Where to put a sports memorabilia item on consignment in Prescott area.

Sadly the place at the mall is no more. I have looked online and am finding mainly antique stores. Maybe someone knows a good place offhand, ideally having either buyer or seller experience at that establishment? TIA

Looking for recommendations on things to do around Prescott Valley/Prescott!

Hello everyone! :) As the title says, I’m looking for recommendations on things to do around Prescott Valley/Prescott

I’m originally from Toronto, Canada and I’ve spent most of this year travelling! I spent about five months in Germany, some time in England, took a 2 week trip to Thailand and most recently came to Arizona from Albania/Montenegro. I arrived in Prescott Valley last week and will be here for the next 4–6 months!

I’ve already started exploring a little! On Sunday I went thrifting at Goodwill (itching to thrift again), Monday I checked out In The Game arcade and Hideout Bar and yesterday I went to music bingo at Kimmy’z Secret Saloon which was actually so much fun!

Now I’m looking for ideas on what to do next! What are some hidden gems, fun events, good food spots, outdoor activities or interesting places to check out around here? I’m open to pretty much anything, from kayaking, off roading, hiking to thrifting, festivals, arcades, volunteering, random adventures, or exploring nearby towns.

If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them! And if anyone feels like grabbing something to eat, checking out an event, or exploring somewhere together, feel free to message me. Always happy to meet new people! I’m also looking to join a nice Christian church. If you know any good ones please let me know. 🙏🏾 I’d like to check out a few before choosing one.

I’m in my late 20s, F, 420 friendly and genuinely don’t mind an age gap when it comes to friendships. I actually tend to get along really well with people in their 40s and 50s but I’m happy to meet people from different backgrounds and walks of life. Anyone 25+ is welcome to say hi! 😊
Lmk what should I check out next! Please share your local recommendations!

I finished marking every Flock camera in the Prescott area using my political sign exemption

*My last post got deleted for some reason.

I’m running for Yavapai College Governing Board and realized that the special rules for political signs give candidates an opportunity to draw attention to issues that aren’t necessarily directly related to the office they’re running for. So I figured why not use that opportunity to call attention to Flock cameras in our community?

Obviously Flock cameras are little to do with the responsibilities of a community college governing board member, but they’re an issue worth discussing, and they certainly draw attention to a political race that doesn’t exactly generate a lot of excitement on its own.

Last night we finished marking all the cameras, about 70 in total across. Please keep your eyes pealed for the Neon Octopuses. If you see that this wicked wind knocked one down, please help me put it back up. And if you find a camera that's not marked, please reach out.

If you’re interested in learning more about where I stand and what I hope to change at Yavapai College, check out my website: VoteRyanJones.com

And please help me get the word out on other social media, if you will.

Finally, special thanks to my student volunteers.

Looking for a condo for my mother. Recommendations on a real estate agent?

Hello Prescott!

My mother has spent the last 15+ years traveling the USA in an RV and it’s getting to be time for her to settle down. I’m looking to buy a condo for her to live in and we’ve narrowed it down to Prescott as a place that would be pretty great for her.

I’m out of state and will be visiting soon with her to check out the area and I was looking for recommendations for a real estate agent who could work with us, often remotely, to help find a good place for her.

Has anyone worked with someone recently they’d like to recommend?

Thanks so much!

Thank you very much!

Yavapai college board candidates?

This election is very overwhelming. There is a lot to vote on and I can’t seem to find a lot of information on the candidates for Yavapai college. From the little bit I’ve read Ryan Jones seems like the best choice but I’m curious what other people think. Help!

Looking for help shipping a book

Hello 👋🏿 I’m not sure this is the right place for this, but I’m trying to get a book picked up from a bookstore in Frontier Village Center, taken to the nearest post office, and shipped to me. They only do local pickup and I’m currently too far away to reasonably make the drive.

Missing kitty, last seen September 20th around Mile High Middle School close to the granite creek trail. He’s small, greyish brown with a lazy eye and a snaggle tooth. He’s dearly loved and missed. He’s very friendly and approachable

Thanks!

Moving to Prescott with a 10-year-old — neighborhoods and BASIS experiences?

Hi everyone! We’re considering moving to Prescott from the Netherlands with our 10-year-old daughter.

Which neighborhoods or communities have plenty of children around her age? We’d love somewhere she could safely walk or bike to friends, play outside, and enjoy a social life close to home. She currently does hip-hop dance and gymnastics.

We’re also considering BASIS Prescott. She speaks basic English reasonably well. We’d appreciate parents’ experiences with the school, especially the workload, atmosphere, and friendships.

We’re focusing on Prescott itself rather than Prescott Valley. Any firsthand advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

This is a flair Can anyone help rescue this kitty?

Post image

I was getting ready to rescue this kitty, things happened, I can't afford to rescue it. Kitties age is unknown, I believe it's female, unaltered. When it first showed up about 3 months ago it was DROOLING and in pain, whatever it was made one of my cats sick. I *think* it got hold of a horned lizard and got a full squirt in the mouth, but don't know for sure. 49, Chino Valley, Az

Update* Kitty has been rescued by a very wonderful person. Thank you to all of you for helping.

