New Info Introducing Scopely Explore

Last year, we welcomed the Niantic games team behind Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and companion apps Campfire and Wayfarer to Scopely.

As these games continue to flourish as part of the Scopely portfolio, we are introducing a new name for the team: Scopely Explore.

The name reflects a mission that has guided these teams from the very beginning.

Exploration sits at the heart of these games and experiences, and the communities they serve. Whether encouraging players to discover new places, connect with others, or experience the world in new ways, this team has always been united by a belief that there is more to explore.

Scopely Explore is not a separate company or subsidiary. It is a mission-driven team within Scopely. Like all of the experiences in our portfolio, these games and products are developed and published by Scopely.

Scopely Explore will continue building experiences that inspire people to get outside, connect with one another, and explore the world together for many years to come as part of Scopely.

Over the coming weeks, you will see the Niantic name begin to evolve across platforms to Scopely Explore.

Discussion Why don't they ban bad reviewers?

This is something I've been wondering for a while. Yesterday, I reported more than 20 pokestops in a neighborhood that were obviously AI-generated. you didn't even need to zoom in to tell, so the reviewers knew very well they were fake. Sometimes, the locations didn't even match the map (skyscrapers in a rural area lol), so even if they couldn't tell the wayspots were AI, they still accepted dozens of Wayspots in the wrong locations. They always ban the submitter, but never the people who accept the slop.

Discussion When to reject for inaccurate location vs just move the location manually when reviewing?

• Upvotes

If you can tell where the location should actually be, do you always move it? I generally will always move it if I can tell where the actual location is, although sometimes it is off by an egregious amount in a fairly obvious attempt to get a couch spot. Would you reject this for a bad location, or just move the location and approve (given it met criteria?)

Question Can’t see my “In voting” nominations on the map

Hi everyone! I’m using the Wayfarer Map Mod plugin. It shows my rejected nominations on the map, but my nominations that are currently In voting or In Queue don’t appear.

Does the script support nominations that are in voting or in queue? Or is it only able to show accepted/rejected ones? Is there a setting I’m missing, or could the map data be outdated?

Question Reported fake wayspot, rejected?

I have someone in my area who submits fake wayspots around their home for objects that, when I go to the area and investigate it myself and in person, are clearly not real and not there. Obviously they are also not on google maps. Previously, I've been able to report fake spots and have them removed.

With a recent one, however, when I report it even with photo evidence of the area and its non-existence and a brief text writeup that the object doesn't exist, I've been getting back responses from the Wayfarer system that my report was "rejected." What do you do in this situation, am I missing something that would give the report validity? Do you just keep reporting in the hopes that you eventually break through the automated system? Does a fake stop need a certain number of reports before it would be removed? Or do you just let cheaters be, and enjoy their fake stop?

Question Looking for suggestions

I would love to get a pokestop by my house, however, I live in a midwest subdivision within an HOA that does not allow for little free libraries. I also do not have any utility boxes near the property. There is a public wooded area behind my house.

Do you have any suggestions on things I could buy / build that I could nominate for a pokestop? Thanks!

Discussion Trailmarkers in Germany

Dears,

I've seen a lot of submissions recently that make me a bit undecissive.

In Germany, there's a variation of markers for official trails.

- They can come as big shields like street signs (rarely)

- They can come as small shields which can be attached to street signs, posts etc and have a sticker on them to show which of the various regional trails are market.

And then there's the kind I'm unsure about.

Official wandering societies in Germany (Wandervereine or e.V.) use stickers to mark trails when there's no other choice to place a marker. On thick lamp posts and such.

Those stickers mark official trails which can be found and tracked online. They are specific for their route. They are placed by the official societies.

But the "permanence" is the question I have.

In Germany there are people who are caring for those markers. Even the stickers. One is not there anymore? It gets replaced.

Still, in the end it's a sticker.

How strickt should we be with those markers?

Submission Feedback Appeal or redo

I live in a rural area so not a huge number of places like museums or such. However, lots of local businesses that are historic, some are already pokestops. That's just background for why I am trying to submit this business.

Yadkin Valley Ford is the oldest Ford dealership in both North and South Carolina and it is still owned by the family that started the business. They started in 1915 and instead of displaying current models in the showroom, they display several classic cars. The oldest is a 1910 Ford Roadster and they have a 1915 Model T that the family has owned since the 50's. They welcome visitors to view the cars.

I'm including both photos I submitted of the location, showing it is safe to access. I also submitted photos of a couple of the cars.

Any advice on getting this approved? Because I know a business can be approved if it meets criteria.

Submission Feedback Should I bother with doing another submission with this spot?

I don't see how this isn't permanent or distinct? Sign is next to Dome where the pin point is, took supporting photos of neighbouring shops as proof of its location. And has been there every time I visit this shopping centre.

I want second opinions on this as I am usually good with Shopping Centre submissions. Is there any way I can improve or I just got unlucky with a voter that was too lazy to look at Google maps with the supporting photos? 🤷

Submission Feedback Swimming Pool not accepted?

I recently nominated this pool as a pokestop and it was not accepted.

