This sub is an awesome place, but it can also be extremely tiring. I'm not a mod here, just a piercer, but life would be a lot easier if you all could stop recommending the following to each other:
- Oil.
- Tea Tree oil.
- Soap.
- Alcohol, Betadine, Neosporin, etc.
- Using cotton pads, cotton balls or Q-tips to dry off/whatever you guys do with them. Cotton particles can get trapped inside the piercing channel, which will make healing incredibly difficult and infection more likely.
- Downsizing in gauge. This will do NOTHING good for your healing piercing.
If you're trying to tell me or other professionals off by saying "but it worked for me!" or "my piercer told me this"; you've been super lucky and your piercer was not a pro. Don't go back to that studio. APP is a great place to start when picking out your piercer, but it's still no guarantee.
Please keep in mind you are trying to heal an incredibly deep wound with a foreign object in it that your body desperately wants to push out - essentially, it is an implant. There are no "casual" or "easy" piercings - even with a "simple" earlobe piercing, you are puncturing the skin with something that resembles a scalpel. Use common sense and ask yourself: "would I use this method on a surgical wound?". In 10/10 cases the answer will be "no".

Iāve had this dermal for a little over a year. Iām really not sure what to do I donāt want to get it removed I know itās gonna hurt like a bitch
Iām 3 months into my industrial and Iāve tried everything to make this heal and I feel like nothing is helping, this bump comes and goes it pops and it bleeds for a bit then comes back but now I feel like this is puss I want to pop it but idk if that would do any good, should I just give up and take it out?š
I got this floating navel piercing back in August,It got a moisture bump and Iāve been starting to dry it more throughly (even using a hairdryer on low like suggested) but it keeps leaking pus that dries and crusts, sometimes itās brownish.I think I keep irritating the bump because when I sit I think my stomach folds up to touch it,is this normal and should I keep waiting for the moisture bump to go away or is it infected??
hey guys (sorry this is my first reddit post) js wanted to ask if this is normal ????? looks like mcdonalds logo lol but im on my 2nd week / doesnt hurt / using non alcoholic mouthwash & brushing after every meal !
Iāve had this piercing for over a year, and itās just been having issues ever since. Iāve had this piercing before and it healed so fast. Then I got it repierced and the piercer did it so crooked. Some weeks itās fine no oozing no redness then if it gets bumped it does this!!!! Any advice? My piercer told me to use rubbing alcohol but that doesnāt even sound right
I keep accidentally snagging my piercing and picking at it subconsciously š I donāt do it on purpose and I make a conscious effort to not, but sometimes slips my mind
Iām not sure if itās infected, because it doesnāt feel hot to the touch, and it doesnāt really hurt or itch š¤·āāļø itās really just the bumps that wonāt go away, occasionally it gets a little sore but thatās after a snag, I think it happens because Iām a side sleeper and tend to sleep predominantly on that side, and I snag it while fixing my bangs and such.
Iāve had this piercing since June 6th, and Iāve been getting the bumps on and off since I got it, but I canāt tell if itās infected or just a bad irritation. Any advice??
iām not looking for professional advice just opinions but i want a navel piercing and idk if it looks like it could work because ive had surgery through my bellybutton two different times. im going to a piercer soon to get it looked at but does anyone have any idea?
Got my tongue pierced this past Sunday (5 days ago) and the healing and everything has been perfectly fine everything been chill. The swelling seemed to go down significantly but this afternoon I noticed my lower gums and teeth becoming sensitive. Mind you this whole time the pain has been nonexistent. So I checked and saw a little red dot (as pictured) and figured itās probably from where the ball sits in my mouth when my tongue is relaxed. I donāt know what to do or if this is normal as far as the pain and it being uncomfortable. Any advice??
