Complaint Child Abuser - Mill Pond Trail

Today at 12:20 pm I witnessed a lady with 2 other adult women walking 2 children on the Mill Pond trail abusing a young boy. She started off by spanking the child aggressively, once she was finished spanking the child she wound up and smacked him in the back of the head, then screamed at the kid "your a very stupid kid".

I yelled at her from across the river to stop, I was on Mill street side. I followed her and the group she was with along the Mill street side to ensure she didn't continue to beat the child. The abuser became aggressive and started yelling at me asking if I had a problem, to which I responded yes.

I called the police and provided the details. If anyone has any further information, could you please DM me or provide the police with the information, a report has been created.

Description: female, white, long brown hair, black sweater, Grey sweatpants with print on the back, little blue back pack, height 5'0-5'5, age 18-25.

She was with 2 other adult females, both looked older than the abuser and were both wearing red shirts. They did nothing to stop this girl and in my opinion just as guilty.

The reason I'm writing this is to get more information for the police and to warn other parents, I have no idea if this is a childcare situation or if these people were related. I know if it was my kid, I'd want someone to mention it.

Thank you,

If she does this in public, imagine how she is behind closed doors....good on you for reporting it!

I know! This isn't the first time this has happened, she seemed all too comfortable doing this.

"She was with 2 other adult females, both looked older than the abuser and were both wearing red shirts. They did nothing to stop this girl and in my opinion just as guilty."

Is it possible that she is a care taker for these 2 adult females? It's always possible that they have developmental disabilities, it isn't always obvious by appearance. They may not know any better, especially if this kind of abuse has been normalized.

That's an interesting point, one I never considered. I personally don't believe this was the case in this situation. The abuser girl seemed younger than the two other females. The other 2 females seemed to be fully capable of understanding the situation, and they were providing care to the children (giving them snacks, staying with them). The abuser walked away from the group and when she saw me on the phone, took off and left the other 2 women with the children.

Jumping in to add that there is a care group for adults with developmental disabilities that take their clients to mill pond. I see them walking there a couple times a week.

abuse is abuse. Police is the right call.

Im not disputing that though? If the two older ladies are a part of that community and their care giver is abusive, wouldn't you think that makes them at risk too...

This isn't exaggeration or embellishment. I know that spanking isn't illegal, but doing it in the manner that this lady was doing it is. Smacking a child in the back of the head, then verbally abusing the child and calling them very stupid is.

This has nothing to do with parenting choices. It's clearly abuse, whether it's in public or not. Do not try to make light of this situation. You deserve a downvote.

I took a class in hs for child development. Spanking your child (legal or not) can cause some very bad mental issues later on. It registers in the child head (sometimes) as sexual assault. It can lead to sexual frustration or even cause the child to be vulnerable to sexual abuse in the future. I'm happy you stood up for the kid. Lots of people don't understand how spanking negatively affects a child's mindset.

I actually thought spanking was illegal for many years. Turns out I'm wrong, BUT hitting the kid in the head like you described IS illegal in Ontario.

See my reply to OP's reply to you. But also, this isn't about gentle parenting. Gentle parenting (while still scientifically proven) is much more "extreme" in the sense of discipline and learning. It is NOT just about physical abuse. Physical abuse should not be a part of any parenting, regardless of how closely it aligns or doesn't align with gentle parenting.

Nobody should be laying hands on a child like this- regardless of whether or not they subscribe to 'gentle parenting', which often gets confused with 'permissive parenting'. Permissive parenting is when parents let the kids do whatever they hell they want and end up creating little monsters- while gentle parenting just means you talk about issues and make the kid part of a constructive solution. Gentle parenting can still be an incredibly firm way of parenting with boundaries for both the parent and child.

Hitting children teaches them that hitting solves problems. That creates little children that will hit others to solve their problems. Kids emulate what they see.

If someone is hitting kids in public, you can only imagine how bad it is in private. That poor kid.

Lol people like you are the problem with our society. Digging their noses into other people's business as if you have nothing better to do. Just spanking your kid is not abuse, its disciplining and parents should be able to do this. Your gentle parenting shit doesn't work. Remember that next time your kid (if you even have any of your own) throws a tantrum and you are sitting there telling them to stop like a fool...
