Chapter 1196: "The Worthless Love of Someone With a Death Wish"

Will there be a break next week? - BREAK NEXT WEEK!

Please discuss the manga here and in the theory/discussion post. Any other post will be removed until 24h after the release.

Please also remember to put the chapter number in the title for any future post talking about this chapter.

These last couple arcs were way better than I could've dreamt up man😭. Just straight up peak everywhere dude. Ace is my favorite character since my cousin let me play pirate warriors on PS3 way back when but I never actually gave the series a shot until this year and it's genuinely shaping up to be one of my favorite pieces of media of all time. I knew Ace's demise was coming but it still tore me up inside it actually went down. Excluding Skypeia, from Alabasta to Marineford it's been a crazy ride that I'm fully putting everything into. So excited to see where it goes from here.

I was reading Chapter 501 and noticed a striking connection between Byron (Entry #1 in the Sabaody Human Auction) and King Reuven of the Esperia Kingdom from Brook's Elbaph flashback:

• West Blue origin
• Musical Instruments
• Noble lineage
• Strong Face and style resemblance
• Name connection: Both are named after Romantic Era icons—Reuven after Beethoven, and Byron after the poet Lord Byron
• Mythological link (Esperia & Toroa): In The Aeneid, refugees from the fall of Troy (Troia) fled by sea to settle in Esperia ("Western Land"). Oda inverted this: after Esperia was destroyed, Reuven's bloodline fled and resettled in Toroa (Toroa / Troy).

I've never been more excited for a one piece games than this. a nice casual sanji spinoff games plus his recent development in manga, it's a good time to be sanji fan lmao.

hopefully this game will be successful enough to spawn more strawhat spinoff games, imagine a Brook rhythm game, Usopp/Franky crafting game, or Nami farming sim with weather manipulation etc etc.

i always hoped for a high quality OP fighting games like "Dragon Ball budokai tenkaichi/sparking zero", or even "Naruto ultimate ninja" series, but i don't think we'll ever get those. OP power dynamic are just to difficult to translate to proper fighting games i think. i like the "Pirate Warrior" series, but those are musou not a proper fighting games.

also for those who have played previous Kairosoft game, did they regularly update their games with new content? or they just release a game a move on to the next one? i noticed they have a lot of games on steam page, but i never played any of them.

I got ny very first tattoo today and I decided to make it something meaningful

We created this Nico Robin figure for 3D printing for our Azerama Studio Patreon community.

Love my Halloween nails! My nail tech did amazing!!

Its so sweet lmao, i feel like its my first time hearing it

Watching One Piece for the first time after being a fan of Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh, I have to say the depth of this anime is truly impressive. The story keeps getting better and better, Oda is an absolute genius. 🏴‍☠️🤝

Anybody remember the Grand Battle series? I feel like all of the games we've received even to this day none of them are as expressive as Grand Battle. That game had personality flowing through everything from the character models, stages, and even the menus. Right now Pirate Warriors 3 is my favorite One Piece game. That game is bursting with fanservice. However when I think of what a modern Grand Battle game that covers the story from the beginning to let's say Elbaf, I don't see how that's not One Piece's Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 or Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Idk, I'm not personally excited for the upcoming cooking sim, so that got me thinking about what game's I'd like to see next outside of PW5. Any other One Piece game series you'd like to see make a return?

Edit: So I looked into the developer Ganbarion and they're also behind the One Piece Unlimited games as well as World Seeker. They also did Dragonball Fusions and they're currently working on Dragonball Gekishin Squadra. It explains why Squadra looks so expressive, it's also probably why we won't see another Grand Battle game for awhile, shame.

Art my me:)

We chose the name because he has a medical condition called ehlers danlos syndrome which also occurs in humans. It causes their skin to be extra stretchy, we noticed it when we went to scruff him and the skin just kept coming. His skin stretched around 2-3 times as much as any other cat I've owned or scruffed! It also has downsides, he was born with a turned front foot and his kneescaps on his back legs slide in and out of place sometimes which will most likely need surgery in the near future.

Luffy doesn't let it slow him down he loves to parkour and bolt all around the house. He's extremely loveable and at bedtime loves to cuddle up and kneed between my wife and I. He likes to plays fetch with his favorite toys! Oh and he does flips and spins when playing with our other two cats Dibby and Tony. Also, no, Tonys name isn't for Tony Tony chopper that was a complete coincidence as we had him first.

