Just saying this because many just self-interpret on what may conveniently happened in the series, while don't actually fully think about all the possibilities and why Urasawa chose to leave the ending at a mystery. And then they go to reddit and complained that the series didn't spoonfeed them to stop contemplating this piece.

Hi! I loved the show from start to finish, does anyone recommend a rewatch? Are there things you didn't notice the first time that you only noticed on a rewatch? Or is Monster the kind of anime where you can only really watch it once?

CONTEXT

I have seen a lot of theories online about the childhood of the twins before being found by wolf. The two prominent ones are:

1. Vera escaped with the twins after their birth and is currently hiding with them.

2. The three frog itself is an experiment by bonaparta.

Supporting points:

Hiding theory:

This theory is considered canon so it doesn't need a lot of explanation.

Core issues I found: 1. Why didn't vera chose a faraway place? 2. Why didn't she name the twins?

Experiment theory:

This theory suggest that three frogs apartment was an extension to bonarpatas education program ( Peter capek on seeing the twins just after their birth mentions they will undergo his program) thus monitoring the twins. This also explains why vera didn't run away that far from the red rose mansion. It also suggests the twins be dressed the same without names to deprive them of their identity. Also makes sense why vera didn't name them during that time.

Issues with experiment theory i found :

1. Vera sending letters to helenka as if nothing is wrong which prolly wouldn't happen if they were under the holding of bonaparta.

2. Schuwald visiting them in three frogs if they were under captive.

MY MAIN QUESTION

The thing that bugged me is JOHAN has the nameless monster book with him at three frogs. If vera hated franz and the children have never attended reading sessions at the red rose mansion, how does johan have this book at the three frogs. This only makes sense if the twins were undergoing bonarpata's program, else why would vera allow him to read that?

Please do correct me if I am wrong.

Just finished the show a couple weeks ago and it was overall peak. Mr Grimmer was one of the most beautifully written characters I have seen.

However, I didn't like how Johan got shot by a random newly introduced character. So much of the suspense of the show was based on the recurring theme of whether Tenma will become a murderer or not, is he gonna shoot or not? Many of the episodes were centered around Tenma and the people around him being distressed about this matter and growing through it.

In the end, it felt like this question was just avoided and one of the main themes was left hanging. Am I missing something?
