Megathread CGNET just revealed their internet plans. What are your thoughts on this?
17
u/captainright1 Jun 01 '21
Will switch as soon as they come to my area. Time to plug off overpriced isp. they are lacking iptv as of now - otherwise excellent price.
my monthly usages is barely 600gb. FUP is enough and transparent.

Agree with you there. WorldLink had cheap fiber plans when they rolled out too. Now look at them, they keep increasing speeds while also increasing the prices. No doubt, CG NET will follow that same path. Every ISP is looking to build up trust and user base initially. After that, fuck all. When you control a significant portion of the market share, why would you offer it cheap? Sincerely hope, I get proven wrong though.
Also, can't find any details on who they peer with and lease internet lines from. If it's like
VianetClassicTech, pirate sites may not work. If it's like WorldLink, they may not be blocked and work without any hiccups.11
u/De_Chubasco Jun 01 '21
Even if they do that, they have already changed how the economy of internet plans will work. I just admire them for doing this. This already pushes other internet companies in do or die situation. It's good for customers.
5
u/Fantastic-Wrongdoer6 Jun 01 '21
yes, it might change the scene of isp. Either the current internet companies have to give their users some good deals or better services. Else the users will leave them slowly.
1
u/HymnFrenzy Jun 01 '21
I havent had problem pirating with vianet... any specific site you cant access?
1
u/onetytwenty Jun 01 '21
Not me. Seems like I mixed up ClassicTech with Vianet (brain fart) from this post. https://redd.it/n0w5kj
Looks like it's not an issue, my bad.

They also make really crappy electronics. I don't trust them.
6
u/im_alright_ma भूपू गजेंडी Jun 01 '21
Well if you're vacuuming shit out of your commode, and using your TV as a painting canvas, they're crappy. But they don't make the electronics themselves, and considering their cheap pricing, they're not that bad. I own 3 CG appliances (vacuum, water heater, air purifier) - they're all OK.

I own 3 CG appliances (vacuum, water heater, air purifier) - they're all OK.
I owned 3 CG applicances (TV, Washing machine, refrigerator). TV was overpriced for what it offered and washing machine broke in 1 year and no one can repair it because it is a shitty brand. Refrigerator broke in 2 fucking months and they won't replace it. FUCK CG.
1
u/im_alright_ma भूपू गजेंडी Jun 01 '21
Get LG. Distributed by CG, of course.
2
u/handsomejack777 Gokul Baskota was born in Nepal. Jun 01 '21
Pretty sure CG = LG but export quality for 3rd world
6
Jun 01 '21
Do people remember the old "Meromobile 1paisa offer"? They basically did it to gain marketshare from NTC when they were new. I assume this is a similar play from CG. Still good though, if nothing else there is more competition!
1
u/junsui833 Jun 01 '21
So were Ripple laptops.
10
u/ProudNefoli High on selroti Jun 01 '21
comparing cg with ripple. that dont sound like a fair comparison to me.
3
u/kiranJshah Jun 01 '21
No! They were not. This should be one of the most cheapest broadband in the world
2
Jun 01 '21
This IS the cheapest broadband in the world. I mean i live in india, and i pay like 500 for 75mbps no cap nothing connection unlimited, and i thought that i had it for dirt cheap, but this is something else. Im curious how they are pulling it off though, since internet in nepal mostly comes from India itself.
1
u/kiranJshah Jun 01 '21
Apparently Ukraine has it cheaper. Also it is Introductory offer and the terms and conditions says it is subject to change. At this rate. This is like less then half the cost of the competition out there. I guess its gonna get more expensive in the future. Only thing different about CG is that they are a big conglomerate, its chairman binod chaudari is the only billionaire in nepal. But they haven't said anything on why it is cheaper.
1
Jun 01 '21
were? what happened?
6
u/junsui833 Jun 01 '21
I meant their prices. When they first revealed it. It was too good to be true but later it comes out to be true.
3
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
Looks like you need to pay additional fees for router and I think the cost of cable is also not included.
6
14
u/usernameherchhas Jun 01 '21
I believe this is mostly to generate hype as it's only available in and around Jaulakhel area. Also, it's just an introductory price and will most likely be increased at wider launch. That being said, even if the prices get increased by 100%, this will be a better deal than all other isps. So, I'm getting this in Jan 2022 when my connection expires (if it's available ie)

FUP Policy here
6
Jun 01 '21
Omg. I was worried about FUP at first. My average data consumption per month is around 300 GB so far so this looks very good indeed. I have one month left on my vianet 1 year plan.
It looks like I can save 10k+ on this.
What is CG's coverage like?
4
u/nepalien Jun 01 '21
It's available around Jhamel area currently.
1
Jun 01 '21
To be clear, you mean jhamsikhel?
Is there a list or a map of coverage?