I would love to hear from everyone else who has a pet named after a one piece character and let us know if there's a reason why you named them that!

Of Big Mom's homies, who do you prefer?

It's unique since most anime characters refer to each other by their last names.

Finally got to catch up on on latest chapters. Funny that this panel came up cause I’ve been a bit insecure and feeling down lately (mostly due to dating lol).

But this panel came up and I didn’t realize until now that becoming a supreme king is mostly about your own confidence and self esteem. Feel like this came up at a great time.

Side note, if Zoro’s sense of self is him truly believing he will be the greatest swordsman, will Sanji’s sense of self be believing he will be the world’s greatest cook?

Mine is Luffy dying / getting executed at the end of the series. People think it will happen just because it happened to Roger. It will make me hate the show

I previously made a theory that the 'first' Vander Decken might be "the man marked by flames". Since then, I've had more thoughts and I'm 99% sure he is.

Quick recap.

Introduced back in Fishman Island (the location of the last poneglyph). Vander Decken was a legendary captain who was described as going mad and killed his own crew. He was cursed by the devil and forced to wander the seas forever.

This description sounds like he was domi reversed by Imu which influenced his behaviour.

But why would Imu do that?

I believe Vander Decken's actual name is Vander D. Ecken. At some point, he angered Imu similar to Rocks.

All of this happened around 200 years ago.

This is when Fishman Island joined the WG.

This is also when the Iron Giant attacked Marijois for reasons unknown.

This also fits with Vander Decken's presumed age assuming there were 9 generations with about 30-40 years age gap between each generation. This would make him around 300 years old.

But how is he still alive?

My original theory stated that he may have received a covenant from Imu but since then I've had different thoughts. I don't think Imu would give a covenant to a non-royal let alone a D. I think they are still enemies.

I believe Vander Decken survived the initial domi reversi (we know this is possible).

Like his descendant, he is a fishman. My theory is Vander Decken is a greenland shark fishman (Vander Decken IX is a bullhead shark fishman)

Greenland sharks can live upto 500 years!

In the world of One Piece, there are characters with really old ages. E.g Jarul is about 400 years old. So this isn't far fetched.

So why has Vander Decken only started making a move in the last 20 years (at least that's when we know the poneglyph was in Fishman Island)?

Vander Decken initially sought Posiedon. Shirahoshi was born 16 years ago. Perhaps Vander Decken knows she is Posiedon and is keeping the road poneglyph away from Fishman Island to protect her or maybe there's another reason.

But how can we tie this in with what we know about "the man marked by flames"?

The man marked by flames is described by a few things:

1. He presumely has a mark or scar assuming his name is literal.

Vander Decken was likely a slave at some point similar to many other fishmen. This scar/mark is simply an altered slave mark.

2. He rides a black ship.

Vander Decken was known for his ship: the flying dutchman.

The one owned by Vander Decken IX was a fake. Remember, that ship was assumed to be the flying dutchman used by Vander Decken but never confirmed. It was also introduced after the 'fake' strawhats. Perhaps it was foreshadowing.

3. He can create whirlpools.

Vander Decken is fishman and the whirlpools are advanced fishmen karate

4. He possibly has ties to the WG.

I don't think he is working with the WG, but he has history with Imu and knows his existance.

All of this perfectly fits with Vander Decken. Just like Davy Jones, Oda will return to these legendary characters, and they will play some role in the story.

Again, I'm 99% sure he is "the man marked by flames". See my other theories that I got right:

Literally tears came out of my eyes. Ace, Whitebeard one by one. It's too much in a short time. Everyone is willing to put their life on line for Luffy from shanks,zoro,ace... . I really enjoyed this arc so much. Been watching this arc non stop for a week. One-piece is PEAKK. GARP LUFFY ACE flashbacks were so good.. I couldn't process all of the moments. "Do I deserve to be born??😭😭"

I wish Luffy could have saved Ace. but whatever LUFFY SHOULD FIND THE ONE-PIECE and live upto his dream for his brother.

A few weeks ago we started watching the live action together as I’m a big one piece fan and I wanted to see if my GF would enjoy the live action.
Just before leaving for a work trip we watched the Baratie episode where Nami leaves with Arlong. And I felt that she still wasn’t hooked into the story yet… but I was wrong

Today she texts me that she’s watching without me and got to the end of the season

We’re on FaceTime later today and she asks “is it okay if I can start season 2 before you get back?”

Well friends we have a new crew mate!
