So she used the correct quote after all.

Thomas Jefferson did keep Sally Hemings as property and fathered at least six children with her, so the history there is real, but the quote isn't from the same context, unfortunately. As delicious of a gotcha that would be.
The specific quoted line Jefferson wrote to his daughter was from February 1801, right in the middle of the contested 1800 presidential election. He and Aaron Burr were deadlocked in the House of Representatives, and he was venting to his family about partisan political opponents. This was back when the runner-up in the presidential race became the vice president, rather than each candidate running on a single ticket with their appointed running mate.
The allegations about Hemings weren’t published until journalist James Callender broke the story in late 1802. Jefferson also famously maintained a policy of public silence on the matter and never issued a formal denial.

Yeah this one was more about him being pissed that people were doing to him what he did to others politically. He was pissed that other people were smearing him with accusations of things he was actually guilty of like paying for shit talk campaigns in the media about Adams and Hamilton.

So she used the correct quote after all.
The smartest thing she could do is STFU and exit public life...

Honestly surprised that Trump hasn’t talked about how if he could own slaves he’d treat them really well or some other dementia raddled take
40
u/thebprince 1d ago
But you just know he wouldn't even do that!
49
u/ReadySausage 1d ago
No of course not. He’d rape them and eventually the children that are products of that rape. But it is surprising to me he hasn’t dementia dreamed about it onstage yet.

Well, since she's been supporting someone she knows is a pedophile all this time, why not a few more?

Hey to her he committed incest. Pedophilia just came along for the ride.

u/EverybodyMakes 1d ago
Very true, but maybe the other way around reveals the Trump mentality better.

These people are so weird

u/red286 1d ago
Weird isn't really the right term for it. A Zooey Deschanel character is "weird". These people are depraved, perverse, and disgusting.

Remember when we called conservatives weird and they lost their minds over it?

I personally like to think that Zooey is also depraved, perverse and disgusting, but that's really a story for another day..

Maybe that's exactly why she said that quote.

I sometimes think about whether she is in denial or has had therapy to deal with these feelings. It cannot be easy.

Very old tweet, but still relevant. Ivanka has been under the radar this go around when it comes to the presidency.

Very old tweet, but still relevant.
I fucking hate it when people don't include the date stamps in tweet screenshots.

“You're quoting Jefferson's denial that he'd raped and impregnated a girl he kept as property. Which he did, in fact, do.”
She’s right, some things never change

u/SnatchBlaster3000 1d ago
A girl who, by the way, was Jefferson's wife's HALF SISTER thanks to the rape of her enslaved mom by their shared dad! Not enough people know that.

Wow. She’s as dim as he is.
Or she’s playing dumb by broadcasting the truth.

Is there a possibility she knew full well what the quote is about, then again she is one of few who could put a stop to what is occurring and has not done so.

If you read Jefferson's letters to his daughter, you realize what a POS father he was.
