What to look for in an iPad for drawing
First you can check which iPad supports Procreate [HERE](https://procreate.com/faq)!
If you are completely new, this is good to know:
- Layers:Layers give more control when creating artwork, so having a lot of layers is a huge advantage. It’s a huge pain when you run out of layers. The maximum layer count is determined by two things: Canvas Resolution and RAM. The more RAM your iPad has, the more layers you’ll get to work with. So the more RAM you have, the better.
- Screen Size:Many people, myself included, work more comfortably on a larger iPad screen. On a smaller screen size, you can zoom in on your work but in the end it is what YOU prefer.
- Hard Drive:A larger hard drive means more space to store artwork, fonts, photos, and more.
- Apple Pencil Compatibility:Apple Pencil is bar-none the best stylus you can get for drawing and painting on the iPad. In fact, the Procreate developers specifically designed the app to work best with Apple Pencil. For the best experience drawing in Procreate, be sure you get an iPad that works with the Apple Pencil.
- Processor:One more thing to keep in mind is that newer iPads will have faster processors, which means Procreate will run faster and will be more responsive when using the different tools. There’s even a Procreate feature called face paint that only works on some of the faster processors.
So without knowing anything about iPads, here’s some guidance for what to look for in a device. Get the most RAM and largest screen that your budget will allow, and be sure the iPad is compatible with the Apple Pencil. Having a larger hard drive is great too, so if you have some extra budget, go for it.

Apple pen

Which Apple Pencil should I buy?Which Apple Pencil should you get? Well, it depends on your iPad because the Apple Pencils are not cross-compatible. You have to get the Apple Pencil that works with your iPad, the other one will not work. For a full list of each iPad that works with each Apple Pencil, click [HERE](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211029).
Difference Between Apple Pencil 1 and 2The most significant difference between the two generations of Apple Pencil is the way they charge. With the Gen 1 Pencil, you need to remove a little cap, which is easy to lose, then stick the pencil into the iPad port, which is … awkward. Gen 2 charges seamlessly while magnetically attaching to the side of the iPad. For this reason, it’s harder to lose, and it’s always charged. Additionally, the Gen 2 Pencil has an invisible button that lets you switch between the brush and eraser tools in Procreate. I didn’t really like this feature and kept triggering the button unintentionally, so I turned it off. The Gen 2 Pencil also has a flat edge on one side, so it won’t roll off the desk when you set it down.
All that being said, the Apple Pencil shouldn’t be the deciding factor of what iPad to get, just get the one that works with your iPad.

Procreate Pocket

Does Procreate work on the iPhone?Yes! And no. There is another version of Procreate specifically designed for the iPhone called Procreate Pocket. It’s a separate purchase from Procreate for iPad. It has many of the same capabilities as the iPad app and is great for drawing on the go. If you are interested, check out r/ProcreatePocket!
Does Procreate work on Android OS? No. The Procreate team has stated that they are focusing development solely on iOS.

My Artwork Procreate arts from my own oc’s
I’d like to share with you some of my art I’ve been doing with my iPad Pro of a story I’m developing, so this are just like concepts from the story involving my own original characters.
The story will be about Tori (the girl with glasses and who is the main character, inspired by my wife) and a few of her friends, and everything will be about a type of paranormal creature hunter/investigator from Mexican and Latin American culture, she will be an average high school girl; by pure coincidence she will find herself involved in these adventures. These are images, practicing and detailing my art more and more, and I really like drawing shiny clothing, as you can see 😅.
Feel free to share your opinions, as I hope to complete my comic book one day, and maybe even one day it’s officially published. Let me know what you think and what I can improve on.

