Has anyone had their package rejected by the post office recently due to “unpaid postage” on a Mercari prepaid shipping label? I know this was an issue in the Spring that was resolved but this is my first time encountering the issue. How did you get it resolved?

🚨EDIT NEW VERSION OF SCAM🚨 There is a new one going around about it being part of their “ongoing security procedures” that says your listings have been temporarily hidden to protect your account. This is also a scam. Again, Mercari will NOT contact you through messages like this.
🚨**NEW SCAM - GETTING EMAILS FROM INTERESTED “BUYERS”🚨 **
People have been getting emails about their items (usually items they just listed) from people claiming to be interested buyers, but there’s no message on Mercari or notifications about their message.
These are spam/scam emails. They’re most likely guessing your email name based on 1 of your 2 Mercari names - Your profile name (bigger one on your profile, which is the one most are referring to when using their Mercari name) and your username (smaller one under the profile name with @ in front of it. The username is a generic default name unless you change it. From what I’ve seen, it’s always “user” with a bunch of random numbers (like “user12345678”). It seems like a lot don’t change it. Personally, I’d change it to match your profile name since the username is the only way someone can get directly to your page without having to search for one of your listings.
The scammers/spammers emailing you are likely using your profile name/username or something else, like something in your bio (like if you have your name in it to introduce yourself) to guess your email, trying it with different email domains (like gmail, outlook, etc.) to see if any of them send, and if they get a response.
Change your email and/or Mercari name or remove whatever’s in your bio that could be used to guess your email. If your email is nothing like your Mercari names and you don’t have anything in your bio that could lead them to guessing your email, they’re guessing it some other way. There’s been a lot of past posts on here about this. You can do a search on here for them to see if any give any other info on how they might be guessing your email. But here are a couple: this one’s from a month ago and this one’s from a little over 3 months ago.
EDIT 2: INFO ON REAL MESSAGE FROM MERCARI ABOUT VERIFYING YOUR IDENTITY AT END OF POST LOOK FOR ‼️
We are being flooded with posts about the spam messages from scammers about your item being sold or reserved and the new “policy” where you need to go to a link to “complete additional details.”
Pinned posts don’t usually work. People tend to just look right past them. But, I’m willing to try. So, if you’ve gotten messages like that…
FOR THOSE GETTING THESE MESSAGES YES it is a scam. Mercari will NEVER ask for you to go off the app for anything. It makes no sense. It’s their app. Why would they need you to go to some other website to do anything? They’d have you do it in their app. It’s also literally against their TOS to do so, so it also makes no sense why they’d ask you to do it. Mercari will NEVER contact you through messages - that’s for buyers and sellers to communicate. Mercari never contacts anyone through there.
If you get one of these messages. Ignore it, block them, and report it. Mercari usually ends up deleting it and the account but 100 more seem to pop up. So just keep reporting them when you get them.
Please see this article from Mercari on avoiding common scams for more info.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SICK OF THE POSTS I know you’re all annoyed by the constant posts about this. We have filters in place to catch them, but some still get past them (and that’s just what gets through.. imagine how many don’t).
One problem is that IF people actually search before posting, they won’t see anything because we’ve been removing all the recent ones. So it’s been a while since one has been posted about and kept up and can look like it hasn’t been posted.
I set up a message that should pop up when people use certain keywords (like “scam”) telling them it’s a scam and it’s been posted about and, if they post, it will be removed. It worked when I tested it, but when I had someone else test it, it worked a couple times but didn’t another time, so it doesn’t seem consistent. But I haven’t had anyone else to confirm how it works for them. So, if anyone does test it out and gets the message or doesn’t, let me know! 😊 I’m not sure if people are seeing it, ignoring it, and posting anyway or if it’s just not working like it should. I could make it show the message and block them from posting, but I don’t want to block people from making legit posts that might use some of the keywords. It doesn’t seem fair to make it harder for people to post because of that. So, I left it so they could still post.
