r/officechairs is under attack by spam artists. How we go after them next is going to be partly up to you.

Very good epp in last weeks WSJ podcast about Reddit subs and the prevalence of brands spamming subs as a way to sneak brand content into LLMs.

https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/the-journal/ai-loves-reddit-but-redditors-arent-so-sure/5695c5e0-5ee6-41e6-97fa-ac04fde0c5f4

It's happening here and we are not controlling it as well as we would like to.

Years ago it was Autonomous, we banned them for a while, engaged with them and they have been respectful of the community standards for years now.  Some brands participate here with this sub while also being respectful of the rediqute and the rules, think Steelcase, Anthros or Musso.

Now, it feels like we see quite a bit of content about Libornovo, Secretlab and ProtoArc.  Regularly, multiple accounts and posts, but similar kinds of content being inserted into the sub.

This raises questions to me.  Our r/officechairs team has been leading this sub for about 6 years.  This last 2 years, the amount of slop / promotional content has been off the charts.

When we stated moding here, u/classroom and u/cranda58 and I were able to keep up with the spam and the self promotion to a minimum. Now even with more people on the team plus the auto-mod functionality, we are just not able to keep up with it all.

Today, spammers have become very sophisticated.  It's much harder to see what is bot / spam content and its both very cheap and potentially very profitable for them to attack this sub with their slop of nonsense.

What are brands you notice that seem to be over represented here lately?

How aggressive do you want this sub to be moderated?

There were 800 posts and 6300 comments in the last 30 days.  Normally, the mod team will not see all of the posts and only a small fraction of comments, so if your goal is to slip some slop into the LLMs, it can be done quietly.

The nuclear option would be for us to require new posts to be affirmatively approved by a mod before they hit the sub.  One of us would really see if there were 50 Libornova posts every week and act accordingly.  It would be a more curated sub but it would also be more resistant to marketers efforts.  A less aggressive option would be to use mod tools to pause mentions of those brands that we suspect are being the most aggressive lately while engaging them to make sure their future communications here are within the bounds.

If you want to see what un-moderated looks like, my social experiment r/officechairsIsell is based on the idea that if you give folks the ability to post whatever they want, a chairs sub will become garbage.

Its our sub to use so please, what do you, the subscribers want to see us doing about this problem that is impacting the quality of what we have here?

Chair Saga Cont. : Aeron Remastered vs. Embody

TL;DR: Stuck between the Herman Miller Aeron (Size C) and the Embody. Looking for advice from fellow tall/heavy sitters (6'0", 200 lbs) who deal with short seat pans and sit-bone pain. I work from home so I spend 8ish hours in this chair daily. I do have a standing desk, which I should probably use more…

My Chair History:
• Branch Verve: Looked great, but immediate sit-bone pain.
• Steelcase Karman Highback: Absolutely gorgeous, she really is that girl and the flexible back is everything, but the seat pan was too shallow (sigh).
• Fractal Refine 2 - Mesh: I really wanted to like this chair. But is it so aggressively upright that it felt like I was almost being pushed forward out of the seat, the recline even with the least amount of tension was a bit stiff to push back and felt like my abs were engaged anytime I was using it. Also the recline lock was nice with so many intervals - but I couldn’t rock with the recline locked. Honestly I should write an entire post on this chair as there is barely any info on it. Oh, I also almost broke my ankle getting the 75lb box down the stairs…
• Aeron (Original Size B): Mesh is great for my sit-bones, but the rigid frame digs into my thighs.

Yes I know I am Goldilocks.

The Dilemma:
I recently tested the Aeron Remastered (Size C) and the Embody Gaming Chair.
• Embody: Super comfortable seat when fully extended, and I love the flexible back. However, I'm worried about online reports of it becoming uncomfortable after a few hours, I spent about an hour sitting on it in the store. How inflated is the worry truly?
• Aeron Size C: No thigh pain thanks to the larger seat pan, and I know the mesh works for me. But the back is very rigid compared to the Embody and unsure if the thigh pain might creep back after a few hours of sitting.

Other Factors:
• Cats: My cat hasn't been able to destroy the Aeron mesh, but I'm worried she might shred the Embody. I will keep it covered if I must, but, ugh.
• Color: Who doesn’t want a little pop of color? But the Aeron is timeless…

I was initially thinking of the Embody Gaming graphite/nightfall/nova but the newly released graphite/amethyst is speaking to me vs Aeron Remastered Gaming

What do you all think? I know how subjective it is, and the Aeron vs Embody debate is long and storied (and boring?). Maybe I am just venting, because few people (other than those on this sub) truly understand how deep and detailed we can get on the discussion of office chairs… As I told Alicia, the lovely SA at the Herman Miller store in Greenwich “I am deep into office chair discourse, it’s a problem.”

