for the record, executing the man in question is not controversial. he was an active military officer who conducted a mass shooting at his place of work. even my leftist ass is like "ok yeah thats probably fucking treason by any reasonable definition".

Executing him is reasonable but yeah the issue is the fact it's a public livestream it's being done on. that's some straight up ISIS/North Korea shit. Plus the fact the crime happened a while ago, all the way back in 2009, and only NOW is this happening.

The guy is an American-born citizen, but he's of Palestinian descent and before he did what he did was extremely vocal about his distaste of the Afghanistan invasion, and likely did it in response to getting the news he was being deployed to Afghanistan (Not that it justifies shooting up anywhere, ofc).

The fact they choose now of all times to do this is pretty damn suspicious timing to me.

Also the fact that I just think firing squads are a terrible and immoral way to execute someone but that's an entirely different issue.

the legal process is slow, and death row stuff is especially slow. honestly a fast execution is more unusual. like the like the boston marathon bombing was in 2013, and they only just officially sentenced the surviving bomber to death in 2025, and he's still awaiting execution.

that said, yeah i personally am fully on board with the idea that this evil bullshit is the product of a certain psychopath death-cultist crusader-larper who is fully aware of the implications and fully intends us to draw these connections.

i'm not sure. most modern execution methods such as electrocution and lethal injection are honestly deeply flawed. if i remember correctly guillotine is actually one of the most humane for the victim, since its so fast and reliable. there's an argument that you may be conscious for a handful of seconds after the fact, but in comparison there's a lot of strong evidence that lethal injection victims are conscious for several minutes and that the paralyzing drugs used only hide the victims distress as opposed to actually prevent pain.

I think its good that sheltered Americans can't hide behind the DoD name - that's the branch of the government that fucking blows up other people. If that's upsetting, then we need to stop bombing other countries, and not just whitewash all of that as "global security" or whatever.

The funny part is that when it comes to 'minimizing suffering' for the executed in addition to minimizing cost, a firing squad..... actually is probably the best? Lethal injection in the US has numerous problems including old, degraded toxins being used which causes it to fail, and it's usually actually several hours when the convict does die. Hanging you have to get perfect. A firing squad like the one Utah does where it's 4 shots of .30-30 from 25ft with a intended target of the heart. Assuming they hit correctly, the shock is great enough to render them fully unconcious almost immediately and suffer from brain death shortly after
