🎃🎃🎃 Mod post: Halloween costumes are ok by us
Hi all, we usually redirect selfies and fashion posts to other subreddits, but, for the next month or so, Halloween costumes are welcome here if the costume has a punk theme. Shout out to the kid who dressed up as Joey Ramone, we accept you.

Punk music My Big 4...the first albums that got me into punk.
I can remember the exact moment that I bought these on cassette tape in the late 80s. This was the foundation of my lifelong love with punk music, my Mt. Rushmore if you will. Feeling nostalgic, so I'm posting this for you all to read.
Misfits - Legacy Of Brutality: Paid $7.99 using saved lunch money at the age of 14. Bought it because the cover looked ominous. Asked my dad to let me run into the record store on our way home from helping someone move some furniture. Went home and put it on and didn't know what to think of it. A week later it was the soundtrack to the rest of my life.
Dead Kennedys - Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death: Bought at the same store as The Misfits about a month later. Recognized the DK logo from the back of Thrasher Magazine so bought it on a whim. Instantly blown away. Was this psychotic surf music? Jello's voice was so unique and it's still one of my favorite records ever.
D.R.I. - Dealing With It: I already liked some metal by the time I bought my first punk record. When I heard D.R.I.'s Crossover album, it was cool but I didn't love it. Then I bought Dealing With It and was drawn to how it blended those same influences in a cohesive way that was fast and fun. It captured the suburban teenager experience more than my other favorites.
Black Flag - Who's Got The 10 1/2?: My friend told me to buy this one if I wanted to get into Black Flag. And I really wanted to get to know them because that logo was everywhere. I still recommend this as an intro to the band this day. The record is energetic, well-produced, and features some of their best songs in my opinion. And it showed to me that punk can carry a serious message and still be a lot of fun.
So I'm an old guy now, but instead of buying a Ferrari I purchased a boombox and these 4 albums on CD. And I blast them constantly now. Because no matter what I drive or do for a living or what any of those other social markers try to define me as, I'm still a punk rock kid at heart.
Thanks for reading this.

Discussion Getting too old for this shit
I used to be like those kids out there. Moshing and stage diving, and living reckless.
I only just turned 30 like 3 weeks ago and it was like a switch getting flipped. Went to a show, tried to mosh, couldn't keep up and got winded. The drinks upset my stomach, now my back hurts so bad this morning.
What have I become?
Older punks who are still at it, how do you keep the dream alive?
The Lawrence Arms - The First Eviction Notice
Hits way harder than it did back-in-the-day!

Chumbawamba - History Luddite Bootleg (UK, 1985)
This is a cassette bootleg recording of a live Chumbawamba performance from May 30th, 1985 at the Library Theatre in Luton.
The challenge with this one is that it really sounds like a lo-fi cassette bootleg that has been kicking around since the 1980s. That one quibble aside, this is Chumbawamba at their most ferocious and passionate. People who enjoy the Revolution EP and the Pictures of Starving Children LP will find a lot to dig into here, as many of the songs are embryonic forms of things that end up on those records. The band's anti-racist, feminist, and anti-capitalist ethos is all on full display, but it is also joyous in a way that is hard to fully capture in words. For my money, Chumbawamba were the best band in the world on the night that this was recorded.

Discussion Seeing Agnostic Front live in 2026 - worth it?
I've traditionally never been an AF fan. Never liked that style of "tough-guy hardcore", and liked that style's fan base even less. Maybe they were even more of a metal/crossover band then hardcore?
But really only recently did I discover that "United Blood" and "Victim in Pain" are two of the greatest hardcore records ever recorded. Holy shit those records rip...
So, I've seen they've been touring lately. Touring small venues even. Touring with hardcore bands that I like and respect. This seems to suggest that perhaps they are taking a "back to their roots" angle and are worth seeing? Perhaps not. Anyone see them lately and can report back? Extra points if you don't care about anything post-84 like me.