Anyway, hopefully this pinned post will help! I know you’re all annoyed, so are the mods! We’re doing all we can to try to reduce them.
Please continue to report any you see since 2/more reports will remove the post for mods to look at. But, hopefully this will work and you won’t need to! 🤞
‼️INFO ON REAL MESSAGE THAT’S REALLY FROM MERCARI ASKING YOU TO VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY‼️
If you get a message from Mercari that says you need to verify your identity that says something like this (this is copy past from screenshot of a real message someone received from Mercari about verifying their identity. Again, I couldn’t add a photo of it to the post so I’m just copy/pasting the message. If need more info/have any questions, message mod mail): “In compliance with federal and state regulations Mercari must obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account or conducts certain transactions. As a result, your account has been temporarily limited until we can verify your identity. Please go to your Inbox at the bottom of the screen and tap the verification request that we sent you.
We ask that you complete this form within 48 hours. Please note, the verification process must be completed in the Mercari app. To download, visit the app store on your device.
When you've completed the account verification request, and updated your shipping information to reflect your full name (initials may not be used), please reach out to us through our Help Center.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for maintaining a safe and friendly marketplace for our Mercari community.”
That is a REAL message that’s actually from Mercari asking you to verify your identity. It is NOT a scam. JUST BE SURE IT WAS SENT THROUGH MERCARI, NOT IN MESSAGE AREA WHERE BUYERS/SELLERS MESSAGE OR REAL EMAIL FROM REAL MERCARI ADDRESSES - WHICH, I BELIEVE SHOULD ALSO SHOW IN THE MERCARI APP.
Mercari does ask you to verify your identity. You might think it’s odd you didn’t need to do it when signing up. But that’s normal. Identify verification isn’t required until a transaction is made (money being exchanged). So you’re not asked to do it when signing up, but will be after making a purchase/sale.
Most new sellers are asked after making a sale (usually their first, but might be 2nd or a few later) and go to print the label or scan the QR code for the label, so be aware this will likely happen and you will not be able to continue with the sale if you don’t.
Most new buyers are asked after making a purchase (again, usually the first, but might be 2nd or so later). It seems to happen if buyer tries to message the seller at some point after buying, they’ll be asked to verify and won’t be able to message the seller if they don’t. If you don’t try to message the seller at any point after the purchase, it may happen at another point during the purchase (like if try to open a return). It basically happens when trying to do something and won’t let you do it until and unless you verify. Be prepared to do it or be stuck not being able to do whatever it is (message seller, open a return, etc.).
If you’re asked to verify your identity (during a sale/purchase) and you do NOT do it, you won’t be able to continue with the sale (if a seller) or do whatever you were trying to do (if a buyer), and Mercari will close your account shortly after. You’re given a time frame to do it, if it isn’t done by the end of that time, your account will be closed. There’s no way to opt out of doing it once you’re asked. So be aware this will eventually come up, usually sooner rather than later (though some have said they weren’t asked to do it even though they’ve had multiple sales/purchases. So you can always try and see how long you can go before asked and just be done with it once you’re asked to do it if you’re not comfortable doing it).
If you have any questions about this, there’s quite a few past posts about identify verification that can provide more info. You can also message mod mail and I’ll be happy to answer any questions or provide more info.

