knew he was an atheist.

Here's the post in question which exposed him: https://www.reddit.com/r/exmuslim/comments/1rrj3d6/im_done_with_this_cult_religion/

If you go to his profile you actually can't see anything.

A few months ago another guy turned out to be a misogynistic person who believed that women shouldn't have consent in who they get to marry. That person also had his profile posts hidden.

What I'm trying to say is that platforms like Reddit provide anonymity which isn't bad but when you trying to find someone to connect to irl then it can be a problem since people can hide things about themselves. The last thing I want is for innocent women here to fall for some weirdo because the guy kept his profile hidden.

I'm making this guide for those people who want to know how to see the post history and comment history of someone who has it turned off. I'll teach you how to 'dork'. It sound complicated but it really isnt.

THIS GUIDE MIGHT LOOK COMPLICATED BUT IT ISN'T AT ALL. I PROMISE YOU.

  • DORKING

This is just a fancy word for saying "I'm performing an advance search using the search bar of reddit or google to find what posts has this person made".

A person might hide their posts on their profile but you need to realize that those posts STILL EXISTS. You just can't see them on their profile but those posts are in fact their on the subreddits on which they post.

I'm now going to teach you how to 'dork' or perform an advance search using searchbar of google and reddit.

1) Using reddit search bar

All you need to do is type the following in the search bar. That's it lol

author:"USERNAME"
or
author: "USERNAME"
or
author:USERNAME
or
author: USERNAME

So for example, if I had my profile hidden and you wanted to see what posts I made, you'd simply write author:"_Humble_Bumble_Bee" Now you can see my other posts. It's very simple. Sometimes nothing might show up, in that case try adding "u/" before the username. You can choose any of the 4 options above. Sometimes, one of them might not work so use the other.

What we basically did here was tell the searchbar to find for specific key words using the search operator "author:"

There's a small caveat here tho. You might not be able to see ALL of their posts. You can see most of them but not all. Like there still might be 20% of posts that'd still be hidden

If you wanna see 99% of their posts then we will move to dorking on the google search bar.

2) Using google search bar

Similar to the above case we'll use search operators to tell google that we want to find this exact username on reddit. When google does that, it automatically starts showing their 'hidden' posts.

Here's what you need to type

site:www.reddit.com intext:USERNAME

or
site:www.reddit.com intext:u/USERNAME
or

inurl:www.reddit.com intext:USERNAME

or

site:www.reddit.com intext:"USERNAME"

Here we first define the website we want to search the key word in and then the key word itself, that being the username in this case. You should now see a bunch of the posts and comments from that username.

This is all I have to share.

I hope this guide helps someone filter out weirdos and creeps.

To all the women out their, please take care and learn to use these things. They are very easy. It just looks complicated but you'll be able to save yourself from a lot of potential harm.

Just a reminder that the method above is not 100% reliable. Sometimes you might just not get anything but it's rare. Most of the times, you should be able to see the posts.

Married Life Sexual Desire | Always face denying from wife

Salam Everyone!

I'm tired of thinking that is it my fault or something is wrong on my wife's side?

So we have been Nikkahfied for 2 years but not married yet according to Pakistani culture. We talk daily, discuss everything about family, the world, our daily life but whenever I try to discuss our sexual life, she starts pretending to have some issues like the battery is low, she's not feeling well etc to avoid such discussion. I completely believe the phrase "no means no" but in these 2 years she never asked me to have some romance and not even talk about it. I'm 25 and she's 22 so is it normal before formal marriage? Or am I being fooled?

We both are studying in different cities so we meet once in almost 3 months.

Middle East 26M | Bahrain | Looking for Marriage

Salam everyone!
I’m a 26-year-old Bahraini guy, 176 cm tall with a slim build. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and currently work in the maintenance field.

A little about me: I’m a pretty chill and easygoing person who enjoys having fun and trying new things. I love traveling, exploring new places, and outdoor activities. Some of my interests include dirt biking, swimming, Muay Thai, and recently surfing.

I like to enjoy life and have new experiences, but I’m also responsible and take my work and future seriously. I’m naturally a curious person who enjoys learning.

What I’m looking for:
Someone around my age (a little older or a few years younger is fine), who’s open-minded, positive, easygoing, and enjoys life. It would be nice to be with someone who’s open to trying new things and sharing experiences together.

Religion-wise, I’m looking for someone who has a balanced approach to Islam, maintains the main obligations like praying and fasting, and values religion without being overly strict. I also appreciate someone who’s educated, has her own goals, and is working towards something in life.