I need Procreate technical help Procreate and VN editor animation help needed!!
im trying to animate on procreate and then importing to vn editor to edit but when i import the animation, it gets blurry and kinda fuzzy:(
my canvas is large enough (5050px x 2030px) and im animating at 6fps. when i import still drawings from the canvas, it displays it fine on vn but its just a small portion of a 2 second animation that gets blurry. ive tried turning off the alias thing but its blurry even when i export from vn. strangely the original animation i saved directly from procreate in my camera roll isnt blurry so is vn compressing my animation? please help!! 🙏🙏🥹

My Artwork It's amazing what following a few tutorials can teach you.
Decided to finally try my hand at one of those art tutorial reels that are always coming across my feed, I learned some new things and I'm very pleased with the results.

Constructive feedback and/or tips wanted Colouring in.
I like to colour in and want to transition to digital. I’m really struggling to do this on Procreate.
Usually I just Google X Y Z colouring page and upload it but it just work as colours don’t ‘mix’ they replace as in once colour over another the top colour replaces the bottom layer colour so can shade properly etc.
I know this is a procreate page but does anyone know of any other iPad app I can use to upload images and colour in? Or how I can achieve this on procreate.
Thanks

I need Procreate technical help how old is too old for an ipad to run procreate smoothly?
hey everybody, facing a tough choice here with purchasing an ipad to use it for digital drawing with procreate. i have been working on getting my online art shop back up and running and im needing a way to draw digitally in order to make some of the things that id like to sell. i currently have a screen less drawing pad that hooks up to my computer but i can’t pay to keep a running photoshop subscription to draw digitally so i have to use free drawing programs i find online, and the quality of the work that im able to produce using this method is just not up to par with what i know i can make using the same setup and photoshop or procreate on an ipad. i used to use procreate with an ipad for many years before i eventually sold the device. my primary concern is that i cannot reasonably shell out more than maybe $300 for the whole setup (tablet, pencil, and paper screen protector) — i normally don’t buy any of my electronics new regardless. i’ve been looking at some refurbished ipads online and my dilemma is this:
- 2019-2021 ipads are consistently retailing for $100-$150 which i think is reasonable for my budget (i think i would lean more towards a 2021 model)
- 2022-2024 ipads are consistently retailing for $350-$400
- a brand new ipad is $425
so anything newer than 5-6 years old will run me nearly as much as a brand new device, in which case it would make more sense to just buy a new device that i know will run smoothly for the next few years. but i cannot justify that price tag. however, i have heard people talking about a significant decline in processing power with older models since apple phases out ipad updates every 6 years. and at that point im scared that the older models won’t be able to handle procreate as a program and i’ll run the risk of the device crashing and overheating constantly which will lead me to lose any work that isn’t saved.
does anyone have experience with currently running procreate on a 2021 iPad model or older? do you experience lagging/crashing/overheating? what do you use it for? any suggestions much appreciated! 🙏

I need Procreate technical help I ruined a piece I have spent hours on, and there is no option to undo...
While i had all layers selected, I somehow ended up shrinking the size of the entire piece by a ridiculous amount. then procreate just...decided that I can't undo anymore. I don't know what to do, I have been working on this for so many hours and now it's just gone. I feel so ridiculous. Is there any way to like... restore how it was or something? I have the time lapse and everything, so it would be so weird to me if it isn't possible to go back and edit it or something. Please help me 😭

My Artwork Debbie and Kermit. Really like how this study turned out
Feels like I over-polished some parts that are meant to be less detailed and kinda out of focus, but still.

I need Procreate technical help How do I save all of my art at once? And how should I save them?
I’ve had a new iPad for a month now, but my old iPad still has all of my art on it and I wanted to factory reset the iPad and give it away to a family member. How can I safely save all of it in their original form with all of the layers? I already have most of it saved as PNG’s when I shared them online and to friends.
Will saving them all as a .PSD file better than saving them as a procreate file? Does the .PSD format like compress them until I import them elsewhere? Will there ever be a risk of future corruption (they’ll be backed up on multiple things, but I’m still worried of that happening). Should I save them all in Google Drive and then back them up on usb drives?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just want to preserve everything in their original form without worrying about corruption or losing them all D:

Been adapting my technique/style by only using lasso tool to define shapes and gradients in order to add colour, I quite like it…means I’m not getting bogged down with detail rendering.
