Hurricanes // Weather Dear vacationing tourists, please read before posting questions

Since there are so many of you asking the same things about the impending storm, let’s gather some pertinent info for you. First thing you need to know, it’s going to rain. A lot. At the risk of being crude, it’ll be wetter than a Kardashian at an NBA game. It’ll be windy, but barring an unexpected strengthening, it won’t be hurricane level winds.

A large chunk of Horry and Georgetown counties are developed wetlands, meaning it floods fairly easily. Without getting into the science of it all, this storm has the potential to dump a lot of rain that we normally wouldn’t get from a storm coming in directly from the Atlantic. Know your flood zones and travel routes and plan accordingly. Contact whoever you’re renting from (air bnb owners, hotels, etc) and ask about how flooding has impacted where you’re staying.

If you feel like the locals aren’t that concerned about the storm and aren’t taking your questions seriously, remember that most of us have been dealing with this kind of weather for years or decades. It would be like going to Buffalo and asking if you should cancel going to that Bills game because of snow. The best thing you can do is educate yourself about what to expect. I’ve provided links below. If you don’t feel comfortable dealing with the storm, by all means reschedule your plans. It’s better to be calm and safe at home than to be in an unfamiliar place and scared. Local emergency services will have their hands full as it is, they don’t need uninformed visitors getting into situations that can be easily avoided.

Know where dry ground can be found. Stay indoors until the storm passes, and for the love of all that’s holy, stay off the roads until you know your travel route is clear for traffic.

Mod Announcement Automod nerfed

We are quickly coming to the end of the season and in this last year the sub has grown significantly.

Normally we have automod which puts posts and comments in a queue for approval if your account is still new but we are struggling to keep up with this.

I have nerfed automod much more recently as an expirement to see if we can rely more on reports rather than manually approving so if you see something that violates the rules report it.

That being said, disagreeing with a political posts and reporting it will eventually get you ban. Those are allowed. The good news is I don't care which side you are on because they are both awful in my opinion and I hate the modern censorship that happens on the internet because it isolates people into groups. So feel free to argue all you want but If your argument is "fuck you x sucks" don't be surprised if it's removed... We still have to follow reddits rules or the sub will be ban.

Lastly if anyone is interested in being a mod I'll consider adding people. Feel free to post below and whether you have experience or not.

Moving Recs // Questions Any good storage units?

I rented a climate controlled one in North Myrtle Beach and I saw a couple of German Cockroaches close to the entrance of the building, by a couple of units, and now I am overly paranoid. I don’t know if I want to keep things there. I’m not sure if this just goes for any storage unit or if there’s other good ones you guys can let me know about!

Any recommendations on a local mechanic/auto repair shop? Would be for a 2015 Chevy, so doesn’t need to be vintage, etc.

Resturant Recs // Questions Steak and Seafood Restaurant Recommendations for Husband's Birthday

My husband is simple and wants a quality blue-rare steak and seafood for his birthday this weekend. It is just us and we have no kids, so I want to go all out to find a restaurant he'll love.

We currently live about 45 minutes away from the beach and don't typically eat out too often.

Can anyone recommend a steak and seafood restaurant in the area ?

General Discussion Wedding Planning

Hi everyone, my fiancé and I just started planning our wedding and are considering some venues in SC. One of the venues I’m considering is Wachesaw Plantation Club, one because it’s the aesthetic I’m going for, and second because I have read it’s a little more affordable than some other venues with that same look/feel. I have tried I think 4 different ways to contact the venue at this point with no luck getting any response. In a normal scenario, I would consider this my sign that their communication is bad, and I shouldn’t try to go forward with them. However, everywhere I look, they have 5 star reviews for their weddings… so my question is, if you have had or are having your wedding there, can you please tell me how you got in touch with them? And also maybe a price breakdown of what the wedding ended up costing there. Thank you so much!

UFC Fights // Sports Where to watch Hockey?

Just got into Hockey last year don’t really care for football and I know 99% of places are going to be playing that instead. Anywhere I can watch the Canes (and sometimes the Caps)? Bonus if it’s in NMB (yes I am aware of Dagwoods). TIA!

Resturant Recs // Questions Beachfront Workspace?

I’m tagging along on a work trip with my partner. I can work remote, and can use the provided hotel. It’s on the 17 bypass. Are there any restaurants or coffee shops that have a good beachy setup, where I could work for a few hours (and patronize) as an alternative? Also, any location tips for good shark tooth hunting? Thanks! 😊

General Discussion Bread bowl (boule)

I am trying to replicate a cheeseburger chowder we used to get at the Big E. I cannot find breadbowls in any grocery store. They have large bread bowls that you’d put like a dip in but not like small or medium sized loaf of bread that you can take out the center and it’s a bread bowl like individually or personal. Any ideas. I realize this is a really random thread to be putting this on, but my thought is that maybe someone else would know what I’m talking about and had seen them.

Looking For Friends // Groups Anyone else struggling to make friends here? 😅

Hey everyone! I’m 31, widowed and moved here from Pennsylvania last year. I have 2 year old twins, and honestly, making friends here has been a lot harder than I expected. I’ve joined the Facebook mom groups and tried putting myself out there, but it never really seems to turn into anyone reaching out or actually making plans. There’s a lot of “we should hang out!” and then nothing ever happens lol.

I know everyone has their own lives and responsibilities, so I’m not expecting someone to be available constantly. It’s just been lonely, and I miss having a friend I can text about something random or ask to go do something with. Sometimes you just want someone to grab coffee with or wander around a store with instead of always doing everything by yourself, you know?

A little about me: I love thrifting, antique stores, flea markets, and finding cool vintage stuff. I’m into horror movies, psychological thrillers, true crime, astrology, and video games, especially things like Dragon Age and Persona. I love older music and can absolutely get sucked into a conversation about some weird, unexplained rabbit hole 😂

I’m happy to take the kids somewhere together, but I’d also love dinner, a movie, or an actual night out without the kids! Not everything has to be a playdate lol. I miss getting out and having fun as myself, not just being in mom mode all the time. You definitely don’t have to have kids to be my friend either.
It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. I’d just really love a couple of genuine friends where we both reach out, make plans, and actually get to know each other rather than saying we should hang out forever and never doing it. Anyone nearby feeling the same way? Tell me a little about yourself and what you like doing 🤍