My thoughts on marriage:
I believe marriage is a big decision, and both people should take enough time to get to know each other before committing. For me, compatibility goes beyond having similar hobbies or interests. It’s more about sharing important values and being on the same page about things like religion, family, children, and future goals.

I’m based in Bahrain, but we can discuss the relocation if things work out.

If you feel we might be compatible, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to get to know you!

Discussion Let's have a healthy discussion.

Aight peeps, let's have some fun.

So, let's assume you talk to someone, you get along, vibe and all's well... The caveat?

Dhum dhum dhuuuuuuuum

They live in another country!

So the question is would you move to another country for a Rishta you met online (could be anywhere)?

  1. Yes - Why?

  2. No - Why Not?

2.a. Is it an absolute no?

2.b. If its not absolute, then what would it take for you to move?

This question is for both genders.

Question - Help What Steps Are You Taking To Prepare For Marriage Spiritually Emotionally, Physically and Mentally?

Salam, I’ve just joined Reddit again as I’ve been going in circles for the past 2/3 weeks. If it’s possible, can I get some opinions on how you guys are preparing for marriage and what’s steps are you guys taking?

As much as I love marriage, love having kids, love being surrounded by my own family (not siblings and parents), I’ve been having some serious 2nd thoughts about getting married due to some personal issues going on in real life.

I still want to do my best to become a better husband, partner, father, role model, leader regardless if I get married or not. So please don’t hold out on me about any resources and advice. Thanks

Middle East 48 hours post

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I would generally prefer to meet someone through social settings such as lectures, communities, or workshops. That’s why I’ll only leave this post up for two days—to give myself a chance to try, even though I’m pretty sure Reddit won’t lead to anything meaningful

I’m a very independent person. I traveled abroad alone for my bachelor, and after graduating, I traveled several times to countries I had never visited before, on my own. I enjoy learning, trying new things, and developing different skills. I'm an ambivert, well spoken and appreciate the simple things in life. I also take time to think things through before making any decisions.

Being independent doesn’t mean I am willing to carry someone elses’ responsibilities. I’ve been through a lot of pressure in my life, and I’m not looking for someone to carry it all for me. I simply hope to have someone in my life who contributes to it, makes life feel easier and lighter, and helps me feel that I can trust him enough to let him take on his role as a man.

I’m 34 and have never been married. I’m a veiled Kuwaiti Shia Muslim. I’m pretty active, working out three to four times a week, but my build is neither muscular nor lean. I’m about 158 cm tall and weigh 78 kg, with a light-medium skin tone.

I’m looking for a husband whose relationship with me is built on a deep-rooted friendship—where both of us can be ourselves because we feel safe and supported by one another. I’m looking for someone who knows how to communicate and discuss things when they get heated, messy or in disagreement; someone who is actively working on himself emotionally and physically, and is able to get married and live independently.

Basic requirements:

Nationality: Kuwaiti
Religion: Muslim, not conservative or judgmental, and doesn’t impose his beliefs on others. However, it matters to him that his personal choices and decisions are halal.
Age: 32–39
Marital status: Single, or divorced with no children
Smoking: Non-smoker only
Work: Employed or self-employed. You don’t need to be in the best financial position, but you should have goals and be capable of getting married and living independently without relying on your family.
Appearance: Light-to-medium skin complexion, has hair, at least 168 cm tall, and a proportionate weight. You do not need to be muscular, but I am looking for someone who is neither thin nor puffed bulky or overweight.

I’d rather remain single than marry the wrong person, so please don’t approach me assuming I’m desperate. If you don’t meet the preferences listed above, please don’t waste either of our time.

If you feel you could add something positive to my life, we share things in common, and genuinely ready for a serious connection, you have the next two days to message me privately

Discussion Iraqi Shia parents strongly oppose me marrying a French Shia revert - how should I handle this?

Salam everyone. I’m looking for advice, particularly from Iraqi Shias, people in intercultural marriages, reverts, or anyone who has dealt with serious parental opposition to marriage.

I’m an adult Iraqi Shia man. Both of my parents are practicing Shia and follow Sayyid al-Sistani. They have always expected me to marry an Iraqi Shia woman.

I have been seriously getting to know a French Shia revert for marriage. She is practicing for 7 years, wears full hijab, takes her religion seriously, does ziyarat every year to iran or iraq, and we are very compatible in religion, character, values, marriage, and what we want for our future children. She actually encourages me to learn more about Islam and deepen my own religious understanding.

