The funny part of that is those cell findings were part of multiple laws that both Democrats and Republicans voted yes on over a decade ago. Ya know the same ones they claimed were being used to spy on them, but in fact were being used to see if anyone was trying to commit election fraud

Tbf, we do, but before you can heal you need to stop the source of the damage.

Break up monopolies. End foreign bot farms on social media. Ban any one entity or its holding company or controlling interest holders from having likewise control over any one other news outlets. Hell maybe just make all news agencies employee owned.

Repeal citizens united, patriot act, and no child left behind. Put tons of controls and new limitations on the president and war powers. Restore the DoJ and FBI to party neutrality. Greater transparency and accountability for the CIA. Add more SCOTUS seats.

New significant taxes on the ultra rich. Fund PBS and NPR and enact programs like China aimed at inspiring our youth to learn and achieve.

Hold corporations criminally liable for crimes with executives. Enact legislation that puts campaign promises made vs kept counters under incumbents on the ballot. Have civil liabilities for politicians that defraud voters by stating things they have no intention of doing.

you missed a big one. social media algorithms need to be independently monitored to stop rewarding anger and division. Read the book, The Chaos Machine. I think social media is to blame for a large part of the worldwide animosity toward each other.

Americans are doing absolutely nothing about this shitshow. They've managed about 2 'no kings' protests, but other than that, you are all just sitting back and waiting for someone else to do something!

Heres my prediction: Trump and his goons will pull some serious, 3rd-world dictator ballot stealing shit in November, Johnson and Vance will refuse to seat newly elected Dems, and all you lot will come straight to Reddit to talk about how much you're looking forward to someone else doing something about it.

America, this is what you have allowed yourself to become. The endless, "Gosh America is so gosh darn awesome. Despite our many flaws - institutionalized racism, poverty, flawed democracy etc - aren't we just the best?! USA USA #1!"

And the rot under the floorboards has continued for decades and we've ignored it/allowed it/thought it could never really happen and that goodness would eventually prevail. This administration is just capitalizing on the decay.

Even if the Dems do get back in, they'll find a way or the system will find a way for them to disappoint us again.

Why my negativity? Because it's always been this cycle - GOP fucks everything up, Dems try to fix it but often can't because it doesnt have the Senate numbers, gets blamed for not fixing the GOP's fuck up, GOP gets re-elected and the cycle continues with the blessing of endless performative theatre and culture wars.

I'll vote and encourage everyone I can to vote and I hope (dear God I hope) that I'm wrong about the above and I will be glad for people to tell me in years to come that I was wrong to lose faith.
