Bit Annoyed When I ask a friend "hows the baby" and they sternly correct me

• Upvotes

Sometimes I end up getting in touch or reconnecting with old friends and coworkers years after they had a baby and when I ask "hows the baby?" they always have to say "Timothy is in preschool now" or something to that effect in an annoyed tone.

I know babies grow up just never understood why people get offended when I ask about the baby. I dont have any kids of my own so if this is a faux-pas then I was unaware.

Bit Annoyed When people don't know the average price for something so they make up what they want to pay and then get sticker shock when their made up price does not fit reality.

• Upvotes

"Oh wow that's so expensive!" No, it isn't actually. It's cheap. In fact, it's the cheapest of this particular product which you have apparently never purchased before.

Fairly Annoyed When store staff NOTICEABLY stare at you in a store.

• Upvotes

n the last 1-2 years, I have noticed an INCREASE in the incredulous or PROLONGED shocked looks from cashiers and store staff when I enter/shop in certain grocery stores near my home. My mom says it's in my head, but I have noticed ACTUAL shocked, prolonged stares from store staff while doing my usual shopping...which I find ODD.

Examples: While shopping for cucumbers, one of the female staff was GAWKING at me when I looked up. She kept staring until I walked my cart past her. This happened with 2 other cashiers there on different occasions...like one female cashier was burning holes in my head. I either look like someone who worked there or it was something else. But...the same thing happened at Trader Joe's a few times.

Some potential reasons: 1. I live in a diverse area so idk if they are profiling me? I don't see them acting this way with other diverse shoppers?

  1. I'm also a repeated shopper and HAVE NEVER stolen so idk if that's it? I dress cleanly, put on make up, but it doesn't seem to change the dynamic. 3. There is either a known thief who looks like me or I must be movie star beautiful (joke) because I don't get it?

It gets so bad sometimes that I have panic attacks before leaving the house or send my mom to go in my place. Or I'll walk really slow after paying with my receipt in hand to show I am not stealing. This is all so strange to me.

Does anyone ever deal with this? Wouldn't they confront you if they actually thought you stole?

Ultra Annoyed This is a pet peeve toward myself but I hate how clumsy I am!!

I feel like I’m always knocking something over my accident or tripping or dropping something out my hand and it’s very frustrating because it’s really not intentional . my bf gets mad at me sometimes because he says I’m not paying attention so I’ve been really trying to work on it but it’s just my biggest pet peeve toward myself

Ultra Annoyed People who watch videos or call on speaker in public without headphones?

I genuinely do not understand when this became socially acceptable. Sitting on a crowded bus or train while someone right next to you blasts full-volume reels, videos, or speakerphone calls is incredibly frustrating. Cheap earbuds exist for a reason, yet people still force an entire compartment or waiting room to listen to their personal phone audio. It completely ruins the commute for everyone else.

Fairly Annoyed I think calling yourself "busy" all the time quietly became a status flex

Whenever I ask someone how they're doing the default answer is "busy".

Not "good", not "tired", just busy. Like it's the socially safe thing to say.

Somewhere along the way busy stopped meaning you have a lot on & started meaning you're important. I've caught myself doing it too.

Lately I've been answering with something more honest & half the conversations just... stall.

Maybe people don't know what to do with that.

Fairly Annoyed People who watch YouTube shorts out loud in public

I don't have a problem with YouTube shorts, but when people are scrolling through them out loud in public it just seems demonically dystopian and low IQ.

Then there's the version I experience at work where people watch them on full blast in the bathroom while taking a shit.

Ultra Annoyed When clothing companies see the other end of the tag inside the clothes.

Just bought some clothes for my daughter and one of the dresses all the other ends of the tags are sewn into the creases of the outfit so it can’t be removed without damaging it.

Fairly Annoyed People who talk on the phone with wireless earbuds and even worse, on full speaker phone in stores and generally quiet public places.

This grinds my gears quite a bit. It's just rude to everyone else around. We don't want to hear your asinine conversation and you are showing that you don't give a shit about the people around you.

Fairly Annoyed "jokes" that shame someone for their appearance, height, or weight (or anything alike)

> video of a bigger woman sitting on a chair

> man jokes about the chair being the real hero

> woman calls him out for being a dick

> man claps back that she can't take a joke

I can't stand those kinds of "jokes" because they aren't funny, they're just rude and inconsiderate.

Bit Annoyed Vampires in series/movies who waste their food

I don't like it when a vampire starts drinking from a human but stops after a few seconds and just throws the human away like an empty soda can. Feels like a waste of food to me if the human ended up dead anyway

Bit Annoyed Videos of people playing guitar and just staring at the camera

I don’t know why but it’s always irked me for some reason haha. It feels awkward. Stop staring at me man. The YouTuber Anthony Vincent, although a singer not a guitarist, does this too much. Just stares into your soul.

Fairly Annoyed When people insist they can’t understand basic typos

When I’m sending a message to someone I usually type very fast. Sometimes I can garble up a word or if I am using the swipe feature on the keyboard then sometimes it chooses the wrong word for me and i don’t notice right away. 99% of the time this typo does not affect the context of the sentence whatsoever. It pisses me off when people reply acting super confused like what I said was gibberish. Here’s an example that annoys me a lot, when I’m typing casually sometimes I will use “u” rather than “you” when texting. The “i” button is right next to the “u” and sometimes I tap the wrong one without noticing and people refuse to use context to understand and rather harp on the error like it’s fundamental. Example:

Me: “hey i was wondering if i wanted to go to see a movie together? there’s one u like playing next week.”

Them: “why would i know if you want to see a movie?”

Like…. obviously it was a typo… do you think I’m so stupid that I was truly asking you that?