I have spent considerable time thinking about this and I believe she could be a very good wife and mother. I have told my parents that I am not asking them to blindly approve of her - I have repeatedly asked them simply to meet her, speak to her, and judge the actual person.

They refuse.

Their objections basically come down to two main ideas.

First, they believe that people inevitably “go back to their roots.” Because she grew up French in a secular family, they believe that eventually her original culture and family background will become stronger and influence her and our children, regardless of how committed she is to Shi‘ism now.

Second, they believe an Iraqi will naturally always be more compatible with another Iraqi. They say children mainly follow their mother because she spends more time raising them, so unless their mother is Iraqi, my children will never properly love Iraqi culture or identify strongly with Iraq.

They are also concerned about things such as her secular relatives, drinking, Western attitudes, etc.

My response has been that I understand these are things that need to be discussed seriously. I’m not pretending cultural differences don’t exist. But I am Iraqi myself, my children would have an Iraqi father and Iraqi grandparents, and I intend to teach them Arabic, take them to Iraq, keep them close to my family, and give them a strong Iraqi and Shia identity. She is supportive of raising the children Shia and keeping them connected to my background.

What I struggle with is that my parents are making predictions about what she will eventually become without being willing to even speak to her.

I recently told them that I love them and want them deeply involved in my future family, but after listening to them, speaking to relatives and seeking advice, I have decided to continue pursuing this relationship toward marriage. If everything continues to be right between us, marriage could happen within the next several months.

Their reaction was extremely intense. My mother became very distressed, cursed the decision and prayed that terrible things would happen to me, and my father told me I had brought him enormous shame and that I would never find happiness.

A major argument from my family now is that a Muslim should not cause this level of distress to his parents and that parental approval is an important part of marriage. I absolutely care about their blessing and do not want to hurt them. At the same time, I have spent months asking them for one thing: give her a chance and assess her as an individual. They still refuse because they believe there is no point once she is not Iraqi.

I’m now trying to work out what the right next step is. I don’t want to cut my parents off or turn this into “her versus them.” I want both her and my parents in my life. But I also don’t know whether it is reasonable to give up a woman I believe is genuinely suitable for marriage when the fundamental objection remains her ethnicity and upbringing.

For those who have been through something similar:

  • Did your parents eventually come around? What actually changed their minds?
  • How did intercultural marriage affect your children and their connection to both cultures?
  • For reverts/intercultural couples, did the fear that someone would eventually “return to their roots” actually materialise?
  • How would you balance serious parental distress with making your own marriage decision?
  • Is there anything in my parents’ concerns that you think I am underestimating?
  • Am I doing anything haram? I have tried to include them in this decision but I feel they are being unfair to my potential wife and I don't value their blessing while they do this.

I’m particularly interested in thoughtful answers from people with actual experience, even if you disagree with me.

I am in a bit of a rush as I have to move to a new job this new year.

US/Canada Male 25

Salam everyone,
I became a Shia for almost 2 years now and ever since I came here to Canada I’ve been struggling to get settled in and I really appreciate it if someone can put me in the right direction.
I’m a 25 year old Jordanian living in Toronto, Canada. I’m looking to meet someone with the intention of marriage, but I also believe that a good marriage starts with genuinely getting to know each other and building a friendship and connection first.
I’m someone who is pretty family-oriented, ambitious, and always trying to improve myself. I work in restaurant management, enjoy going to the gym, taking care of myself, going out for good food, driving around and exploring new places, and having meaningful conversations. I’m also into reading,, and I appreciate the simple things like a good coffee, a nice dinner, or spending time with someone I’m comfortable around.
What I’m looking for
I’m hoping to meet a woman who is educated, intelligent, kind, emotionally mature, loyal, and family-oriented. Attraction is important to me, but personality and character matter just as much. I want someone who can eventually be my best friend, someone I can laugh with, grow with, support, and build a life with.
Religiously, I’m Shia and the Ahlulbayt are very important to me. I’m looking for someone who takes her faith seriously and wants Islam to be part of her future family, while also understanding that everyone’s journey and level of practice can be different.
I would preferably like to meet a Lebanese Shia woman, mainly because I feel there can be a natural cultural connection and understanding there. That said, I’m not limiting myself strictly by nationality. Character, compatibility, and the connection between two people matter more to me.
Things I value:
• Loyalty and honesty
• Family and faith
• Emotional maturity
• Good communication
• Ambition and personal growth
• Modesty and self-respect
• Being able to laugh and have fun together
• Building something together rather than expecting everything to be perfect from day one
Things that don’t work for me:
• Dishonesty or playing games
• Poor communication
• Excessive drama
• Someone who isn’t serious about marriage
• Disrespect toward family or faith
• Relationships where one person is putting in all the effort
I’m not looking to rush into marriage just for the sake of being married. I want to meet someone where there is genuine compatibility, attraction, friendship, and a shared desire to build a future together.
If you think we might be compatible, feel free to message me. 🙂

