Discussion NY-17 is polling as a coin flip, and I genuinely don't understand how.

I know polls aren't a sure thing, and I have very little faith in them after 2024, but I can't understand how they're saying that the House race is a coin flip right now.

Even if you're a "traditional" conservative who cares about things like fiscal "responsibility", show me how Republicans have done anything in that vein. They're demanding OVER A TRILLION DOLLARS for the military budget, cutting social programs, raising healthcare costs, and letting Trump's unilateral tariffs raise all our costs. He's had eight chances to block Trump's tariffs, six chances to invoke oversight powers to stop Trump's unlawful war with Iran, and his party created Trump's SALT cap in 2017 to fund tax breaks for huge companies. Now he's promising to beg Trump to raise the cap that his own party put in place to begin with, and what, he thinks that's something to run on? He slapped us in the face and is trying to sell us an ice pack at a hugely inflated price.

Lawler's a Trump rubber stamp, and I'm sick of this "bipartisan" myth he keeps pushing. Anybody who's paying attention knows that congress members get a Hall Pass to dissent on procedural or inconsequential votes. But when the chips are down and it actually counts? He falls in line with the party every single time.

And when Trump says something insane - like leakers should be shot, and then gestures to the press pool saying they're "kind of like leakers"—just the LATEST in his unhinged behavior—what does he do when people ask genuine questions of how he feels about it? Dismisses it as "Orange Man Bad" and moves on. He's not fighting for us and he isn't going to start if we vote him back in.

Meanwhile, we get a genuinely good candidate in Cait Conley with a history of service and support for, you know, NORMAL policies that will actually HELP people in her district, and she's not beating the pants off Lawler in the polls?

Conley is such a strong opponent against Lawler that they don't have any legitimate subjects to attack her on. Now they're claiming she's a "socialist". How stupid do they think we are? A West Point graduate with a long service record and a history in counter-terrorism and election security suddenly wants to come for your wallet?

What makes it so ridiculous is the sheer hypocrisy: if you want actual examples of overt state control, look at the White House. Trump came to Intel's rescue in exchange for the federal government taking a direct 10% equity stake in the company (something he openly bragged about), and he dictates trade by executive decree without Congress. That kind of state-run capitalism and central planning looks a lot more like the Chinese Communist Party than anything Conley has ever advocated. And with Trump constantly running cover for Putin and cozying up to Beijing, the GOP's scaremongering about "Communism" doesn't mean shit.

I think Cait Conley is a great candidate. I believe she's going to fight to get things back on the right track. I understand that Conley doesn't check every single box for everyone. There are people who think she isn't progressive enough. But your vote isn’t a personal marriage or a 100% philosophical endorsement. It’s a tool. You aren’t asking “does this person align with me on every single thing?” You’re asking: “who is actually going to fight for the issues I care about and move the needle in the right direction?” Even if Conley wasn't your dream candidate in a vacuum, she is THE Democrat on the ballot right now, and this is an all-hands-on-deck moment to break up this rubber-stamp majority. Anything less is ceding power back to authoritarians.

Unless you want to continue to empower the White House to act with impunity and make life harder for all of us, I feel like it's a glaringly-obvious choice: vote Cait Conley in, vote out Mike Lawler.

Of all of Mike Lawler’s fact-twisting, his tax talk is getting the attention.  Good, because the SALT-cap is meaningless with the cuts in basic services that the New York taxpayers can’t backfill,   the tariffs-trade-health-childcare, makes the $90 check an insult.  (Cost me $70 to fill my tank.)  All the focus is on seniors with fixed income but I’m most worried about young people.

IT’S A FACT that Dems. hold the line on middle-class taxes, Not the Republicans.   Don’t believe me? Well, factcheck it, go to your town site > Your Government > Finance > Statements. … and a reminder that there was a pandemic  from 2020 to 2023.

For my town, as example

TAXES in 2018: +2.30%, 2019: +1.96%, 2020: +1.98%, 2021: +1.97%, 2022: +3.50%, 2023: +2.92%, 2024: 2.40%, 2025: +2.04% (Below state cap. Long-time residents know that was not the case in prior years)

FUNDS (unassigned) 2017: $456K, 2018: $680K, 2019: $886K, 2020: $688K, 2021: $718K, 2022: $975K, 2023: $785K, 2024: $1.053K,

What about services?   Walk down Westchester Avenue and decide for yourself whether the streets, park and community are in good shape. Have you used services recently? What was that like? And long-time residents, before it was Dem. Will tell you how it was.

