Why do so many Mississippians leave home, and what would it take to bring them back?

Don't Look Around, a new narrative podcast from The Mississippi Independent and Broadview Creative Company, premieres today. Host Melvin Robinson, a Mississippi native who left the state himself, talks with Mississippians who moved away (a filmmaker in California, a business owner in upstate New York, a therapist in Illinois and more) about the state's brain drain and how to reverse it.

Episode 1 is available now! Check it out and let me know what you think!

Almost 30 counties are under a burn ban, just as I’m about to go camping.

STUPID MAILING ALERT: Wait! This wouldn't have happened without Cindy Hyde-Smith? OMG! This is the first mailing boosting a candidate on next month's ballot that I have received so far. The measure mentioned passed both Senate and House nearly unanimously. Good for her and us, being on the correct side of a measure. But nearly about 90% of all senators and representatives from the both parties plus the states and rep districts as well. Heck, I'm willing to bet nearly all the opposition candidates would have voted yea as well. REALTORS, not a good look. Looks like a huge, ineffective waste of your member dues and lack of leadership respect.

I can hardly wait for the next mail drop!

I have no idea if the two are connected, however I’ve got no possible spam calls.

Is anybody else sick of the whole ‘Are you tired of transgenders breaking into your backyard through the border on UFOs and sex-changing your children in women’s bathrooms?’ ads? They don’t ever campaign on policy changes or literally ANYTHING of substance.

Hey folks! I’m helping put on a free rock n roll show in Clinton! We’re giving away free beer and pizza while supplies last! Come have good time;)

With the FERC’s approval of the “Mississippi Crossing” pipeline project, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. has the power of eminent domain and can dig up any landowner's property without their consent.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to a dentist that can help? I am dirt poor since I just moved and everything was so costly, and now I am trying to find a job (career in healthcare finance) I'm just ready to cry.

I recently moved back to the gulf coast after a decade and I’m planning to purchase a house early next year but I’m having a really hard time figuring out what kind of ballpark budget I need to be using for insurance when trying to figure out what I can afford house wise.

I’ve been looking in the Woolmarket area along with Diberville near the High School. Currently looking between 240k - 320k and estimating $3500 for home owners, wind, and flood. I can’t figure out if I’m estimating too low and need to increase it and aim for a cheaper house or if this is enough and that top end is fine. USAA has been useless trying to get a ballpark figure even with specific homes provided as examples.

I’m not sure if calling someone locally and telling them where I’m looking if they could just give me a ballpark figure. I would prefer to budget too much than not enough.