US/Canada 40F Iraqi - Toronto, Canada

Salam everyone,

Bismillah

I finally gained the courage to make a Reddit account to post on the Matchmaking Event but turns out my account is too new to send a DM to the mods. Inshallah I will build enough karma in the meantime :)

I’m going to keep this post concise and to the point. Please DM me if you’re an Arab Shia man and if you live within the Greater Toronto Area, or at least a doable driving distance away. That way, we can meet in person and have a better sense of compatibility.

I’ve noticed that most people include very detailed descriptions in their posts but I’ve chosen not to do that because I prefer to have that with someone who fits my preferences (age, ethnicity, location).

Age: 40F
Origin/Ethnicity: Iraqi
Languages: fluent in both English and Arabic
Level of religious practice: moderate Shia
Hijabi: Yes
Current residence: Toronto, Canada
Willing to relocate: yes, within the Greater Toronto Area or Ontario
Siblings: 1 younger brother
Previously married/Kids: divorced, no kids (I’m open to discussing the reasons for my divorce with a suitable match)
Occupation: Teacher
Education: Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
Height, weight, 164 cm, 60 kg
Smokes/Vapes/Hookah: No to all
Leisure activities: anything active, reading, painting, being outdoors

Your Preferences in a Partner:
Age range: 36-47
Origin/Ethnicity: Arab
Languages: English and Arabic
Level of religious practice: moderate Shia
Education: at least a Bachelor’s degree, preferably earned in Canada
Physical Preferences: has a well-groomed beard
Deal breakers: living with in-laws, not financially stable, not active
Additional Information: I’m not a fan of getting to know someone online or of long distance relationships, so I prefer someone will lives within a driving distance to Toronto. There’s a lot more I’d like to share about myself and my preferences, but I don’t feel comfortable sharing that publicly.

I wish everyone the best in their journey of finding a spouse! Alhamdullah this subreddit community exists. I’ve noticed that everyone, men and women, are very respectful and supportive to each other. My sincerest and heartfelt duas goes out to all of you.

Question - Help Living Separately from In Laws- Unrealistic?

Salam everybody.
I’m 28F and I mention the age because according to Desi mentality, I’m already nearing the expiration date for being a good rishta (absurd I know).
One of my dealbreakers is somebody who wants to live with in laws after marriage.
I think that the perception about my dealbreaker is I wouldn’t be a kind daughter in law and I wouldn’t want to interact with my husbands family. That’s not the case. I pray for good in laws so that hopefully I can have an extra set of parents to lean on for support and love.
But the way my personality is, I NEED to have my own space. Especially after marriage. I want me and my husband to have privacy to get to know each other and so that way we can determine how things should be. When more than the couple lives in the house, everybody gets a say in matters and I feel like responsibilities increase for the couple.
I have yet to see an example of a woman who lives with her in laws and she does not feel stifled.
My search is already unsuccessful but I worry this dealbreaker will just lead to more rejections. Is this too unrealistic of a dealbreaker? Am I being too harsh?

Australia/NZ 35 F Sydney: Seeking a husband to join me in my running and carb loading-fuelled adventures, and you know, just doing life in general 💁🏽‍♀️

Hey Reddit. Made a new account. Hoping something good comes from it inshallah 🙏🏽

A little about me: I'm a 35-year-old Lebanese woman living in Sydney, working as a graphic designer and genuinely happy in my role. I'm bubbly and warm with a witty, thoughtful side that shows up over good coffee or deep chats. Mostly introverted but can flip to extraverted when it feels right. I'm an ISFP personality type

I'm into running (completed my first marathon this year), cooking from scratch, hosting potlucks, comedy shows, true crime binges, photography, the outdoors, and exploring cafes around Sydney. I value authentic connections, emotional intelligence, and kindness. I consider myself to be a highly social person.