The status shows delivered on their own order status and yet they are claiming it hasn’t been delivered in the message I received from them.
Buyer hasn’t given a reason for the return request yet as far as I can see and it still says it is under review.
But how can she return it if it supposedly isn’t delivered? 🙄

I am new to Mercari. I have made exactly 5 purchases since opening my account a couple of weeks ago, all with the same card. On Tuesday I tried to make another and got this error. Weird, but okay. I know I have the funds available, but I try a different card anyway.
Second card gives me the same error. Try a third card that is through a different bank. Same error. Call bank to make sure that there's nothing on my end with he first two cards making trouble. They say everything looks good, the purchase should be able to go through.
I double check the billing address and card info and try again with the first card I used; no dice.
I let the seller know im interested but that I'm having trouble with Mercari. She kindly puts the listing on hold for me and we work together so that I make an offer and she accepts it to see if that changes anything. Nope, doesnt work.
I reach out to Merari cx service. They tell me that my account looks good and it should work, but that the seller needs to fill out a form in their settings for taxes. I convey this to the seller, let her know she can all cx service to confirm or get help. She says okay and when I see her message a few hours later, i message her back to say "okay, let me know when that's done and I'll try again."
As soon as I send that I get a Final Warning from Mercari because I'm "spamming users with messages". She's the only person I've been messaging. Immediately panic bc what do you mean I'm on a final warning? Ive been using this account for 3 weeks at the MOST and have never gotten a warning before.
I try the purchase again, hoping that she took care of it and too nervous to message her in case I get banned: Same. Error. I finally message her and apologize. Tell her it didnt go through and that I'm getting warnings for messaging her and that I'm sorry for wasting her time for two days.
She apologizes as well bc she's never seen anything like this happen before and doesnt know how to help.
TLDR: Made multiple purchases with the card on file before starting to get this error. My bank says my card is good to go. Mercari says my account is good to go. Still getting this error. Now on final warning for"spam messaging" the seller to sort out the purchase. Anyone else seen this before?

I always use the UPS ground saver option when sending out a package that weighs more than 1 pound but less than five. I carefully measured my box and I chose 4 pounds.
I weighed with my scale at home and it came close to 3 pounds. So I assumed I was safe. I dropped it off at the UPS store and the receipt shows the item weighs 2 pounds 12 oz. This morning Mercari tells me my package weighed 8 pounds so they’re charging me overage of approximately seven dollars. I contacted Mercari submitted proof from the UPS store of the weight. The dimensions that were reported were exactly to my dimensions. Mercari basically told me that there’s no way to get a refund from the UPS ground saver option. And that the weight dictated to me on my receipt from the UPS store is not necessarily correct. This is the third time this year that I’ve encountered a weight problem using the UPS ground saver. I honestly don’t recommend this option..

On September 24th, I ordered a sticker bundle from someone on Mercari using a $10 credit that was about to expire. I was super excited because it was a good deal, and I really liked all of the stickers that were included in the bundle. Fast forward to October 5th, the stickers still hadn't been shipped out, and Mercari had already sent an email reminding the buyer to ship the item. We were getting close to the 2-week mark, and I decided to cancel the order because I hadn't heard anything from the seller, nor had Mercari, as far as I knew. Long story short, Mercari reached out to them again and got no response. So they refunded my credit and whatever extra I had spent on the bundle, and I thought that was that.
I ended up using that credit to buy another item, and all was well. That is, until I went to retrieve that item from my mailbox and noticed an extra package that I was not expecting. Lo and behold, it was the sticker bundle. How did that even happen? What do I do? I've never had this happen before. I can't even see the seller's info on the app to message them and ask how to make it right, even though I wasn't at fault imo. Please help. 😔
Edit: Thank you all for your responses. I'm just gonna leave it be and enjoy the stickers. If the seller reaches out, then I'll gladly make things right. But it seems there isn't much I can do until then. 🤷🏻♀️

