Mod Release What if Rimworld had security cameras, diplomats, and watchtowers? Surveillance Shift has released! A blockbuster sequel to Perspective Shift.

Does it hide entities? A bit like fog of war in other games that shows only the terrain and nothing else after the first discovery?

I dont see the custom fog setting anywhere for some reason. I have default public version and no dlc, also tried testing it without any other mods in my modlist

stares at binoculars
Any chance to get scopes for sniping rifles and similar long range guns?

u/misterferny 21h ago
Will look into it, sure

I'll give you my firstborn for CE compatibility

Omg if it's CE compatible I would use it for the watchtowers alone already. Finally vantage points for my snipers

In that case then, it would be interesting, others to code not you, if there was a detection system for a scoped weapon and apply binoculars function to it. Though that's definitely outside of scope.

Love the scouting system, needed something like this for a looong time.
The fog looks cool too but if there's no "previously explored" fog then it's gonna probably feel cramped and clumsy real fast... I remember in SC2 that's a whole ass modifier you could roll and it feels a bit like losing a limb or a part of your brain, lol. Makes planning defenses or building structures a big pain.

Wrapping on custom fog settings now (Edit: Out now)

Amazing, i too wanted to see something like old Red Alert, where you had a fog of war completely black where you haven't discovered yet, and a darkened map when you have discovered, but the enemies(or animals) didn't render when you weren't looking at them. I think that would be the greatest here.

there have been a few mods that do this already but they keep getting abandoned. I wish it was vanilla because it makes raids far more interesting.

Oh ya. Lone pawn walk out to get some berries then BANG is down with a headset and their part of the map greys out. Panic mode sets in!!!

I would just like it for weather effects. Anything that reduces shooting accuracy should also decrease visibility. Sandstorms, blizzards, torrential/foggy rain, and others. All should reduce visibility.

Excellent mod. If I could make a couple of suggestions
- Proximity alarms that ping your walkie talkie or something to have a guard investigate or begin monitoring job if no one is currently monitoring
- Review camera footage to reveal last known location. I dunno how that could be implemented but I feel like it could be extremely cool to have when camera angles are limited
- Mood debuff for surveillance with ideological caveats. Otherwise I feel like your best bet is to absolutely flock camera it up
- Limits on how many cameras a surveillance station can view
- This is more of a question, how does this do with mental breaks and prison escapes? It would be cool to find something broken from a mental break and have to judge who was responsible if it wasn’t seen
- Bionic implants for interfacing with surveillance feed and communication
- Something psycast related. Cast all seeing eye and you can see through everyone’s eyes or something. Disturbance in the force when you’re meditating.
If any of these are actually already implemented I apologize, I’m only going off this graphic. Anyway in its current state this mode is complete so thank you once again Ferny for your service
Edit for one more: Mechanoids specifically for surveillance and alerts, or Mechanators get constant visual on what their mechanoids are seeing

All incredible suggestions! I especially love the Psycaster one.
Alarm traps in general would be very cool. Trip wire bell alarms maybe?

Tripflares do exist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripflare
IEDs could also reveal enemies.

I genuinly love the patrol ideas. People who are just there around who only have a good fighting skill no longer become useless on my colony

It seems that mods for the fog of war have a significant impact on TPS.

I've been using CAI + Fog of War alongside Post Office to hide threat letters. I'd love it if instead I could have a fog of war, but have the threat letter only arrive when my colonists actually encounter the raid or infestation or whatever. So this sounds like exactly what I'd been hoping for!
It sounds like that aspect of things only works if you're using Perspective Shift, though? Am I misreading that?

Nice mod but does the binocular of your mod Will conflict with Combat extended binocular ? Or they Will do the same thing ?

Does it really works well without any other mods from Progression, and without perspective shift ?
As anyone tried?

FoV could be expanded to represent people turning their heads. FoV could also change depending on job to represent people looking around or focusing.

Will revealed tiles stay revealed / only getting updated when looked at or go fully dark when not looked at ?

Nice, it's basically the guard+patrol mod, real fog of war mod, and CAI5000's AI+fog of war mod all packed into 1 with some additional features. Probably gonna give this one a try.

Fog system seems neat but how its works without perspective shift? All this communications and so on

u/K4Unl 21h ago
Well.. I know what i'm gonna do this weekend. Just checking, do i need perspective shift too?

Honey...come quick, they put flock in my murder simulator...
Seriously though this looks awesome and looks to have been a ton of work and had so much effort put into it. I'll gladly try this out next time I feel like binging Rimworld for awhile.

as someone with a flare gun mod installed it would be really cool if those could be used as a way to alert threats too

This sounds very interesting for a Metal Gear themed run. I wonder how it would play with World Domination 2.0

Interesting. So it works similarly to the old 1.5 watchtower mods?
Oh and 1.7 compatibility?

This new fog system looks fantastic. And FINALLY, actual raider scouts so it makes sense why they know about my colony and stuff.