I mainly had 2 questions regarding this

  1. I had also recently nominated a different place as a pokestop and it was rejected, although I understood why that got rejected, but now having 2 pokestops being rejected in 2 weeks, does this put me at a risk of getting banned somehow?

  2. Why was this swimming pool rejected? It is inside my apartment complex and I submitted multiple pictures of the surroundings with the pool in it.

I know this is a common question on this sub, but I would really like some insight. Thank you.

Discussion Wayspotters Episode 247

This week, Chris and Jamal are back with a simple question: What if fixing one email could eliminate one of the biggest sources of confusion in Wayfarer?

Jamal has redesigned the Wayfarer acceptance email, and he's got some free, unsolicited advice for Scopely Explore. Instead of leaving nominators wondering why their newly accepted Wayspot hasn't appeared in Pokémon GO, why not tell them upfront whether it's eligible to appear in the game? Chris weighs in on the idea, the potential engineering challenges, and whether a little more transparency could make a big difference.

Then things get personal. Have you ever been so frustrated with Wayfarer that you wanted to put your phone down and walk away? From questionable rejections and endless voting queues to AI-generated nominations and suspicious Wayspot removals, Chris and Jamal discuss what drives them crazy. But more importantly, they explore what keeps them coming back, how their motivations have changed, and why helping others discover and improve their communities still makes it all worthwhile.

Also in this episode:

  • The News: Chris discovers a Wayfarer draft bug that could put your nomination pin in the wrong location.
  • Coming Next Week: A brand-new segment, This Week on the Forum, bringing community discussions and announcements to listeners who aren't active on the forums.
  • One's Gotta Go: Rocket Battles, GO Battle League, Routes, or Showcases. Which Pokémon GO feature would you eliminate forever?
  • Wayspot of the Week #1: Monica.exe celebrates her first accepted Wayspot, The Chumley House in Fort Worth, Texas!
  • Wayspot of the Week #2: LFromSpace shares Happy Camper Wilderness, a colorful camper-themed art installation at Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
  • Coal of the Week: Jan MK brings us a Little Free Library nomination that practically announces its own K–12 eligibility problem.
  • Plus: Chris becomes "Grisk," Jackson dominates lacrosse camp, Jamal wants to deduct gas for Wayspot nominations, and a little debate about roller coasters.

Whether you're frustrated with the system, excited about your latest acceptance, or just looking for another reason to get out and explore, this episode reminds us why we started contributing to Wayfarer in the first place.

Discussion Where there sync issues recently?

My Pokestop hasnt been up in game for over 2 days, but it's at an empty cell and even shows in an empty cell on the wayfarer site map (with plugins). Not in game though. Is there a sync issue?

Question A waystop for every activity in a park is overkill, surely?

Clarification for the PoGo players that don't use Wayfarer :

No, these aren't all pokestops, they share the same grid, only one can be a Pokestop. I'm not the grinch, denying some 12 year old a pokeball.

Just trying to work out if this would be considered abuse or not, so deferring to the experts here so I can be better in the future.

Every attraction in this playground seems to have a wayspot, is this OK?

Edit : Thanks for all the hate for asking a question!

And here's the criteria saying that multiple attractions in the same Playground aren't valid :

Discussion Inconsistent system review

What is the deal with the system being inconsistent in review? I live on a military base where each neighborhood is marked by a large stone sign. Over half of them are already pokestops (not submitted by me).

I submitted the last 3 and one of them was approved and then voted on and is now a pokestop, and the other two rejected by the auto review. These signs are all identical with the only different being the neighborhood name, the backgrounds match also. I based my title/photo/description off the existing stops.

Is there a trick to getting this sort of thing approved?

Question Is it possible for this to be turned into a pokestop or gym?

Thumbnail

A couple months ago I submitted this nomination in hopes it would be turned into a pokestop or gym, but they added it as a Dynamax/MP spot instead. It doesn’t always appear in game though. Is it even possible for it to be upgraded to a pokestop or gym now? I really just am curious because I thought it would make for really cool gifts to send to my friends haha.

Question Wayfarer pros, this noob needs your help 😭

Okay guys, I could really use some help here. I’ve wanted the Wayfarer platinum medal for a while, but I never touched Wayfarer because I kept hearing people say your Pokémon GO account could get banned for reviewing nominations. Around 1–2 weeks ago, I found out that reviewing itself doesn’t get your account banned, so I decided to grind for the medal. It requires 1,500 agreements, and I’ve reviewed around 1,559 nominations in the last 8–9 days.

When I first started, I reviewed around 40–60 nominations and checked back a couple of days later. Out of those, 42 had been accepted and 1 was rejected. Most of the nominations I’ve reviewed recently were graffiti, cafés, parks and restaurants, so I’m hoping a good number of them get accepted. But how long does it usually take for reviews to turn into agreements? Are we talking weeks or months, and what’s the average acceptance rate these days?

I did some searching before posting, but most of the information I found was pretty old, and I’m not sure how relevant it is to the current system. Would really appreciate some insight from people who have been doing Wayfarer for a long time. How long should I expect to wait before seeing the results of these 1,500+ reviews?