Obviously if the typo changes the entire context of the conversation then yes I can’t blame them for misunderstanding, but that is rarely actually the case! I don’t want to have to proofread my casual texts like they are college admission essays or something because you can’t understand that I meant “carrot” when typing “varrot” in a message talking about my garden.

EDIT: if my example of a typo is completely incoherent and I could never expect someone to understand what I meant…. then wow….

Ultra Annoyed "What do we think about <thing>?"

Seriously? Are you so god damn vacuous that you can't form your own opinion? You have to have the hivemind formulate one and spoon-feed it to you? Get a fucking personality, learn to think for yourself.

Fairly Annoyed When people feel the need to point out that I don’t need the things I already own.

What is the point of this? It’s okay to want things I don’t need. If they want to be minimalist anti consumerism that’s great, but they don’t need to make these comments about things I already own. It comes off as a weird superiority complex.

Ultra Annoyed Simple instructions

People that can’t follow the most basic instructions make me insane. I mean very simple, clear and concise instructions.

I work at a sand pit, trucks need to drive in, get loaded, pull up to the window to get their ticket, and leave. That’s a it.. that’s the whole situation. I have very large signs on my window that say
“DO NOT EXIT YOUR TRUCK
1) GO LOAD
2) PULL UP TO WINDOW”
The amount of idiots that will park in the middle of the drive, that other trucks are trying to get into, and walk up to my window is absolutely astounding. Once they get to the window I don’t open it right away, I give them time to read the very large signs that are eye level with them, since they apparently couldn’t from their truck, they still will knock on the window. Just as bad, before you enter the pit, there’s a large metal sign with the company name and address, the amount of delivery drivers that come here, which is the wrong location, mind-boggling. I have a second sign on the door to my building that says “WE DO NOT ACCEPT DELIVERIES AT THIS LOCATION, YOU’RE AT THE WRONG ADDRESS” they’re still going to knock on my door and ask.

Just found this sub, nice to have a venting place!

Bit Annoyed "Amount" instead of "number"

I'm bilingual (English and Polish) and it happens in both languages - when someone is talking about something countable, eg. plastic bottles, most of the time they use "amount", even though it should be "number". "The amount of plastic bottles tossed around the city has decreased" NO. The NUMBER has decreased. You can count it - one bottle, two bottles, one thousand and thirty-three bottles.

Bit Annoyed People who use 'just because' as an excuse/reason/justification.

Can be applied to anything really.

If you instruct me to alter something (wording, attire, mannerisms etc.) Or insist that something needs to happen.

And I ask you for the reasoning and you respond with 'because' or 'because you have to'..

Please wholeheartedly understand that 'because' isn't a reason and I won't be doing it, or I will go back and forth with you until i've extracted the (usually petty) reason behind it.

Or at the very least, I can make random requests to you to change whatever I decide just because.

The most aggravating scenario is in a workplace when the because is used in place of an actual reason that is usually unprofessional, exclusionary or straight up illegal.

Bit Annoyed The way that British people laugh during EVERY social interaction with strangers

FYI, I am also British.

"Is this the right train"..."I hope so!"..."Hahahaha!!!!!"

"Its a bit wet outside isn't it?"..."yes it is!"...""Hahahaha!!!!".

I get we probably use this as social coping mechanisms, but I still hate it anyway.

Ultra Annoyed Plastic candy wrappers that tear unpredictably

I'm old enough to remember when candy bars used to come in waxed paper wrappings. You could tear the end off and eat and the wrapper would keep your hand clean. Nowadays if you tear them open the plastic tears all the way down the side or just cuts off a ccorner.

Ultra Annoyed People who stare at you like you're an exhibit in a zoo while you're just trying to eat

There is literally nothing more annoying than taking a break to eat, only to realize you've got a front-row live audience watching your every single bite. It instantly kills the vibe, makes you hyper-aware of everything you're doing, and turns a simple lunch break into an awkward staring contest.

You shouldn't have to literally crawl into the depths of the abyss and hide just to get some basic privacy. People really need to mind their own business and look away.

Ultra Annoyed When other drivers gain on you in the passing lane and don’t give you a chance to move over, so they swerve in front of the car that you had just passed before you get the chance to move back into the right lane

This is essentially what happens:

  1. You gain on a slower vehicle. (This can happen even when you’re going the speed limit because a lot of people seem to think it’s okay to drive at about half the speed limit or less.)

  2. You get over into the passing lane (left).

  3. You start to pass them.

  4. Someone starts gaining on you in the same lane (the passing/left lane)… because there is always someone who has to go faster.

  5. You pass the slower vehicle in the right lane, but you don’t get over immediately because proper safety etiquette involves making sure it’s safe to get over, and basically seeing the vehicle in the other lane clearly out of your mirrors before getting back over in front of them.

  6. The vehicle gaining on you in the passing/left lane gets close enough to you for their behavior to be considered tailgating, and they immediately start to swerve over into the right lane when they are barely a single car space ahead of the vehicle that is driving slower than both of you.

I promise you… nothing is that serious. In any situation (emergency or not), you can wait a few extra seconds (barely even that) to give someone else in the passing lane a chance to get back over. They are watching you, they are watching the other vehicle, and they are using their mirrors; more often than not, they do intend to get back over into the right lane. This reckless behavior is unacceptable, and it doesn’t matter what your circumstances are.

Some people don’t just jump back over; they wait until there’s a safe space between their vehicle and the other one that they passed. If you paid attention during your driving test, you would know that. Most of the time, the people who gain on a passing vehicle and abruptly swerve in front of another one in the right lane aren’t even using their turn signals.
