Discussion Is there any one thing which will make you hate the series if it happens?
Mine is Luffy dying / getting executed at the end of the series. People think it will happen just because it happened to Roger. It will make me hate the show

Zoro hunts Luffy and is actually a bounty hunter
36
u/yoshidream Pirate Hunter Zoro 5h ago
This would be peak writing
21
u/wstatik 5h ago
This plot twist would wreck me. If Zoro would do this and turn Luffy into the Marines, that would be insane
19
u/MCPhoto21 5h ago
Actually if Luffy were to turn himself in almost like Roger did, I think it would be better having Zoro escort him instead of Coby.
•
u/Boo_Gatsby 4h ago
This would actually go so hard but be so sad
•
u/Driftinfoot_Malone 4h ago
Yet I’d still be mad especially if zoro was completely fine with it all happening
•
u/MCPhoto21 3h ago
It didn’t/doesn’t seem like Garp was fine with Roger, but he understood. I think that would be the case for Zoro. Especially if all of Luffy’s poison & everything else that he’s done to himself finally catches up to him.
•
u/Steveo_j8 4h ago
It’s impossible, far past the level of Kanjiro who was already insane. Everyone on the Strawhats has done so much for Luffy when any of them could have killed or jumped ship dozens of times, not to mention how much Luffy has done for them.
•

•
•
u/TheSilverHound God Usopp 2h ago
That would be pretty stupid. Because Zoro didn't have to say "For my Captain and Best Friend" when none of the Straw Hats or any straw hat associates were around.
•
u/Puzzleheaded-Okra-38 4h ago
"It's not too late, just grab my hand and we can the world better... Together. So what do you say....Celestial Dragon?"
Or better yet...
"The real one piece are the friends we made along the way"
•
u/HawaiianZoro 3h ago
Well good news cause Oda confirmed the one piece will not be the power of friendship and is in fact a tangible thing
•
u/norseplush 1h ago
Could be a piece of paper on which that is written. That is technically a tangible thing haha (really hope that will not happen though)

If chopper doesn't power up at all
•
u/coconut_dot_jpg 4h ago
I hate what they did to Monster Point. They turned it from his "Ace in the hole, might even hurt my friends but the situation is THAT desperate right now"
Into a
"I'm a big boi now"
It used to be some Eldritch unknown monstrosity that struck fear into friend and foe alike. A story element that could both save the day, while risking making things a whole lot more dangerous for the rest of the crew if timed incorrectly. Shifting Chopper into a fighter that had a true Berserker mode compared to the other members.
And ontop of that they're gonna keep his monster point that way and never give us any new points and that's gonna frustrate me a little lmao
•
u/schiffb558 4h ago
It bugs me so much that his only real power up in the timeskip proper so far is "oh I can use monster point longer"
Like, yay?
•
u/Steveo_j8 4h ago
They should have made him continue to be horrifying but controllable. Sort of like a Hulk situation where he’s not gonna kill people he knows but still isn’t Banner. I mean that’s literally what they did, that form is practically Professor Hulk from Endgame.
•
u/Trickstertrick 4h ago
after elbaph the concept of "big" changed. So chopper monster point is not so scary anymore
•
•
•
u/the_beast69 3h ago
Admirals being fodderized. I wanna see Fuji, Greenbull, Akainu, even Kizaru being pushed to their absolute limits. I feel like even Kizaru wasn't really trying his hardest against Luffy... I guess it's the portrayal of them going all out is what I need in the final war and they should still be a formidable threat, not some side villain. They used to represent the pinnacle of power and an insurmountable wall pre timeskip and they lost all that aura.
•
u/CheatsySnoops 4h ago
3 things
The other characters besides the Monster Trio don't get to do anything pivotal or awesome like in Dressrosa
There is absolutely no magic (It's all just aliens and microchips or such)
Imu being forgiven or dying gracefully like Master Xehanort did in KH3
•
u/ImuSama_X_Joyboy 4h ago
Imu dying honorably would be the biggest scam ngl Naruto lvl talk no jutsu except the villian is someone who's done shit for 800+yrs
•
u/Frosty_Warthog7217 2h ago
I personally think it could work. The devil fruit possession theory is pretty strong and still hasn’t been put to bed. Not to mention it’s kind of an anime trope for major villains to end up being good boys in the end
•
u/CheatsySnoops 1h ago
I hear that out, the problem is that it would kinda weaken the message against fascism, since it would be blamed on some other worldly force rather than impotent, malicious types seizing a broken system.
•
•
u/Present_Cow_8528 1h ago
There is absolutely no magic (It's all just aliens and microchips or such)
I mean... sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic.
I don't think it's incredibly likely to fully be explained in the pages of the manga, but I absolutely fuck with the theory that the first age was just the re-terraforming of earth after an apocalypse that sent all of the world's sentient civilizations to the various moons this planet used to have.
Like, I'm not in favor of "aliens" as the answer for One Piece, but in Naruto, if we had longer than 3 minutes to prepare for Kaguya being the big bad, her being an alien didn't suddenly invalidate all the fucking magic. It was still straight up alien magic. Likewise, even it the far future post apocalypse theory of One Piece is true, Oda won't be explaining the science to us, because there's no real world science that would cause auto-reincarnating power-bestowing fruits to be generated in the world.
Like for me, "it was just VR" would be the equivalent that would ruin the world for me. It "technically being considered scientific in universe" would be completely fine. Soft sci-fi is just fantasy for an audience that wants to dream of the impossible being possible in real life.
•
u/CheatsySnoops 1h ago edited 1h ago
I mean more of "there is no spirituality or the supernatural, just microchips and midichlorians".
Also, your "it was all VR" reminds me that I hope that KH wasn't all just virtual reality outside of one game with those animal masked guys.
•
u/AKAI-KAGE 2h ago
in my case hated the idea of them getting sperated again that's what bothers me on dressrossa I really wanted the see the gang together goin again doffy crew.
•
u/nbzoronb 3h ago
Yeah I think #1 would irritate me the most tbh. Seems like the monster trio is main focus of the strawhats nowadays and everyone else just side characters