i got it done just a week ago, the first few days where fine but for the last twi days itās been oozing with some sort of yellow-ish white puss. Iāve been cleaning with isotonic nasal spray and nothing else. Should i visit a doctor or is this normal healing? Please help
I used to have a bridge piercing that healed beautifully and I had it for over a year. But I had surgery and forgot to put it back in. Three days later its completely closed. The hole looks fine still years later. Iām really missing it and might do it before the end of the year is up. Would it be possible to get it re-pierced? Even if theres scare tissue I donāt mind the pain.
soooooo I got this pierced last year, found out it was piercing incorrectly and was switched to floating navel jewelry. The place I went too after I found out it was done wrong told me I could probably keep it in but there was a chance it might reject since the placement was a bit off. I canāt tell if this is rejecting and if I should just take it out or if itās just really REALLY irritated, especially since I work with kids and have had some hits to my stomach and things of that sort. Iām worried itāll go inside of the skin and heal over or smth so any advice is needed š„²š„²š„²
hii i got a bridge piercing 24 hours ago and the bar is like, HUGE. it slides around every time iām on my side and hurts a bit. do i need to suck it up and deal with it for a few weeks or can i get it replaced with a shorter bar sooner? i also didnt know it was a 12g and would really prefer a 14g, not sure the soonest i can downsize there
pierced my 2nds about 2 days ago but i feel like they r a bit close. i did them with the intent of getting 3rds but i do have rilllly small ears so space is limited. i do prefer simpler jewelry and will probably go for hoops in the future so i feel like its fine but what do yall think?
also i bought a piercing kit to pierce it and accidentally used the 12 gauge needle instead of like a 16g am i cooked or its fine hahaha. (i was in the yolo mindset when i did it i didnt peep the gauge size)
i have a flatback helix that's a few months old. i've been babying it, not sleeping on it, hair constantly back, saline spray, warm shower, no touching. i accidentally bopped it twice in two days and slept with my hair down last night because it wasn't hurting and i think i'm starting to get tension baldness
but i think this was before then, little pink bump but it's not like the irritation bump it had earlier or my other helix gets, because those are around the base of the stud. this is above it...like it's touching the stud but just partially and the rest is just. there. so now i'm super worried
i don't know if i'm predisposed to keloids. i got two when i had moles removed on my chest/shoulder literally 20 years ago at age 11 but i have a small tattoo and like i said the other helix and they were fine....
guys am i cooked? got the piercing done well over a year ago with no issues except the occasional snag. a few months ago this piercing bump started developing and though ive been cleaning with saline daily, it wont go away. it hasnāt gotten bigger and doesnt seem to be infected, and the piercing hasnāt migrated or shown signs of rejecting, but still it is ugly!
tonight i was washing my face and my piercing came undone and fell down the sink. itās 10pm so ill have to wait til tomorrow to go to the piercer. any advice on how to care for it until then/heal these bumps? is it likely ill be told to leave the jewellery out and let it heal? š„² i love it so much
Hey y'all, long time lurker. I got my labret pierced in mid June of this year, titanium flat back internally threaded and has been downsized. Until about a month ago, aftercare included cleaning the outside with saline and swishing my mouth with a gentle mouthwash. I accidentally bought some harsher stuff after I ran out of that bottle, but stopped using it about two weeks ago and switched to just warm water instead. I have great dental hygiene, so I don't think that's the issue- brushing my teeth twice a day and flossing every night. I know it's probably some sort of irritation bump, but I have no clue how to get rid of it- I'm pretty heavily pierced but I've never gotten one before and this is my first oral piercing. I've always just kinda let my piercings do their own thing and heal on their own. It doesn't hurt, but it's a nuisance in my mouth and it looks gross. I do tend to unconsciously fidget with the piercing with my tongue, but I stop whenever I notice I'm doing it. So... Advice? I really want it gone. It appeared about a week ago and has gotten significantly bigger fast. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really really don't want to get rid of it, it's my favorite piercing ever and I've wanted one since I was a kid. Obviously if I have to, I will.
