They don't say the 'S' st the end of anything

Why do my students just ignore pronouncing the S at the end of words???

They can see it

They can say it

But slap me silly, they don't read it in a sentence!

This is driving me to drink!

I did something

I don’t know if one would classify this as good or bad. I had a student who I suspected was using multiple free trial lessons to take lessons. Normally I wouldn’t do anything because it’s not my problem and I couldn’t be sure because they always have their cameras off. But this student was very rude so I did report them! I hope I never have to face them again.

Please help me!

I have this Chinese student that I’ve been teaching for almost a year now. She still struggles to form complete, correct sentences on her own and sometimes doesn’t understand basic questions or tasks I give her. She often seems disconnected or bored during lessons, and I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to keep her mentally engaged with the book. She told me her challenge is knowing how to answer correctly in English, even when she already knows the answer. Usually, she’ll type her answer in the chatbox, and she’s often right. But when it comes to saying those same answers aloud, she struggles.

I’m using Junior Free Talk 1 because I thought it would encourage her to speak more and help her get familiar with everyday questions and how to answer them.

For those who’ve taught similar students, what would you suggest? How can I help her get better at forming sentences and expressing herself verbally?

PS: This isn’t just about one student. I’d love to learn strategies I can apply to other students with similar difficulties.

Business English + Dialect Coach

Hi all I am an English teacher and business coach. I recently moved to Poland with my husband and want to fill the needs of business people in Europe and North America.

For those with B1-B2 English proficiency, I want to give you an edge with understanding the nuances of business English. That way you can land that promotion, have confidence giving the presentation, and never have to repeat yourself again.

I'm looking for 10 intermediate English speakers for a new 12-week English communication program. We'll work on fluency, pronunciation, natural English and confidence. I'm offering the first cohort at a significantly reduced founding-member price in exchange for detailed feedback and a testimonial.

We will start with a brief assessment that will be your roadmap to success. If you are working on a tight timeline (college admissions video, job interview, or presentation deadline) I have you covered.

If the cohort is not right for you, private consultations are available.

DM me for more details!

Best,

Angela

Searching for English tutors

Hello everybody,

We’re a Shanghai-based online English tutoring business that’s been growing steadily. We’re now looking to bring on more part-time teachers to meet the demand for new lessons.

I oversee all the operational work for the programme. As we expand, I want to focus more energy on business promotion, social media content creation and class scheduling. That’s why I’m reaching out to find passionate educators to join our team.

Our programme serves Chinese learners of all ages — young kids, teenagers and adult students. Our goal is to deliver engaging, tailored English classes to help learners build practical language ability and prepare for overseas study.

We run two lesson formats: group sessions and fully personalised 1-on-1 private tuition.
Our course range includes original textbook courses such as Oxford Blue Dot and Think, general adult English, plus overseas exam preparation covering IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and SAT.

For adult group lessons (levels 0 to C2), we cover exam training, pre-class presentations, topic discussions around news, economics and daily conversational English.
For kids and teens, classes use age-graded textbooks with speaking practice matched to their level.
One-on-one lessons are fully customised: test prep, textbook study, and in-depth discussion on social and economic topics.

We have a 20-minute introductory trial session for every new private student, designed for you and the learner to get to know each other. For group classes, there is also a trial lesson available. All trial sessions, whether for 1-on-1 or group classes, are paid at your standard full hourly rate, no discount.

For adult group courses, the student roster may vary slightly each week. While the individual learners might not be exactly the same from class to class, all participants are grouped by fixed language levels. For example, all students in one session will be at B2 level. You won’t need to adjust your lesson materials; you can prepare your resources normally.

Our team handles all marketing and student recruitment. If students request your classes, we will coordinate scheduling for you.

All classes follow China Time (UTC+8). There is no location requirement for teachers; you can teach remotely from anywhere in the world.

Who we’re looking for:
✅ Native English speakers (mandatory requirement)
✅ TESOL/TEFL or other ESL teaching certifications are highly preferred
✅ Previous teaching experience is a bonus
✅ Reliable internet connection, good webcam and microphone

This is a cooperative part-time contractor role.
What we offer:

• Payment issued after every completed class

• No agency commission deducted. You set your own hourly rate, paid in RMB via Alipay or PayPal

• You retain ownership of your intellectual property; copyright of your self-created teaching materials stays with you

• No restrictions on teaching for other platforms or accepting outside students

• Only requirement: send us your monthly available time slots, so we can match and schedule lessons with students efficiently

If this opportunity interests you, please send me a DM with the following information:

  1. Your CV
  2. Your expected hourly pay for both 1-on-1 and group lessons (in RMB)

Note: Our current teacher rates range from 80 RMB to 300 RMB based on teaching experience. We use a "Teacher-Set Rate" model—you quote your rate, and we pay you 100% of it with zero deductions from your pay.

  1. Your available time slots in October (China Time)
  2. Also kindly share your teaching specialties, e.g. textbook courses, IELTS/SAT exam coaching, adult conversation classes.

We will contact shortlisted applicants through WeChat.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Help a teacher out!

Hi everyone! I recently resigned from my full-time job as a BPO worker, but I decided to keep my part-time work as an online English teacher. I’m now considering focusing on online teaching full-time.

I’m currently working with a company as an independent contractor, but unfortunately, the pay isn’t very good. I’d really like to transition into becoming a private online English teacher and build my own student base, but I honestly have no idea where to start or where to find students.

For those who are already private tutors or have experience finding students independently, where do you usually get your students? What platforms, groups, or strategies would you recommend?

I’d really appreciate any tips or recommendations. Thank you! ❤️

Why Do students do this ?

I posted some time ago about students and their low raitings on Engoo/DMM Eikaiwa. It had taken me 8 months to get from a 4.93 to finally get back up to 4.94.. This morning I had a repeat student she is quite new to the platform, the thing is there were techincal issues (I believe on her end, she uses a Ipad) I've had classes with her before with no issue and today all i saw was a grey screen (her end) and i clearly saw my camera feed from my end.

She switched to her phone and we ended up having a free conversation class with no issues after.

She gave me four stars, which brings me back to 4.93, not even 24h being at 4.94 her comments, "the problem is just because the connection" , she mentions how I'm a nice tutor and she will contact customer support"

I know tutor support wont do anything, The student says she preffers taking all future classes with me since I am always kind and the other 2 reviews have been 5 stars and saying how she feels comfortable speaking with me.

I honestly can't afford to go to a 4.92 if we have a techincal issue in the future since my bookings are always less than 70% of my open slots at 4.93

I think I am done, but will continue until I can either get set up on preply or another platform.

Question Regarding how LingoAce sends out Payment

Hello,

So I got accepted by LingoAce and I am on the verge of signing, however I have a question and concern about how they send out pay.

In the contract I don't see any mention of how pay is handled. From what I've read online, they use a service called Payoneer? I don't know anything about Payoneer but I see people mentioning it is a payed service, which put me off.

My question is if Payoneer is as off putting as it seems to me and whether payment is sent out on time and whether there are any stipulations involving pay (For example, is there a minimum amount of earned money required before pay gets sent out?).

If it matters, I am located in Canada.

Thank you!