•
u/jaumougaauco 4h ago
If one piece follows the Chinese XianXia novels, and after finding the One Piece it's revealed that the world is actually like a lower world level, and there's actually a higher world level that Luffy, after finding the one piece and passing the trial of tribulation, is now qualified to enter.
•
u/CourtForsaken3064 3h ago
So kinda like Dragon Ball Super where it's raised the stakes so high that they don't really exist beyond the main cast dying

Blackbeard teaming up with luffy to defeat imu. Blackbeard is the true villain and anti luffy so him siding with luffy would be character assassination on both ends
•
u/ImuSama_X_Joyboy 3h ago
Yess !
Ppl really want Luffy to team up with some1 who his brother wanted to hunt down due to a reason Luffy himself wouldn't stand aka "betrayal and manslaughter among crew members"
Not to mention that he too was the one due to which ace reached execution platforms
Even other than that bb and Luffy's values are so opposite that I just can't see them working together or bb getting forgiven enough to team up with Luffy like crocodile /buggy They weren't personal enemies to Luffy They were secondary and he beat them up As for bb ,he has to die or else he won't stop so Luffy beating him up and maybe the wg doing the dirty work but it's where it SHOULD end
•
•
u/CourtForsaken3064 3h ago
I think it would work if he immediately betrays Luffy and only did it to get rid of Imu and Luffy in one go
•
u/Puzzleheaded-Okra-38 4h ago
I mean it makes sense for Black read to be after IMU too. He did say he want 'The world'. And his dad described Imu as 'The World'.
So a teamwork might not be far off, but they'll probably be a betrayal coming right after.
•
u/ImuSama_X_Joyboy 3h ago
Bb may be ok with teaming up with Luffy to kill imu but hell no for Luffy He can't stand Bb's ass Bb betrayed his crew and manslaughtered a nakama Something that's completely opposite to what Luffy values as a pirate He is also freedom but his version of freedom pisses Luffy off , I'm sure
And then cherry on top ,when ace was chasing him down ,it actually led to ace being sent for execution and dying DUE to bb
Bb isn't one of those enemies that SHOULD change sides after Luffy beats him up/crushes his dream imo He's too ambitious to be tied down by defeat He'll find some other scheme to betray again
Not he is the type of person to be trusted or cooperated with before defeating him He ,like wg ,has slaves Is after ancient weapons Has continuously targeted Luffy's family and now will target friends too (wano,Shirahoshi) so yeah it WILL ruin OP for me too
•
u/Major_Kaos 3h ago
and what about Bege's backstabbing ass that he teamed up with for the greater good
•
u/ImuSama_X_Joyboy 3h ago
Again....bege WASN'T personal
Did Luffy even know?
Also pirates backstab all the time They aren't the best of people But Luffy can't prolly stand someone who betrats his own crew As a captain I think he would just feel it right in the feels as to what whitebeard felt "you killed your own brother, teach" Luffy knows ace was caught and ended up executing by chasing someone who broke the taboo rule of betraying and backstabbing own crew
•
u/Daemencer 2h ago
Blackbeard isn't a villain. He may be an antagonist to Luffy but he is not a villain. He has non-evil goals, a moral compass of his own and his character is not built around an evil cause or destruction.
•
u/Vast-Bus-3224 4h ago
If ussop doesn't get anything relevant happen to him in elbaph.
•
u/Omeistr 3h ago
This. If Oda can't properly pay off something he has been setting up for Usopp's character since Little Garden then I don't really have any faith that we will get a satisfying ending to the rest of the series. The things he's done so far with standing up to Imu and giving the speech about Luffy are great, but I need him to do something more as well. Something that actually has an effect on Elbaf. I have high hopes though considering he is currently up there with the heavy hitters against Imu
•
u/CharonCGN 4h ago
Absolutely! Elbaph hat to be his time to shine and to proof he's not just dead weight in the new world. It's already hinted by his drunken conversation with Jarul and his attack against Gunko but there has to be more

u/EiichiroTarantino 4h ago

At this point... I kind of think if Jinbe doesn't get CoC haki... Roger had both wings plus Oden with it. Also seems like no Fishman has ever had it. Ussop getting it would ruin it, but Jinbe, he deserves a power up. Luffy's crew needs atleast 4 with it, and honestly Jinbe as the leader of the Fishman resistance for so long deserves the power up.
I don't think luffy will die... if another character dies, its probably Law... as after Ace he is coolest.

