I work in the oil & gas industry - earning about 105/110k/yr. I have been in the industry for about six years. 14/14 rotations (two weeks on two weeks off).
I’m at a point of really not liking the job anymore. Mostly the traveling. I have been missing normalcy lately. The biggest perk to my job is the time off. Other than that, it’s meh. The money is decent, but not MASSIVE seller.
I’ve got six figures invested into the market & have a HYSA account with six figures to stay liquid in case I decide to get a house, or whatever. Have been thinking about just taking 30k of it and paying off my truck.
Anyway, the only reason I’m still at my job is because I am terrified of a pay cut. A lot of what I’d get into, I’d start off in the $60k a year mark. Which is a massive pay cut. And my lady doesn’t make the best of money. I know I have reserves, but I REALLY try not & touch any of that money. My vanguard is completely off limits unless I was full on in a bind.
I just am nervous. I’m not sure if taking a pay cut will cause more stress than I have going to work for two weeks & being gone all the time. I’ve been pondering this for quite some time. And I feel like the more I think about it, I just stress myself out more.
Have you guys taken jobs with pay cuts and had a good outcome? Or regret? Because I’m really struggling at finding good advice on this.
