This is community history. Fight me.
I bought this jewelry from Gracie’s Vintage, a local shop that’s been around for 10ish years. Luckily, the sunlight hit my hand just right as I was taking the picture.
Nothing monumental. But imagine finding this photo 50 years from now, alongside thrift store hauls, flea market finds, handmade creations, and random things people spotted around town.
We put so much of our everyday lives on the internet, but how much of it will actually survive? Posts get buried, accounts disappear, websites shut down. Whole little pieces of our communities could vanish into the void.
It’s got me thinking about a community record built by ordinary people, documenting the things that catch their attention. Not just landmarks and historic events, but the little moments that show what life was like in a particular place and time.
Would you contribute to something like that? If history belongs to the people who lived it, who gets to decide which moments count?
