Due to a large influx of people not reading the rules and how small of a Mod team we are this is here to serve as the only reminder of the rules. Just to be clear asking or commenting about prices is a permanent ban, the internet is not the place to judge if prices are "fair".

Rules are available on the sidebar.

I’m trying to inform my landlady that this is not a normal water heater exhaust appearance but I don’t know what I’m looking at.

Thank you everyone. My carbon monoxide detector beeped, I shut off the gas and heater. Landlady was informed

Foul Smell After Installing New Faucet

Thumbnail

Hoping someone with more knowledge than I might be able to help: I recently installed new faucets and sink stoppers throughout our house, and although most seem to be fine, there is a noticeable odor coming from our master bathroom sinks after turning on the water. The smell, which is sulfuric, seems to be coming from the drain and not the faucet itself. Any ideas what the problem could be? Although I did change out the sink’s downspout to the p-trap to accommodate the new installations, nothing else was adjusted. The other weird part is the same faucets and sink stoppers were installed in our other bathrooms and the same issue does not exist.

If it’s of help, I’ve included a couple of pictures of under one of our master bathroom sinks. Thanks!

Sump pump discharge with backup

My basement flooded last week with my old sump pump failing. I replaced it with a new pump and a watchdog back up pump. However, I feel like I can hear turbulence much louder than the previous set up and want to minimize noise as much as possible.

I have the new main pump on the left and the back up watch dog on the right line.

Would it be worthwhile to swap the main pump to the right and and watchdog to the left, so the main pump isn’t shooting directly into the wye?

I think that’s the turbulence issue? Or would it not make much difference and there is a different layout that would work here.

First time doing something like this. So any tips or pointers help.

Attached is the old single pump setup vs where I am now.

Completely silent other than the turbulence of water.

Constant bad smell coming from the kitchen sink and dishwasher

Hi everyone,
We’re dealing with a really nasty smell coming from our kitchen sink and dishwasher. It’s gotten so bad that the smell spreads throughout our entire kitchen and living room.

I’ve attached photos of our current plumbing setup and the parts we’ve bought to try to fix it.

Current setup:
-We have an IKEA kitchen sink with an existing siphon/water trap.
-Below that, there’s a Y-shaped connector.
-The left side of the Y connects to the kitchen sink drainage.
-The right side connects to the dishwasher’s wastewater hose.
-The bottom of the Y connects to a pipe that goes down and then turns left into the main drainage system.

We’re located in the Netherlands, if that matters for plumbing standards.

Are there any red flags that stand out right away or is everything fine?

Sewer smell after shower clog removal

Post image
2 Upvotes

We had a shower clog and a plumber came and removed an old copper P-trap. They installed a PVC P-trap which looks like it is wider than it was before.

We’ve noticed after showering that it smells like sewer. It looks like there is water in the trap but maybe it’s too wide and not sealing? Should I have the plumber who installed come out to inspect?

Seems like a lot of work to do this in the worst way possible. Held on for 20 years though.

Main Water Line Sleeve

• Upvotes

Hello. I’m about to install a waterline from my meter to my house. It’s only about a 30 foot run. I have the clear uponor which I’m going to use. My question is I bought some corrugated piping that can cover up the uponor. Is this OK to do or would covering it lead to some sort of issues down the road whether it’s enclosed water, heat build up or sand in between the two pipes. I’m in South Florida.

Thank you.

Looking for a replacement shower head for this vintage Milwaukee Faucets "Adjusto" adjustable height shower rail/slide bar assembly.
It’s got some threads I’ve never seen before and I’ve had no luck using the internet so I figured I’d go old school and ask the good people of Reddit. Thanks

Blowing out external water lines, air compressor?

Post image
• Upvotes

We recently moved into a new house and I was given some vague general advice that I should blow air through the lines before winter as there's a sprinkler system and external faucet in the front yard. I have this connection in my basement but I'm not familiar with this process, I would assume I have to do some combination of opening/closing valves but not understanding how the air will pass through if they are closed, unless there's another valve I'm not seeing I don't get what closing any of these would even do?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

New build. Inspected and signed off in VA in 2024. Just bought the house and planning a finished space down here and don't want to cover up any crimes.

Gas Hot Water going cold. Is this the problem?

Thumbnail

Bosch gas hot water system is going cold after about 1 minute of hot water, and won't get warm again until power is cycled off and on.

Cleaned the filter on the cold inlet. Problem still extant.

Hot water outlet has blue copper deposits on the pressure/temperature relief valve (?). Is this what's causing my issues?

Is this something I can fix myself? Thanks.

Toilet started running

So lately our toilet wouldn’t fill. I thought it was a flapper problem but turns out it’s the filler. It started making a high pitched whistle so I looked up how to “flush” the filler. It’s still doing it and the toilet is inoperable.

Help connecting two pipes - what do I need?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I need to connect pipe 1 to pipe 2. What is the best method to do so?

For context, they used to be connected.

Pipe 1 is my three exterior hose lines that used to be connected to the red X, which was my well. Originally, the entire house was on well but pipe 1 was capped in 2012 when the interior went to municipal water, but the hoses remained well. Pipe 2 and the pex is my indoor plumbing and connection to the main water line.

I recently had my well abandoned and now need to reconnect my hose lines to my city line two feet away.

The inside wall is a bathroom where the ceiling is wet. It’s a bathroom directly above that bathroom as well. Upstairs bathroom floor is not wet. This picture is outside the downstairs bathroom.

Plumber coming hopefully tomorrow just wondering what it could be.

Baseboards also wet. Wall near the water heater also wet which is on the opposite side of wall of the bathroom where this photo was taken.

What is this white fuzzy Material?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I was wondering if any of you knew what this white fuzzy material is. I’m assuming it’s some sort of mineral buildup but when I wipe it off, it’s both soft and dry. Is there a leak somewhere and do I need to have this replaced? It was installed 3 years ago.
This pipe leads into the hot water tank.

How dangerous is this?

Hot water heater has been making hissing noise for months, asked landlord about it multiple times and a plumber was sent out today and realized this leak(I think it was leaking for 2 months),
He is going to replace it but im wondering how do I even clean the floor. Is it going to mold? And do I stop using the hot water in the meantime?
