How do you guys work out what sealed Pokémon products are actually worth?

Hey everyone, I'm from Australia and I've been looking into how people work out whether sealed Pokémon products are actually worth buying. I've noticed eBay sold listings can be pretty misleading sometimes, especially when you've got bundles, different language versions and Best Offer sales where you can't see the actual price. Just curious how you guys normally research prices before buying something? Do you mainly use eBay, certain websites or Discord groups? Would be interesting to hear what everyone uses and whether there's anything that annoys you about researching prices.

Do you work CGC into your buying strategy?

Has anyone else had success buying CGC 8s/9s with the intention to crossover in the future, specially LV.Xs, B/W, X/Y stuff? I also like buying CGC to atleast get past the games played with raw condition on eBay since literally anything passes authenticity now when it comes to raw condition, the extra money to go CGC over raw but still cheaper than PSA is worth it to me, what do you guys think?

What could this sell for? POP 61

I traded for this card about 6 months back for around $7k value. It’s had 4 fairly recent sales (mid-end July) ranging from 6k-6.5k, but with the way vintage has been moving what do you reckon it would go for currently? And what
would be the best route to sell it? Any thoughts are appreciated. It’s a POP 61 card.

Bought for $300 last year, I love this card and it looks amazing BUT, hold or sell now before it dips?

First-Time Vendor Strategy: Advice needed on bulk card pricing tiers ($0.10 / $0.20) and cash-handling rounding rules for local TCG shows

Hey everyone! I’ve been collecting Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering for a while, but I’m completely new to vending and setting up a table at local markets and TCG shows. I've tried searching around online and watching videos, but I'd love to get some direct input from people who have actually run tables.

I have a couple of questions about pricing mechanics that I'm trying to figure out:

1. Bulk card pricing: For my raw bulk Pokémon and MTG, I was thinking about setting up these bins:

  • Non-holo / non-reverse holo: 10 for $1 ($0.10 each)
  • Holo / reverse holo: 5 for $1 ($0.20 each)

Is this a good sweet spot for moving bulk at shows, or do buyers usually prefer a different structure?

2. Rounding odd change (e.g., $28.26): When a card or sealed product comes out to an odd decimal like $28.26, how do you usually handle it? Do you round down to $28 to keep it friendly and encourage repeat customers, or round up to $29 to protect your margins? Or do you use a specific cutoff rule (like rounding down under $0.40 and up over)? I definitely don’t want to lose money, but I also know how expensive this hobby is and want people to feel treated fairly.

I’ve been to plenty of card shows, but everyone prices things completely differently so it's hard to gauge what works best. If anyone has advice or insight for a first-time vendor, I would super appreciate it!

Thanks! :)

To what extent are card packs and gambling the primary reason behind the pump in card value?

I came across this recent video from Goblin - the thesis is basically that companies like Gamestop are driving up value by placing outrageously high bids on slabs to package into their card packs. Gamestop recoups the difference between their bid and the "true" market value by selling lottery slots across many users for the slim chance of obtaining the slab. Not only that, Gamestop is actually incentivized to make outrageously high bids to pump the recent sale values to justify their pricing for card packs (i.e., making users believe that if they got the hit, they would actually be making their money's worth or more). Am I out of the loop and is this already well known? I'm also surprised this doesn't violate FTC regulations - the odds and expected value disclosures for these card packs are built on recent sale prices, which Gamestop is directly inflating in the first place...

How would you value an AH error box with a missing pack slot and a duplicate promo?

Thumbnail

I came across an error box with two promos instead of one, with the second promo misaligned in the spot where a booster pack should be. The box contains 9 packs instead of the usual 10.

I'm curious how people think an error like this would affect its long-term value compared with a regular sealed box.

A few things I'm wondering:

Does the combination of a duplicate promo and a missing pack make this more interesting as a factory error collectible?

Would the misalignment of the second promo add to its appeal, or does the missing pack hurt its value more?

Do comparable PokemonTCG factory errors have a track record of selling at a premium, or is the market too niche to establish a reliable price?

I'm particularly interested in how collectors would evaluate its potential rarity and resale demand over the next 5 years, rather than just whether it's an interesting curiosity.