Is this posture correct?

Post image

I’m trying to buy an ergonomic chair, but I honestly know NOTHING about them and it’s been a tiring journey. Today I visited a store and I found this chair that felt really good especially the lumbar support. However, I felt a little uncomfortable with the headrest and the salesperson tried to help me find the “perfect” posture but I don’t know if the headrest is supposed to be in that position or not.

Haworth Zody (€345) vs Steelcase Amia (€466) refurbished

I want to buy an ergonomic chair and I've decided that I will buy a refurbished or second hand chair such that I can afford a premium one. I am currently thinking about either a Haworth Zody or a Steelcase Amia.

I live in Romania and I have not seen any people or companies close to me selling these chairs, so I looked at companies delivering from other parts of Europe and I've found Offeco, a company from the Netherlands selling refurbished chairs. They have the Zody at 345€ and the Amia at 466€. Do you think the Amia is worth 120 euros more? Also are these prices good for refurbished chairs and if not, do you have any other suggestions of where I could buy one of these chairs with delivery to Romania?

Anyone has this problem Steelcase Leap v2?

The backrest is slanted on the right side which quite noticeable pushes my left side more up and my right side more in, which beats the purpose of an ergonomic chair.

Just wondering if anyone has this same problem or how to fix it? If fixable at all.

Sihoo C300 Review

I ordered this chair because I desperately needed a new office chair and kept getting ads for this one. After reading some reviews, I was cautiously optimistic because the main complaints about it were things I didn't care much about (i.e., the chair makes some noise and the armrests move too easily).

Well, the chair arrived, I assembled it without much trouble, sat in it, and then the problems began. To make a long story short, I think this chair has every single design choice I would not make in a chair. If you remove every single feature of the chair, minus the fact that you can sit on it, it becomes an okay chair.

Forget about the armrests, the lumbar support, which is the main feature of the chair in the marketing material, just digs into your back and pushes you away from the seat not matter what height you set the backrest at. The backrest itself moves along with the lumbar support, so you can't adjust either one independently if the back/headrest is also at an uncomfortable height, which is ironic given how much the marketing emphasizes the adjustability of the chair. After a few hours of sitting, my lower back hurts, which is the complete opposite point of the lumbar support. Additionally, the spring system means that you cannot lock the support in any position and you always feel resistance on your lower back, which likely explains the pain I have after just a few hours.

The headrest is practically just decoration until you actually lean back fully in the chair, which I doubt most people are doing if they are actualy working at their desk using a mouse and keyboard.

The mesh material is breathable and has some give, but becomes incredibly uncomfortable both in texture and in how well it actually holds your body in the seat and on the backrest.

All in all, I would not recommend this chair to absolutely anyone. The $30 dining chair I had been using up until I received the Sihoo Doro C300 is more comfortable. I deeply regret this purchase and I will be returning it.

Steelcase is $150 pre-owned, Herman Miller is $150 pre-owned, Dexley is $170 new, and for a bonus Allsteel is $50 pre-owned but has mystery damage. I'm 5'10 260 and I'm currently using a small cat condo as a chair. I'm trying to find stuff on the cheap end. I looked at FB and there are no hidden gem Herman Millers or Steelcase.

Does the Lamia have less seat depth options?

Basically the title of the post. I keep reading that the leap v2 seat system will allow you to slide the deph to anywhere you like. While the Lamia i got right now pretty much has three locked settings which is not particularly optimal because it's basically or super close to the back rest or very far. Also takes a lot of power to move it backwards to the point that i have to lock it against my desk to move it.

Anyone has more information about that?

ps: i know its a lever mechanism, but if i dont put it in specific points it wont go down.

Steelcase Leap V2 cushion replacement in Canada

My Leap V2 chair seat cushion is now uncomfortable to sit in as I feel the frame with my butt. I'm looking at replacing the seat cushion, and unfortunately Crandall and BTOD will not ship to Canada. From my research, that leaves OfficeLogix but I saw some bad reviews saying there's no improvement, and with the shipping, brokerage fees and 25% tariff, it's going to be very expensive for me. Wondering if anyone has any luck sourcing a refurb/new cushion from Steelcase, or any other option like reupholstering to get some more life out of the chair? The rest of the chair works fine it's just the cushion that's the problem. My next step would be to sell the chair and get a new one but wanted to see if I can save it first. I'm in the Toronto area, if that helps.