Potential forest fire thumb butte rd

Post image

I doubt the person/people who did this will read this,.but on saturday evening, I camped at site 17. I discovered the previous camper(s) left an active fire in the fire pit.

After dinner, I dumped a little bit of water i used to clean a pan into the fire pit full of ash, or so I thought. There was a hiss and then i could see a little bit of smoke. I lowered my hand near the ashes and i could feel the heat still.

In the morning, while breaking down camp, it was still hot and so I dug up a bunch of sandy soil and made sure it was out before leaving. Also, this place was trashed and I picked up what I could.

Please do better!

Skull Valley wasn’t named after a couple of bones. It was a massive mass grave.

I always assumed Skull Valley got its name because some pioneers found a stray bone or two back in the day. Even the Skull Valley Wikipedia page seems totally sanitized. It just briefly mentions that "human remains" were found from an old battle.

But the actual history is way more graphic than a short wiki blurb lets on.

When Captain Hargraves and the First California Volunteers rode through the area in March 1864, they didn’t just stumble across a skeleton. They walked right into an absolute horror scene. Historical archives from the Sharlot Hall Museum show that the valley floor was literally covered in huge piles of sun-bleached skulls and bones left out in the open. It was the aftermath of a massive war between the Yavapai and Maricopa tribes, and hundreds of bodies were just left exactly where they fell.

For decades after settlers moved into the area, local farmers and ranchers said that every single tilling season meant digging up hundreds of shallow graves across the valley floor.

The violence didn't stop there either. The valley stayed a bloody flashpoint well into the pioneer era. Just two years after it got its name, a fierce shootout erupted nearby in 1866 between local freighters, a military escort, and native warriors. That single fight added dozens more bodies to the valley's grim collection. Old Prescott newspapers like The Weekly Miner explicitly documented these massive piles of bones that gave our neighboring valley its name.

Next time you drive out that way to check out the Skull Valley Historical Society or just pass through, it’s wild to think about the sheer amount of blood spilled right under your feet.

Aggressive experience with a Groome Transportation driver from PHX to Prescott

I wanted to post this both as a warning to people who use Groome between Sky Harbor and Prescott and because I’ve already reported it directly to the company.
I rode Groome into Prescott on Friday. When we reached my stop, I exited through the sliding passenger door. Because we were parked on an incline, the door slid shut behind me. I was in a hurry to get to my destination and walked to the rear of the van and opened the cargo door to retrieve my bag.
I apparently was not supposed to open that door. I had not seen any instruction saying so.
The driver, Mike T., immediately came very close to me and said, in substance, “You need to quit touching shit, keep the fuck out of my way, and let me do my fucking job.”
I was genuinely confused by how quickly the interaction had escalated. I apologized and told him I hadn’t known passengers weren’t supposed to touch the rear door. He told me there were signs all over the van. I said I hadn’t seen one addressing that.
He pulled out a bag and asked which one was mine. I told him it was the bag he was holding. He handed it to me, then again moved very close to my face and said “Get a life” before walking away.
At that point I told him “fuck you” and left. I’m including that because I don’t want to sanitize my own part of the interaction.
What makes this more concerning is that before any of this happened, I had watched the same driver sharply berate a younger man at the airport who had apparently gotten onto the wrong shuttle by mistake. So my interaction did not feel like an isolated moment of frustration.
I’ve already spoken with Groome dispatch and submitted written feedback through their post-trip survey. I’m waiting to see how the company responds. I’ll update this post if they take meaningful action.
I’m not arguing that passengers should open whatever doors they want on a commercial vehicle. If I wasn’t supposed to open the cargo door, telling me that would have been entirely reasonable. Getting inches from a passenger and repeatedly directing profanity at him over that mistake was not.

Edited to Add: Had another experience with Groome on a return leg to PHX. It was essentially the opposite experience, extremely positive. Most noteworthy was his announcement before closing the doors about all of the rules the previous driver assumed would be obvious.

Prescott is losing its younger generation

I’ve lived in this mountain town since 2015 and as a 24 year old now it’s coming to my attention over the past couple years that there really is no opportunities here for young people as everything is catered towards older folk. That itself isn’t a problem but we live in a city that doesn’t support its younger generation with actual jobs meant for someone older than 16 that doesn’t need 37 requirements to make $18 an hour. But when it comes to building a future, finding actual decent paying work, having a variety of industries, or simply having things to do, the options feel pretty limited. Let’s not even talk about the lack of entertainment.

The median age in Prescott is in the high 50s. Median home value is over $540K against a median household income around $71K, and the median renter household earns about $42K, with over a third of it going to housing. That math doesn't work for someone starting out at $18 an hour. That’s if you can even get the $18/h job, let alone a response.

A lot of the local economy and community seems to be geared toward retirees and the older generation. That creates a problem when you’re a young adult trying to establish yourself. I think Prescott would benefit from more investment in younger residents — more businesses, more industries, cheaper housing options, better paying jobs, and more places for people in their 20s and 30s to actually build a life.

I’m not saying Prescott is a bad place. I’m saying that after almost 12 years here, I can understand why so many younger people eventually feel like they have to leave if they want more opportunity, and so be it, i’ll be packing up soon to start my life elsewhere like the other young people i’ve met here. As Prescott slowly, or quickly, loses access to the younger generation, who’s left to run this town in 20 years?