Faith and background: I'm divorced with no kids. I've processed that and ready to let someone new into my life. Would love a family of my own one day. I'm a practicing Shia Twelver Muslim. I pray, fast, eat halal, read the Quran, and generally try my best. I'd like my partner to be practicing too, with something similar in his routine. I'm not a hijabi but I do intend to put on the scarf when ready, and I dress modestly.

Lifestyle: I don't smoke, do drugs, or drink alcohol, and I expect the same from my partner. I also have a super active lifestyle. I'm always on the go but I really do value quiet moments and seek them out when possible.

What I look like: Lebanese, tanned but on the lighter side, with dark brown hair and eyes. I'm 165 cm, around 90kg, extremely active, and currently losing weight. No tattoos, only ears pierced.

What I'm seeking: A husband who is in Sydney only (sorry, no long-distance). I'm after someone kind, curious, emotionally aware, and up for both deep conversations and light-hearted ones. I don't expect you to be a sheikh, but I do expect you to be practicing. You have your own hobbies and interests and you're open to someone new coming into your life. I really value being active and I'd really like you to already have that in your lifestyle. If you also love running that's a double win! 😁. You have a stable job. Age range is flexible, about 5 years older or younger. Your maturity is what's important. I don't mind if you're divorced, and you've processed that because I have with mine, but I'm hesitant if you already have kids. Not sure what that looks like for me

Family and timeline: I'm a strong believer that good things take time and I'd like to take the time for us to get to know each other and if our values align we can get families involved. I have a good relationship with my family and would hope the same of you. I'd be looking to have kids in the next couple of years

Hoping that gives a good insight into me. If you're going to DM, please tell me about yourself

All the best for everyone looking 🙏🏽

Pakistan Looking for my 27F Cousin Sister - Canada/Pakistan (Flexible globally)

Salam all, and Bismillah e Rehmaan e Raheem. I am looking for a match for my very beautiful and brilliant cousin sister, MashaAllah. she gets very overwhelmed when she posts herself or is approached by people herself, so I have taken the role of doing the filtering for her and connecting her hahaha (things sisters have to do). Here are her details:

  1. Relationship status: never married and never engaged
  2. Age: 27
  3. Caste: Syed (Jaffery)
  4. Education: Bachelors in Economics and International Development from one of the top schools in the world, Masters in International Economics and Finance from one of the top schools in Canada (MashaAllah very brilliant academically)
  5. Profession: currently she works as both a lecturer and consultant. She is very ambitious and very responsible, financially and otherwise, MashaAllah.
  6. Height: 5’4
  7. Current location: Lahore, Pakistan. but she has lived in Canada for over 7 years and has status there.
  8. Parents’ details: business-based
  9. Siblings: she has one school-going brother, but hey I’m her sibling too 🤭
  10. interests/hobbies: travelling, reading, baking, VERY good host, everyone loves her, MashaAllah.

Note: she was raised in a sect neutral way - there’s both Shiaism and Sunnism in her family, but she leans towards certain values a lot stronger: love for Ahlul Bayt, and the significance of the battle of Karbala - she hopes to see those values in her partner too.

looking for:

  1. Age bracket: 27-37
  2. Deal breakers: arrogance, no respect for elders/staff etc, lack of any religious values (atheist/agnostic people, might not be the match for you). No second wife requests please. don’t reach out if you’re already married.
  3. career: doesn’t matter what exactly but drive/ambition do matter
  4. Education: at least bachelors
  5. Caste: doesn’t matter
  6. sect: any as long as you only pray to Allah and hold respect and love for the Ahlul Bayt in your heart.

if you’re interested please feel free to send an introduction in my DM. I’ll have an initial conversation and redirect to her if there’s alignment. if you do reach out, please ensure you send your details in the DM so it doesn’t waste your and my time. JazakAllah may Allah make it easy for all, Ameen.

Discussion Aside from making a profile on this subreddit, what is some advice you’d give someone looking to get married?

Salam everyone, I’m 25f Pakistani in background but born and raised in Toronto, Canada and I’ve decided to take my marriage journey more seriously.

I am from a family of just sisters so meeting people has been extremely difficult for me because I don’t interact with men very often. I also have a very close knit community from my Imambargah and while I love everyone there, there’s no one Im interested in for marriage. I also don’t have much help from my family because while they mean well, they don’t fully understand what I’m looking for so they’ve left the search to me :D

But as someone who is Shia, this search has been really hard. I struggle to vet who is Shia or Sunni and most matchmaking events in person are Sunni dominated.

So for anyone that’s married in this sub or anyone really, I’d love to hear your advice!