Would the LiberNovo Maxis work for my pregnant wife

Hi all. I’m trying to find a good chair for my wife, who is four months pregnant with our second child. She works from home as a freelancer and spends around seven hours at her desk most days. During her first pregnancy, her old chair became pretty uncomfortable once her belly got bigger. The backrest seemed to catch her in the wrong place, and sitting all day put more strain on her lower back. I’d rather get ahead of that this time and find her something sturdier with better support.

I’m considering the libernovo maxis airflow right now. A lot of owners seem to like the recline, and I could see that being useful when she needs to take some pressure off her back. My concern is the size. She’s 5’10”, which is right at the bottom of the height range listed on their website.

When figuring out whether the chair will fit her, what should we pay the most attention to? Seat depth, lumbar placement, or the height and width of the backrest? I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone around her height who has spent some time in the Maxis.

Sihoo c300 pro v2 - Just marketing?

Hello people of r/OfficeChairs ,

I'm considering buying a new ergonomic chair. My use case is mostly work(5-8hrs) + occasional movie/gaming(not p0).
I am 6ft tall and weigh about 240lbs. For the love of god I am not able to find a chair that works for me without selling my kidney.
I checked out Sihoo doro c300 pro v2, Hbada E3 pro. These look straight up like a scam because all the reviews online are just paid marketing and can't trust them. Other options are HM Aeron Size C or steelcase leap v2, which cost like 2k.

Please help me buy a chair that fit me and is comfortable, preferable under $500.

Thanks a lot!

Green Soul Jupiter Pro vs The Sleep Company Onyx — or is there a better ergonomic chair on Amazo/Flipkar sales?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a solid ergonomic chair for 8–10 hours of daily WFH/gaming (Height: [Insert], Weight: [Insert] kg).

My budget is around ₹8k–₹12k, and I've shortlisted two options:

  1. Green Soul Jupiter Pro (Molded foam seat, seat-depth slider, 4D arms, 3-year warranty)
  2. The Sleep Company Onyx (SmartGRID seat)

For anyone who owns either:

  • Does the Jupiter Pro’s foam sag or flatten over time?
  • Is the SmartGRID on the Onyx actually good for long hours, or just marketing hype?
  • How is the after-sales/warranty support for both brands?
  • Are there better alternatives in this price bracket (e.g., Featherlite, Sihoo, Kepler Brooks, etc.)?
  • Any solid ergonomic chair deals on Amazo or Flipkar right now that are worth checking out instead?

Would love to hear your suggestions before I pull the trigger. Thanks

Did anyone else struggle this much assembling their first office chair?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Finally got this chair put together. Took me almost an hour, which was a lot longer than I expected.

It's my first time assembling an office chair, and I'm definitely not great with tools. I figured the instructions would walk me through everything, but some of the diagrams just left me scratching my head.

I kept going back and forth between the manual and the actual parts, trying to figure out which piece went where. Half the time I wasn't even sure if I was doing things right, so I'd stop and double-check before moving on.

This picture was taken while I was still putting it together. I got there eventually, but by the end I was pretty fed up with the whole process.

How long did your first chair take? Was it the instructions that slowed you down, or did you run into something else?

Looking for a good chair

Budget around 500€

Need a good lumbar support, so Steelcase Gesture or any other Chair from them is already out. Can not try or buy a Herman Miller.

Just bought the Fractal Refine 2 and that Chair was the worse Chair I had because of the waterfall on the seat towards the backrest. I thought my spine will pop out with so much pressure.

Hands on review of the Odinlake L3

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I received the OdinLake L3 FlexBreath after being selected as a tester through a giveaway on this sub-reddit. The chair was provided for free for me to use, make an honest review, and keep afterward. I've now spent about three weeks using it, with considerably more sitting time than a typical office worker. I've also spent time sitting in chairs from Herman Miller, Humanscale, and Steelcase, and I currently own the Steelcase Gesture with a headrest pictured alongside the L3. Overall, my experience has been positive, but there are a few things worth knowing before buying it.