You are paying for the ballroom, wars and all of it that Lawler supports,   It’s not free.

Politics Lawler denies voting 100% with Trump but he's ok with voting 94% with Trump!

As I've said before if you like Trump then you must vote for Lawler. Of course if you think Trump is ruining this country, as I do, then maybe you want to vote for Conley unless you are ok with that 6% difference between Lawler and Trump!

George Hoehmann's money problems started before he ever became Supervisor. The last organization he ran, the Rockland Independent Living Center, lost money four years straight and ended up owing more than it owned, according to its own IRS filings.

Now look at Clarkstown. Town debt has climbed past $151 million, and the town borrowed another $8 million this month. On top of that, Clarkstown owes more than $250 million in retiree health and pension costs, with nothing set aside for the $208 million in retiree health benefits. Even S&P says the town's reserves fall short of its own policy.

Don't be fooled by the bond ratings and the "0% tax increase" headlines. Borrowing today is your tax bill tomorrow. And he's selling off most of the Rockland Country Day School campus, bought with borrowed money and wasted over a $1 million on surveying and demolishing the asbestos ridden buildings, to developers for multi-million dollar mansions.

When he's gone, Clarkstown taxpayers will be left holding the bag.

Politics Lawler worked dozen days since July “Attendance is an issue.” Scott (R-GA)

Lawler has done nothing to deserve your vote. No legislation by him passed. Fact check that on Congress(dot)gov.. “Attendance is an issue right now,” Representative Austin Scott (R-GA) told the press yesterday. Mike Lawler worked one week days in August. He worked four days last month and plans zero days this month. Meanwhile. Our country is at war, White House is dropping sanctions on Russia, Trump family is making private business deals with Putin’s inner circle. Trump’s DOJ is raiding the homes of legislators the people elected. An industry newsletter posted yesterday “Absolutely stunning price spikes in wholesale diesel today.” and trump posted on Truth Social two videos yesterday of tigers attacking people.

Recommendations Parking lot for motorcycle practice.

Odd question to pose here but I’m just looking for a parking lot to hone in some skills on a mini moto and I’m finding it a lot harder than I thought. I’m not trying to bother anybody, not trying to do wheelies or make excessive noise. I’m just trying to lay down some cones and practice bike control and body positioning. I’m not showing up during business hours in crowded lots or anything silly but I can’t seem to find a spot where a security guard doesn’t ask me to leave. (And I promptly do so) Any fellow riders out there know a good spot to just practice where I’m not bothering the neighborhood and I won’t be asked to leave? The closer to Orangeburg the better.

Miscellaneous Experienced Furniture Movers Needed – Oct 15

TWO EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL MOVERS NEEDED – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 – AIRMONT, NY
$35 PER PERSON PER HOUR – ADDITIONAL WORK AVAILABLE
I’m looking for two strong, reliable individuals with actual professional furniture-moving experience, preferably current or former employees of moving companies.
I literally just arrived in New York after driving all the way from Tucson, Arizona, with my three dogs to help my elderly, disabled mother prepare for her return home.
First, a little request: Please don’t judge my mom by the photographs! ❤️ She’s been living with significant physical limitations for many years, and keeping up with everything has become increasingly difficult. I’m now working on getting her home safe, comfortable, and accessible again.
THURSDAY’S JOB – MASTER BEDROOM ONLY:
Remove a king-size bed, mattress, and box spring for Friday morning’s bulk trash pickup.
Carefully relocate a very large, heavy wooden dresser, a tall cabinet, nightstands, and other bedroom furniture into the living room for temporary storage.
Remove and replace dresser drawers as needed to make the furniture safer and easier to move.
Possibly move a few additional pieces of old furniture from the porch to the curb, time permitting.
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Everything stays on the SAME FLOOR. Absolutely no stairs!
Furniture must travel down a hallway to reach the living room.
The hallway has bifold doors that may need to be temporarily removed and reinstalled.
There is also a swing-open metal gate near the living room.
No truck is needed.
Appropriate moving equipment and experience handling large, heavy wooden furniture are essential.
I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEARING THE TOPS OF ALL FURNITURE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. You will not be expected to sort, organize, or pack personal belongings.
PAY: $35 PER PERSON PER HOUR.
Approximately 2–4 hours of work, with a three-hour minimum. Any additional time will be discussed and approved in advance.
AND THERE’S MORE WORK COMING!
This is just the first phase of a much larger project. Over the next several weeks, I’ll need additional help relocating furniture, rearranging bedrooms, stacking existing bunk beds, and preparing other areas of the house for accessibility renovations.
I’d love to find two dependable, experienced movers I can call back for additional paid work rather than starting over with new people each time.
Please message me with your availability, professional moving experience, and whether you have access to appropriate moving equipment.
Thank you! ❤️

Politics I'm running for Clarkstown Supervisor and I'm refusing campaign money from anyone who does business with the Town

Post image
56 Upvotes

I'm Eugene Bondar, the Democratic candidate for Clarkstown Town Supervisor. I've signed a pledge: as Supervisor, I won't accept campaign contributions from developers, engineers, architects, law firms, contractors, or vendors doing business with the Town, or from Town employees.

