"Virginia's Democratic Governor Ralph Northam defended the bill in an interview to radio station WTOP.
The paediatric neurologist said the measure allowed termination "in cases where there may be severe deformities" or when there is a "foetus that's not viable" outside the womb.
"So in this particular example, if a mother's in labour, I can tell you exactly what would happen," he told WTOP's Ask the Governor programme Wednesday.
"The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."
You do understand that they're talking about a newborn that is terminal and actively dying, hence mentioning "resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired". They're not talking about killing a healthy newborn. Or one that has any hope of living on their own. They're talking about a dying newborn. One that cannot be saved long term.
It's on par with having a person of any age in the final stages of cancer or heart failure or whatever, and not forcing them to live or suffer beyond what their body can endure. Make them as comfortable as possible, and allow them to pass peacefully. This is what they're talking about.
Do you not understand that the governor is talking about after birth? That's what we're talking about here.Â
Op posted that this is not a thing, doesn't exist and is something no one is for. This a former governor, talking about a bill that was up for vote. I'm sick of the lies. It was "safe, legal and rare". Then the second that was agreed on, it started directly marching toward killing kids deemed "not viable". And if you read very closely, this is just something that the doctor and mother can decide on.... So my question is, where does it stop? You have Canada pushing to be able to kill people who simply have "mental health issues". That stared with terminally ill people on their deathbed, now were at having a bad few months being enough to qualify for the government to end your life in just 10 short years.Â
If you can't see where this goes, you need to crack open a history book, go to the glossary and look under E for eugenics then keep going through G and H. Wake up.Â

Sounds a lot like after birth to me.