Would you consider this a desirable error box, or more of a novelty with limited demand?

UPC Presale EBay scam?

Post image

Hey everyone,

I placed a pre-order for 3x Pokémon 30th Anniversary Ultra-Premium Collections releasing November 6th.

The seller contacted me with the following terms before confirming my slot:

  • They are locking in a "4th Wave Allocation" to guarantee my stock and price.
  • They are uploading a "preliminary routing tracking number" immediately that will cycle in the system.
  • They asked me to reply "I agree" to accept these terms or take a full refund now.

Now, USPS tracking shows an actual physical package/envelope is on its way and scheduled to be delivered to my house today. I have no idea what is inside this delivery (likely a paper invoice, pre-order certificate, or empty mailer).

I want the boxes, but this setup makes me nervous:

  1. Has anyone bought from a seller doing this before, and did you actually receive your real items when release day came?
  2. Does sending a placeholder mailer to mark the order as "Delivered" today intentionally ruin my buyer protection/refund window if they fail to fulfill in November?

Should I stay in or cancel? Thanks

Hey guys.

I just got this slab in the mail from eBay. The back has a deep scratch that was not shown in the listing. Would you let it be or contact the seller?

There is no reason besides greed to trade at a percentage on Facebook Marketplace as a seller.

No, you cant use table fees as an excuse. Near me, its under 30 CAD a table. That alone seems to be a pretty eat-able cost. The only answer is greed. Its a private sale! Get real

Good hold or sell and invest into something else??

I’m not overly fussed about the masterballs personally but just got it back from grading. With a 25% gem rate and okay pop of around 1500 albeit not the most desired card I wondered if it was good to hold on too as I’m tempted to sell it and purchase a different slab I like, possibly put it towards the roaring moon SIR from prismatic. Be good to hear other views 👍

r/PokeInvesting • • 21h ago

Since when did Prism Stars become valued!? They were so common during sun/moon

I have huge stacks of them taking up space in my trade bulk. I honestly just considered them bulk. I will gladly sell them to finally free up space, but what’s even the best way to go about it?

Japan Lawson 30 th celebration pecks

Has anyone managed to find the Pokémon Celebration Packs at Lawson in Tokyo today?
They were supposed to go on sale at 7 AM this morning (October 16), but I’ve already visited five Lawson stores and couldn’t find them in any of them.
Am I looking in the wrong place inside the stores, or was I just unlucky?
Has anyone managed to buy them in Tokyo today? If so, which Lawson location did you find them at?
Thanks for any tips

CGC 3.5 base blastoise SQUARE CUT

Got this ten years ago off TCG player to complete my base set binder, listed without pic as HP for $40. I was shocked when it came and I realized it had one square cut corner. Finally got it graded all these years later and it came back today, so excited that it is authentic. Can't find any similar recent listings or auctions. NFS and NFT, but I'd love to get an idea of what it could be worth. Thank you!

Legendary Collection Reverses

Safe to say LC Reverse Holos have had the biggest boom in the last couple of months, especially in the last week or two.

We’re seeing raw cards of mid-Pokemon and trainers sell for hundreds and hundreds of dollars in moderate-light play condition (not even NM).

Anything graded is especially spiking, adding on to that premium. We’re seeing cards graded 7 or higher enter 4 digits that you could have gotten for under $100 or close to raw LP/NM pricing just 6-12 months ago. This is unprecedented.

Nobody has a crystal ball of what will happen to these in the future , but this type of increase is unsustainable. I was hoping to generate a discussion on where we see this going, if simply having the reverse holo pattern from this set regardless of Pokemon/trainer are legitimate sales, or if this is just a wave of excitement and everyone getting in now.

I found this when cleaning out my old childhood belongings; it seems to be in better condition than most ungraded I saw on eBay. I am new to this, what should I do?

Help with the Value of my Pokémon game!

Looking to see if anyone might be able to help give me a value on this! I’ve had since I was a kid (it was a birthday present and I got 2, opened one and kept the other). I know roughly what a sealed NiB one goes for but it’s hard to find any information on one in a blister pack. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