FUP Policy fucks at the end. 10% of Original is 1.2MBPS if that doesn't get fluctuate it would be very nice to have.
I hope CG will maintain. I wish.
Correction: 12MPBS

I agree, Worldlink always fucks me up in-game because of its high ping connection. But it's the best/reliable one around in comparison to others. I will switch in a heartbeat if the ping is good with CG.
7
7
u/Amitpaudel03 Jun 01 '21
It's 12 Mbps btw.
5
u/nepalien Jun 01 '21
I always get confused. Isn't 1 MBps = 8 Mbps?
That means 120 Mbps = 15 MBps. Or did I just screw up again?
3
1
u/isepterian Jun 02 '21
Not BTW, Its FYI 12 to 15 MBPS
1
u/Amitpaudel03 Jun 02 '21
I don't know what you are trying to say. I just replied to the above comment that 10% of 120 Mbps is 12 Mbps not 1.2 Mbps as he had mistakenly written (he has put the correction as well). I know 120 Mbits/s is 15 MBytes/s.

u/sulu1385 Jun 01 '21
This is great because the more competition we have the better it is..
For now, i will stick with Worldlink and wait for the reviews of this CG Net, if it has amazing reviews then i might check it out absolutely

same. quite happy with worldlink. if CGNET reviews are good, might switch.

mate, i play Forza Horizon 4 (no ping data but connects to EU server), Rocket League (avg 80 ping middle east server) on Xbox One S and play World Of Tanks Blitz on iPad and PC avg 100 ping (connects to Singapore server). XBox does have Asia based server (my xbox network tests pings about 21ms only), but many games have server hosted in different region.
i'm streaming, video calls (more since i'm now working from home), i'm a software developer. sometimes i have to be remotely connected to server for working.
i'm only on 30mbps which is sufficient enough to stream sub 4k streams. i don't use worldlink's ONU wifi since it mostly sucks for my use cases. i have my own Netgear router which is miles better.
if you are tech savy enough, debug where you connection bottleneck is and ping issues are then try and call them to fix. or i just found to be on that sides where my internet is fairly good.
1
u/Remarkable-Weight670 Jun 03 '21
That's it? With my classic tech ct, I get 32ms latency in middle east in rocket league, i remember 2 years ago when rocket league had no middle east server and only singapore server and back then I used to get 88-90ms. I'd say Valorant is the best way to see check pings, Classic tech is very weird, sometimes I get 32ms in Mumbai whilr sometimes I get 50-60-70ms World link is very inconsistent, I go to my cousins house and it seems like they're living in the 2010s, so fucking slow, data caps, bad customer service while the other cousin of mine gets good ping
1
u/sam19113 Jun 03 '21
32ms is nice. i remember my friend connecting vianet around my neighbourhood when i was playing WOTBlitz i used to get 100 and he used to get 80ms pings.
the best ping i have in Rocket League is 60ms or so. my avg is usually in 80s sometimes 130 when pooled around other asian players. i'm on Rocket League Xbox One version.

u/YetaiChu Jun 01 '21
I also get proper bandwidth most of the time from wlink. There are rare occurrences of packet loss but it goes away after an hour.

u/only_for_rnepal Jun 01 '21
I have been using Vianet (45mbps) for some time now, and i think it is a decent plan. Vianet also has an excellent customer service. Also the internet speed hardly falls below advertised.
I pay approx 1550 per month. Vianet also has the better FUP plan in Nepal with monthly FUP capped at around 1TB.
Now comparing CGNET to Vianet: I am getting 120Mbps ( 3x speed) at 1000 per month (30%) less. Also the FUP has increased to 1.9TB per month.
If they provide a good customer service and are reliable, then i guess i will switch.
So, how is CGNET able to provide this offer? This at the moment sounds too good to be true.
6
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
Online games are unplayable in vianet though. Ping spikes to 250ms during peak even if nobody else at home is using it.
3
u/only_for_rnepal Jun 01 '21
I don't play online games, so i don't know much about that. I do stream sport, and it is quite stable if i am connected to a legal one.
1
u/mokshya2014 Jun 01 '21
you should check if the problem is because of the router or vianet themselves. check ping using command prompt with wifi then check with wired connection.
1
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
The ping spikes are not consistent though. It occurs at random times of the day. Its stable during early morning and night, but worst during mid day and also at random times, but it doesn't stay like that 24/7. This tells me it's the isp issue. If it were my network devices fault, it would lag all the time, but it doesn't.
1
u/mokshya2014 Jun 01 '21
Can also be due to congestions if you using 2.4 ghz router. You should definitely check the method i mentioned above to check what is the actual problem.
1
1
u/YetaiChu Jun 01 '21
Do you use lan cables though?
0
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
Nope.
1
u/YetaiChu Jun 01 '21
I assume thats the problem. Wifi ping consistency really depends on quality of router. Lan cable gives you consistent connection speed. The cables are really cheap. If you are into mobile gaming I recommend connecting Lan cable in your laptop and using the laptops wifi hotspot to use the internet. Worked for me when I had vianet.
0
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
I use Lan cable while gaming only. My issue is when the lag happens, it happens everywhere at once regardless of device or connection method.
I also have 3 different routers and they all lag simultaneously.

