This post has been flaired as “Opinion”. Do not use this flair to vent, but to open up a venue for polite discussions.

Suggestions For Commenters:

  • Respect OP's opinion, or agree to disagree politely.
  • If OP's post is against subreddit rules, don't comment, just report it.
  • Upvote other relevant comments in the comment section, and don't downvote comments you disagree with

Suggestions For u/Infinite_Alps_2573:

  • Loaded questions and statements can get people riled up. Your post should open up a venue for discussion, not a "political vent" so to speak.
  • Avoid being inflammatory in your replies. When faced with someone else's opinion, be open-minded and ask new, honest questions.
  • Your post still have to respect subreddit rules.

Because in an overwhelming number of cases they're also romantically or sexually lonely, and when they make a friend they're likely to turn the conversation to romantic or sexual topics, or to be biased towards people who fit those criteria.

“NPC move”

There it is. The inevitable 4Chan chronic-online buzz words. They betray you, as does an extensive comment history arguing in favor of Generative AI across multiple subs.

In the future just be honest. AI bot writing has a very particular cadence and rhythm. Your last comment was clearly a regurgitated and tweaked ChatGPT response.

Metrics to measure progress in a society include GDP per capita, equal access to opportunities not including the outcomes of them eventhough we as a society should do our best to support them and make sure they succeed, public safety, and healthcare

Safe to say. There is no one variable that you can measure and immediately say “we have progressed as a society” in any meaningful way

It’s certainly a metric you could use. I don’t know if it would be useful as the definitive metric for all cultures, unless that’s just your own personal focus. There are a handful of matriarchal societies in the world, this metric would do little to hold them to account for whatever other issues they may have.

The difference with your gun owner analogy, is that people don't need to own guns but people do need mental support.

And I wrote out that response myself. I always write everything myself.

Saying something you disagree with is written by chatgpt to avoid addressing its point is such an NPC move.

This is a good metric to use in developing countries. However, it loses effectivenes when used in industrial countries. Comparing for example Norway and Switzerland using this mehtod would be counterproductive. We already have useful models available other than the GDP; the doughnut model for example.

The average gun owner doesn’t shoot up schools yet we still have school shootings every week in the United States.

Nice of ChatGPT to both write out that response for you and send you a link I support of its “superiority” over human therapists.

Just ghastly.

We humans love to think of ourselves as these great, wise, and intelligent beings. Yet it's moments like these that remind us we're not really all that different from other animals after all.

People tend to maximize their potentials, and because they are socially more interested in having the opposite gender in their lives and see more benefits to them in it, then its more meaningful for them, and considering that some of them dont want low effort communication, then because of the energy they expect themselves to use, then they prefer ignoring the identical gender as a way to save themselves from high risk low reward outcome when they consider the higher reward potential.

You shouldn't take AI psychosis stories on the news as representative of the average experience.

Lots of people use chatgpt to talk about their personal issues. And it can in fact help, as long as you remember you were talking to a machine and remember its limitations.

Yeah, I think you make a good point. A lot of guys might be looking for more than just friendship, even if they don't say it directly. And women might feel more comfortable responding to other women. I hadn't really thought about it that way, but it makes sense.

So, the yardstick of progress is not equality, but just women.

Which means progress is just shorthand for progress to a matriarchy, the point in which it is literally impossible for women to get more opportunities, more representation and better outcomes.

Women on those subs are more likely to answer posts from other women for one, and for two a lot of guys subconsciously (or just straight up of course lol) want a female connection rather than a male, some might have a motive of creating romance from friendship

Personally, all the friends i interact with online i have met in fleshspace before. I don't understand online only friends, they have a veneer of not being real.

When i interact online with my fleshspace friends, i imagine them being with me in fleshspace. And online only people are just abstracts. In my mind there isn't a person connected to the online avatar unless i have interacted with them irl.

Saudi Arabia is an extremely prosperous country but treats women horribly. Some Native American tribes in my state are very poor but treat women better. I don't think that prosperity is as important as you say that it is.

Yeah, I've noticed this quite a lot too, especially in communities for making online friends. Posts from girls saying they're looking for friends often get tons of upvotes and comments, while similar posts from guys tend to get almost no attention.

What's interesting is that I've noticed this in myself too. For some reason, whenever I see a post from a girl looking for friends, it catches my attention more, and I find that a bit strange even about myself.

Maybe it has something to do with the gender ratio of Reddit users. But I also wonder if there's something deeper behind it. Could it be influenced by the way our society and culture have shaped us, or perhaps even by some of our natural human tendencies? Edit: Just like how, among countless flowers, we tend to notice the brightest one

I really agree with you!

I wonder if some of that exhaustion comes from having a strong sense of empathy and responsibility. Maybe you’ve spent so much energy trying to understand and care for others that you’ve ended up neglecting yourself.

Sometimes we need to allow ourselves to be a little selfish, in a good way. We can’t be responsible for everyone’s feelings, and adults do need to communicate their own needs.

Taking care of yourself first doesn’t mean you care any less about others. It simply means you’ll have more energy to help when someone really needs you.

So I think your decision makes a lot of sense. ❤️

Hypervigilance has exhausted me so much (especially when my mind reading was wrong and made things worse) that i started to trust that the person will tell me if something is bothering them. I put the ball in their court. Don't expect me to read your mind, you are no longer a small child that is non-verbal. It is your responsibility to tell if something is bothering your. It is part of growing up.

That’s…not healthy. Also the gateway to every “teenage AI psychosis” story that’s made the news lately.

I tend to talk to my inner voice or fictional characters in my head.

I don't see a point about talking to people about worries that they can do nothing about. From my experience they then start to worry too and not i have to soother their worries in addition to mine.

Material possessions. After losing all of my stuff due to a few unfortunate circumstances and being homeless for awhile and sustaining myself on almost nothing I realized that I need very little to be comfortable and satisfied with what I have. It also taught me gratitude. All this stuff we think is important is just stuff, and it should not affect our psychological well-being so much. I feel like I was freed in a way from my own mind that was trying to tell me to get more stuff before. Now I don't want to clutter my life with it anymore.
