buddy and i were maidening a avante v2 80mm. it caught fire mid air but he somehow got it down for a pretty soft landing. before takeoff mentioned a suspected overcharging of the battery but brushed it off and took off anyways. guys make sure yall do your pre flight checks before takeoff and dont takeoff with a compromised battery.

I kinda got attached to the cheap balsa biplane i cobbled together so i got myself a decent first plane to learn on, a hobbyking yak12

I also got a gyro that i haven't installed yet, i'll probably put it on the biplane tho. i've already flown the yak a couple of times and its really not that hard to controll

Ext-V question

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all

I‘am pretty new to rc planes and have a question regarding external battery voltage connection

My receiver has thIS EXT-V cable with 2 Pins which should connect to the LiPo Battery

My question is is it correct that i can connect my system (ESC) with the XT60 plug and then connect those 2 pins in to the white connector on the outside ? If yes is there an order to plug them (xt60 & 2 pins for XT60) and to plug them out without causing harm to my system and my 6s battery ?

Is 200 grams too heavy for a fuselage?

i am making a 3d printed airplane and printed out all the parts for the fuselage and it came out to 200 grams on the dot before any electronics. If the wingspan is going to be about three feet and the length of the fuselage is a little over 20 inches, would that still fly?

Canadian RC Plane retailers?

I'm looking at getting my partner a beginner RC plane as a gift. I've ready through the beginner's guide to see what might be a good starter, etc., but it looks like the retailers are all American (unless I missed something) and shipping across the border is not the most fun right now, if it's even offered.

Before I commit to doing that, does anyone know any reliable Canadian retailers they could recommend?

Future proofing an ESC

Hey everyone,

I'm currently quite new to the hobby, but for my next purchase in the far future I want to buy like everything futureproofed so I don't have to keep buying new and new stuff that's incrementally better.

I get that for the battery and motor I can't just use the same ones for every plane, but for the other things like the ESC I'm a bit curious. I've been chatting with AI and it seems to be giving me super high recommendations and idk about them.

I eventually want to get into jets with like 70mm diameter EDF as like the "end goal"

It claims modern 6S 70mm EDFs pull 70A–80A+, so a 50A–60A ESC will fry or thermal throttle immediately.

It also says that

5A BEC will cause brownouts I was looking at the Turnigy Plush-32 100A which seems more than good enough, but AI warned its 5.5V/5A SBEC will sag and brown out the receiver when 6–8 servos and other electrics work together. It claims I strictly need an 8A+ BEC or an external UBEC that's good enough.

Any of this true? I just want to buy the best ESC I'll ever need for all projects. Can you guys recommend me some?

EDIT: I should have mentioned, basically for me it's more fun to design the planes. I'm studying aerospace engineering and I enjoy using the knowledge to build cool stuff. I'm fine with taking off once and immediately crashing every plane after flying for 5 minutes. Hence when I start designing a new model I plan to use all the old electronics (even if I have to rip my plane apart to get them). All my parts (excelt for some support) are 3D printed

1/4 Scale Albatros D.Va — Scratch-Built RC Warbird

Post image

My scratch-built Albatros D.Va, made from plans rather than a commercial kit. One of my longer traditional model aircraft projects, with plenty of time spent on the scale details.

I also documented the build on my YouTube channel, AviPlanes, for anyone interested in seeing the process: https://youtu.be/M-njrdR2nY4

My Aeroscout V2 is having a few issues binding to my 2010's DX8 (technical question)

I've done everything I can but it seems to only have one flight mode. It's stuck on intermediate safe mode, as far as I can tell. I went to the club today and spent a good hour with another member trying to figure out exactly what's going on, we bound and rebound the airplane, we checked every option we could in the menu. The only thing we could conclude is that I should enjoy flying it because everything seems to be fine other than not being able to change my flight mode. Any technical advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Start with SIMS

I should have started flying this easy to fly airplane in the SIM first. I crashed it in the gym first time out, it’s in pieces and I’m trying to figure out how to get it back together after ordering rudder, servo horn parts and repairing the elevator (not there yet). Now I’m crashing it at the “athletic club gym” in the SIM 😂

Anyone experienced with the FrSky Act 5400 servos?

Hey all!

I’m looking to build my first 120cc airframe and I’m deciding on servos. I came across the ACT S5415H (FrSky) and I’d love to hear from anyone who has used them, especially on a large gas plane.

On paper they have more torque than the Savox 2290 that Extreme Flight lists as their servo of choice for 100"+ airframes: 874.9 oz-in vs 763.8 oz-in at 7.4V, at a fraction of the cost. Even though I’ve mainly flown Savox and Futaba on smaller planes, I’m leaning toward the ACTs due to price and torque values, but they’re fairly new and don’t have the track record of the established brands.

The good, the bad and the ugly are all welcome. Thanks!

Dont skip Asa aero...

Petg for reference. Same infil and walls.

Obv Asa is weaker here but at ~ 1/3 the weight...i dont think it matters.

If you've seen ramys recent video, the guy he works with uses Asa aero heavily.

Incredible options we have these days...

Going to goop the rear end of the Asa aero for some more strength and the underside. Prob won't gain much more than 15g doing so

the original nano drak fuse was ~200g in the fancy grey foam.