1
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
If they provide a "do it all" ONU+modem+router, I don't think the speed they advertised can be reached. A separate ONU that acts as bridge between router and fibre signal is best optimal configuration.
5
Jun 01 '21
Wow this is even cheaper than in india
2
u/nepalien Jun 01 '21
Nepal primarily buys bandwidth from India, I think. That means Indian ISPs are banking big time!
1
5
u/samtobe1 Jun 01 '21
The price is literally half for more than double the speed of my current internet. While I am kinda skeptical, if it's actually good then it's a no-brainer. Gonna have to switch.
4
6
u/nickarsenal007 Jun 01 '21
Honestly, there is not really good quality internet service in any of these other ISPs. So I think its a good step and need to see what they can do in the future in terms of coverage, quality and popularity. They are just starting.
6
u/Dramatic-Noise Jun 01 '21
Yeah. If the internet is stable, I am getting this as soon as it is available in my region. I am using WorldLink rn and they throttle your internet to provide a better services to businesses (which are their major customers) as soon as you make payment. On the other hand, they provide excellent service during the last week before your payment is due so that you renew the contract.

Is the tax/vat included?? It's pretty good if it's tax/vat inclusive. I would rather switch to cg if there are no hidden costs.
4
u/Amitpaudel03 Jun 01 '21
It is exclusive of VAT. But still cheaper than other ISPs. I'm using Vianet's 30 Mbps plan right now and it costs 1550 + 13% VAT per month. I somehow managed to get it in 1100 per month (tax inclusive) by paying for yearly subscription in Daraz 11.11 offer using discount coupons. Now I'm stuck with this plan until december (It is pretty reliable though and the internet speed I get is always around 30 Mbps any time a day).

Being a CG group initiative, I'm inclined to trust them to atleast be better and responsive to clients too. Subisu package coming to an end in June, so that's great timing for me.. just hope it's available in my area by then. For that price, it's worth a try considering what the others offer and for how much.. think it's trying to do what Noo did, so if they can only manage half of that, it would be incredible.
2
u/De_Chubasco Jun 01 '21
It's CG, I always found them reliable in everything they do. Even though this looks too good to be true, I trust them for providing us good service and hope there are no hidden costs cutting measures.

u/kiranJshah Jun 01 '21
Its too good to be true. Now the question is why is it that better then the competition?

-6
u/mudlesstrip Jun 01 '21
I don't like the way they did their pricing. There should have been more incentives for people to do long term committment, by larger discounts than renewing every month.
3
3
u/Fantastic-Wrongdoer6 Jun 02 '21
For 12 month installation you just have to pay 500 deposit extra and 13% VAT, all the charges of cables and routers are free, what more would you want?
0
u/mudlesstrip Jun 02 '21
That's awesome.
Say, 1000 per month and 10k per year ... OR, 12k per year and 1200 per month kinda sounds more logical tbh where someone paying yearly or in some bulk gets some discount.
I don't care about the prices. Internet prices are already pretty cheap in Nepal.
1
u/Retire-inator9000 NTsocial Jun 02 '21
Paying for the yearly subscription, you get the dual band router for free. And in other bulk packages you get discounts on routers. Pretty good deal tbh.
-2
-3
u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
That 11k doesn't cover all upfront cost though, but the speed is great I think even if they have hidden cost like price of router and cable, its justified as you can only get 30mbps from other isp on same cost.
4
u/junsui833 Jun 01 '21 edited Jun 01 '21
You should check ISPs bills. In there you can see that around 50% of the cost goes to the support and the maintenance. I am sure that particular part is where CG is doing something to decrease it's price.
4
u/y2k2r2d2 गोर्खाली ☝️ Jun 01 '21
It's not Cost goes to 50% support , it is their way to Evade Taxes .

u/diabolik-god Jun 01 '21
But a crappy ONU/fibre optic router would easily bottleneck the network even if you connect through ethernet. If they ship an optical router with 500mhz cpu and low end Broadcom SOC like every other ISP do, you'd never reach the advertised speeds.