I haven't taken money from any of them during this campaign, and my campaign finance filings are public with the NYS Board of Elections, so anyone can check.

I think the people seeking Town contracts and approvals shouldn't be funding the officials who decide them. Happy to answer questions about the pledge or anything else about the race.

Discussion Cait Conley: The “Socialist’s Choice” Ads

This is a serious question and I’ve been seeing these commercials for a few weeks now and I really can’t figure it out.

Is the “Cait Conley, the Socialist’s Choice” advertisement actually a serious ad put on by her campaign? Or is it a very sarcastic mud sling from the Lawler campaign. I really can’t figure it out.

The idea of the ad is basically if you like AOC and you like Mamdani, then you’ll like Cait Conley. But the visuals of AOC and Mamdani are very unflattering (she’s got her crazy eyes screaming into the mic look, and Mamdani is wearing his keffiyeh while giving a speech).

Now I understand how some might relate positively to those visuals, and if those are the target audience of the ad then all well and good.

But, the line that baffles me is “Cait Conley supports raising taxes on families making less than $75,000 per year”. Said completely deadpan seriously with visuals of smiling happy people on screen. This is the part I can’t reconcile. I can’t imagine any candidate, even a Democrat socialist, actually bragging about that part, or even saying it out loud at all.

All of it combined has me believing this is an ad put on by Lawler, but I really, really can’t tell. I can see it both ways.

Politics Hoehmann has had seven years to protect Clarkstown employees from sexual harassment. He failed them.

Thumbnail
rcbizjournal.com

In 2019, a Town employee reported grounds maintenance supervisor Michael Melton for unwanted touching. Under Hoehmann, the response was a harassment course. She says she was retaliated against and never told the outcome.

Now more women have come forward with allegations of unwanted advances, lewd comments, and unwanted touching. One turns down overtime just to stay away from him. The matter has been referred to the District Attorney.

Hoehmann's answer? Melton keeps his job and his $137,263 salary. He's barred from one building. This is absurd!

This is what happens when a Supervisor treats harassment complaints as a paperwork problem. The accused keeps getting chances. The women who report it get retaliation and silence.

Every person who works for this Town deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. There must be zero tolerance for inappropriate remarks and unwanted touching. Public employees, especially those in leadership roles, must be held to a higher standard because professionalism must be shown every day, starting at the top.

I call on Hoehmann to remove Melton from the workplace NOW, pending a truly independent investigation. And tell the public what happened in 2019.

In my administration, there will be zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior of any kind. On November 3, Clarkstown employees can have a Supervisor who protects them.

Question Jobs for an 18-year-old college student?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 18 year old college commuter at Hunter College living here in Rockland County. I commute via Metro-North so the time I can work is super limited thanks to the long commute. I tried Target and some other jobs, but nothing has been a good fit thus far.

I’m curious if any business owners would maybe need any help on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays for a few hours with okay pay? Just need something to help offset my commuting cost and start saving some money.

I’m happy to send my resume to anybody who’s interested in hearing more. Open to anything pretty much.

Thanks!

Politics Dems are focused on affordability, as they should

Post image

— really just restoring basic services, balancing the budget, holding the line taxes, quality of life stuff too..This isn’t socialism.

It’s as American as apple pie. We have to pay uniform and local government.  Tariffs are great if you can afford the kickbacks. One Big Ugly Bill  cost you your healthcare. Mortgages are the highest they’ve been since Trump sparked the covid inflation.   AI which is a bubble is crowding out borrowing, sucking energy and local resources. It’s corrupting your vote.

Lawler is running a negative campaign because there’s no record to run on. Five years and nothing to show. Other gop got some concessions from Trump not Lawler. We need to fully restore State and Local Tax deduction, the way it was before Trump-Lawler. That's all Lawler can boast of. Even infrastructure funding we are now learning is facing fed cuts. fyi, He takes credit for it but it actually was the work of the appropriations committee.