Oda is forbidden of killing law by his wife, iirc

If the story ends without ever really refocusing back on the Straw Hats. I mean ALL the Straw Hats. If by the end it feels like characters like Law, Yamato, Koby, etc., were Oda's priority that would ruin so much of the series for me I don't think I could ever feel like reading it again.
9
u/orange_b0i God Usopp 5h ago
Ussopp should get a once in a series memorable moment in the final arc
•
u/norseplush 4h ago
Weaker characters (esp mugiwaras) further losing relevance and playing no role in the final part of the manga. I feel this is happening a bit already in Elbaph and I am not a fan of it

If they do anything to disrupt the golden age of piracy. The climax can be the climax, but if the ending involves the elimination of pirate freedom, similar to pirates of the Caribbean Post the original trilogy, I might despise this franchise
•
•
u/NeitherImplement3487 4h ago
I trust Oda-sensei, but I swear if we only see a war then the crew achieving their dreams in an epilogue style episode aside from luffy. That would kill it for me. I've been rooting for these character for 20 years, make sure their story get the ending they each deserve

I wouldn't be surprised if Luffy dies at the end. He keeps using the "If you do this your elimate 5 years of your lifespan" techniques.
Maybe he ascends to godhood and becomes the sun.
7
u/Crafty-Scallion-5351 5h ago
Brace yourself. Based on the patterns it is not unlikely. He time and time again put himself on vulnerable situation of long lasting health damage at the cost of power.
Gear 2, Gear 5, repetitive poison (built immunity but could also leave lasting poison damage).
It also fits his dream of being "free". He could achieve freedom while living, succumb to death (which isnt an oppression of freedom, but a natural thing), and then become free in the after life.
Luffys death also brings the Ace, Sabo, Luffy story full circle with Sabo and Luffy reuniting on the living realm while reuniting with Ace in thr after life.
And lastly like you said, thematically makes sense that Luffy and a symbolic successor to Roger faces similar fate. Joyboy hid the treasure, Roger found it but didnt have the longevity to "globalize it"***, Luffy finds it and "fulfils its destiny".
Even if Luffy doesnt directly die, its more than likely an incurable illness or heavy suggestion to soon to be death will be hinted at.
That paired with the storys exaggeration of time could mean a projected 2 years of life remaining, short for us, but Luffy will take as waaaay more than sufficient time to explore the world.

Don’t matter what happens, the journey was way too long and iconic to hate all of OP. The worst that can happen now is a bad finale similar to Naruto.

I'm all for a Luffy execution finale. That's not saying I want him to die on there though, I would hate it if he is killed but I want to see him on the platform. I would be really invested for a Luffy up there mirroring both Ace and Roger, and while Roger and ace had many allies, neither of them had even CLOSE to the amount that Luffy will have by the end.
Imagine it's almost exactly laid out like marineford, getting ready for the execution but instead of a dying legend, a bunch of idiot prisoners, one of the weaker warlords, and child Luffy coming to save him, the entire world shows up outnumbering the marines 1000 to 1, everyone from every island he visited came to stop it. And the marines would stand no chance by sheer numbers.
Hell, Luffy would have the perfect opportunity to repeat that line from Spandam up there that's something like "only an idiot would declare war on the entire world and expect to win". And unlike Ace or Roger, Luffy has the whole world behind him, even garp and Koby would completely turn at this point, and luffy would be successfully freed because he spread so much love in the world and not a single one of them would let him die because he risked his life for all of them.
•
u/MattyGWS 59m ago
If it ends with the younger generation mirroring the older generation and doing the same thing, like Koby being Luffys garp like garp is to Roger, and sanji and zoro ending up like Roger’s left and right hands, chopper ending up at the lighthouse looking after a whale or something. Like Naruto, where there’s several generations of ninja teams that are basically the same

Surprise Isekai/Surprise Aliens. (But I'm especially looking at you FMA Conquerer of Shamballa.)
Abandoning Usopp, Chopper and Franky's character arcs/still giving them nothing.
Can't say I'll be too impressed if the One Piece is some sort of reality warping/mass mind altering device. Because I suspect that if so, Luffy just destroys it and that's the end of that. Spare us all from the Atlantis tier power no mortal shall hold and thus must be destroyed.

If the Strawhats separate after finding the one piece.
They will have gone through hell, taking on the world government, every competing pirate crew (including cross guild) as well as Imu and Black Beard. There is no version where going their separate ways, would be a happy ending for them.
I want them to savor their victory, to create a home and community together. Not just call it quits when they've achieved their dreams. I want them to enjoy the one piece together.
