Now that these are to become permitted development does anyone know if it will be feasible to actually get one of these put in? Like many (most?) people in Norwich I do not have my own driveway. I have an EV but cannot charge it at home because the council will not allow a gully to be cut.
The on-street charger is useless here, one is in the car club bay and the other is always blocked by another vehicle, often not an EV (but if it was another EV I still couldn't use it).
Other councils have successful schemes running, Norwich has refused to do it, I think they want to try to force everyone on to using the on street chargers so they can make money from those, but those don't work here as I've said.
Several of us in the street have EVs it's not just me; parking is at a premium and there is never realistically going to be the option of one car finishes charging, moves further down the street so another car can take the charging space (the street is rightly one-way which makes it harder too). Plus the charger is at the back of the bay, my socket is at the front of the car and the (standard CCS) cable almost doesn't reach I have to dangle it precariously to make it fit even backing right up to the edge of the bay marking.
Will the change to permitted development status now force the council to allow these gullies to be cut, obviously to standards/in compliance with regs that's fair enough? I imagine it could make a big difference to the many people in Norwich with EVs but unable to charge them at home.
(I work odd hours so can basically always park outside my house as when I'm coming back everyone else is off at work; not everyone is as lucky and I realise that).