Comfort & Seating Experience

The standout feature for me is the overall comfort. The mesh seat and backrest distribute my weight evenly, and I haven't noticed any pressure points even after sitting for hours. More importantly, the chair hasn't aggravated my lower back or neck. At first, I didn't really care about the breathability of the full mesh design, but after last week's heat wave, I definitely appreciated it a lot more and was thankful I was reviewing this chair. The headrest has been one of my favorite parts. It has plenty of adjustment, so I can get it right where I need it to support my neck. I also have an athletic build, and the seat pan is wide enough that I never feel cramped or confined while sitting in it.

Build Quality & Component Mass

One of the first things I noticed while unboxing the chair was the weight of some of the components. The backrest and armrest assemblies have a surprisingly dense and heavy feel to them. While weight alone doesn't guarantee long term durability, the heft of these components gives a good initial impression of the build quality. I still can't really comment on true long term durability or warranty experience, but nothing so far has changed my initial impression.

Ergonomics & Controls

The areas where I found the chair less impressive were mostly related to the controls and armrests. The lumbar tension dial is located on the rear exterior spine of the backrest, so you have to get out of the chair to make an adjustment. That makes it difficult to adjust the tension while actually sitting in the position you're trying to dial in. The recline tension knob is also located under the seat, which I found less convenient than the rest of the adjustments.

The armrests are a bigger issue for me. They don't lower far enough to let my arms rest naturally at my sides, so I have to slightly flare my arms and shoulders outward to rest on them. Because I already have a rotator cuff issue from lifting weights, this position causes noticeable discomfort around that area. I also wish the arms had more articulation. This is one area where I've gotten used to my Steelcase Gesture, since its arms give me a lot more freedom to position them exactly where I want them. I don't expect the L3 to copy the Gesture, but having more range of movement would make a noticeable difference for me. The armrests can also flip back and completely out of the way, which is a feature I appreciate. It gives me the option to move them aside when I don't need them, although I still wish they could go lower and had a little more articulation when I do want to use them.

Assembly & the Modular Base

Another area worth mentioning is the assembly. The L3 uses a 5 star base that arrives in separate pieces, requiring you to attach each leg to a central hub using two M6x12 screws. While ten steel M6 bolts provide plenty of raw shear strength on paper, the modular assembly introduces a potential issue because of the included tool. The small L shaped hex key can get the screws completely tight, but doing so requires a lot of force because there isn't much leverage. In my case, putting that much force into such a small tool noticeably aggravated my rotator cuff, and I could see this being difficult for someone with a similar shoulder issue. Even though the screws come with pre applied blue threadlocker, the joint still needs to be properly tightened for it to do its job. Without enough torque, repeated rolling and shifting could allow the legs to micro flex and potentially loosen over time. I was able to get everything tight with the included hex key, but it took considerably more effort than it should have. I would recommend using a socket ratchet with a hex bit and a longer handle, which gives you more leverage and makes tightening all ten bolts much easier.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I've enjoyed using the L3 and think it gets the most important part right: it's a comfortable chair that I can spend a lot of time in. Most of my criticisms come down to the armrests, control placement, and the extra effort needed during assembly rather than the actual sitting experience. Having spent a lot of time with high end ergonomic chairs, I came into this test with a decent idea of what I personally look for in a chair. There are definitely a few things I would change, but my overall experience with the L3 has been really positive.

My Rating Summary

Pros:

- Outstanding mesh comfort and breathability

- Plenty of headrest adjustment

- Heavy, dense backrest and armrest assemblies

- Comfortable for extended sitting

- Has not aggravated my lower back or neck

- Armrests can flip completely out of the way

- Wide seat pan

Cons:

- Armrests do not lower enough for my natural arm position

- Less armrest articulation than I would like

- Armrest position aggravates my rotator cuff during extended use

- Rear mounted lumbar tension control is inconvenient to adjust

- Recline tension control is located under the seat

- Included hex key requires a lot of force to fully tighten the modular base

Plastic office chairs with no upholstery at all?

Hi,

are there any plastic comfortable office chairs with no upholstery at all? I had leather/fake leather fail after some time and during hot summers I like to chill without t-shirt and don't want fabric to absorb all the sweat.

I found Sedus se:motion but looking for other options as well.

Office chair hurting the bottom of my thighs. What should I do?

I bought an ergonomic office chair, it gives me great posture and everything and I no longer get back pain when sitting down, which is wonderful. It is also quite adjustable.

However, the bottom/cushion is kind of firm and hurts the bottom of my thighs.

I don't know the brand, sorry.