For context, I exclusively use Mercari on my phone, I have 2FA via both SMS and Email.
I wake up to 23 notifications from Mercari on my phone, which is quite unusual for me as a seller, as I'm just a small time seller. I open the app and see that my profile picture and name was changed to fit the common Mercari admin scam and that the malicious individual who got into my account had DM'd over 50+ people to try to scam.
Overall I'm quite puzzled because I know I wasn't cookie logged since I definitely never tap any sort of links on my phone as I use it exclusively for apps, messaging, and calls, so I have absolutely no idea how someone could get into my account and it didn't notify me via email or SMS. Maybe another data breach happened? None of my information was changed, my email was the same, phone number, password and so was the banking information. They didn't use my card for any purchases either and luckily I didn't have a balance. I don't know how they were able to access my account and I'm not sure why my account was the target to be the catalyst of this scam, they could've done the same thing with any account really, I don't think reviews really change anything when it wouldn't really make sense to have them to be able to pull this off.
I immediately secure my account by checking all my information and resetting my password, and then I started messaging back all the people that the scammer had DM'd to tell them to ignore the message and not to do what it says so they don't fall for the scam.
I contacted customer support and surprisingly they replied within 10 minutes, but told me that my situation was more advanced so they would notify other teams. A few hours later, someone else replies to my inquiry and honestly they don't really do much except ask me to reset my password, restore the email to what it was previously (It wasn't even changed in the first place), and they asked me for my ID verification.
At this point, I thought everything was all good to go and that I could move on, however, a few hours later, my account is restricted for "unusual activity". Not really sure why, I'm assuming that despite me contacting support immediately and prior, they still put limitations on my account after everything was resolved? So I contact them again today, sort it all out and go through the same routine as before. So far, everything is working properly again and my account isn't limited anymore, but why on earth does imposing limitations on account DELETE ALL YOUR LISTINGS?
Overall, I think Mercari needs stronger security, especially when the current security they have is seemingly easily bypassable. Other apps would automatically secure your account for you if the login IP and location are suspicious. Additionally, I don't think account limitations should delete all of your listings, why doesn't it just de-activate all of them instead?

Apparently buyer requested a refund because the perfume arrived damage. I shipped USP. Zero star buyer. I have a feeling they used AI in order to falsify a return and get the item for free since it’s Hazmat. Mercari did not provide me photos of the damaged item so I’m required to take their word for it. I want to reach out to customer support but I don’t see how to do that. They didn’t give me the option.

I sold a $90 Orange Frost fragrance for $60 because I used it twice. The label created was for UPS and then transfer to USPS for final delivery. I sent it out 8/15. When the product was being transferred to the USPS, it appeared to have been “lost” so they cancelled the sale. This took place from 8/19-8/24. On 10/13, I received a message and email from Mercari themselves that the product was delivered. Mercari is refusing to pay me because they claim I dropped it off with USPS rather than UPS. I spoke to my local UPS that I dropped it off at and they are unable to pull up the receipt since it was just a drop off and happened too far back. I was also told that UPS no longer does USPS transfers but handles it all themselves. Because mercari failed to follow this policy, they’re saying they cannot pay me even though the buyer received their product. For free. UPS told me my proof that I dropped off with them is in this screenshot because it would not say “package moving to local post office” if UPS didn’t have it first.

I previously posted about an issue I had with Mercari where the package I sent was marked as addressee unknown. The buyer was very insistent I refunded them before getting the item returned to me. They ended up contacting Mercari, who canceled the order even though when I contacted them previously they told me not to do so until I received the item back.
USPS official tracking now says the item was delivered to the buyer. I contacted Mercari about this, asking for my money, and they said they will not because it says it was returned to sender (me). It was not. It shows it was delivered to the buyers address and we live States away. What do I do? I am extremely frustrated by all this! I reached out to USPS already but they haven't got back to me yet. I did this before Mercari canceled the order.
Update: I mentioned contacting the Better Business Bureau and got a human to respond to me almost immediately. A few hours after that they released my funds, thank god! Still super disheartening. It wasn't a lot of money but I have a feeling this has probably happened to people with expensive items and that makes me sad. Not sure if I will continue to use Mercari for selling anymore.

Hi, been selling for a few years and I've never encountered this. I'm looking for ideas on what to do or expect. I had a $40 purchase on October 8th. I dropped off the package on October 9th and used the kiosk to scan it in. The package received its first scan when arriving at the next center on the 10th. The package has reached the buyer's state and had its last scan on the 11th.
The missing mail search was not initiated by me and the buyer hasn't messaged me. Three days seems a bit short to start a search as well, plus there was just a holiday weekend. It was a set of three keychains wrapped in bubble wrap, then packaged in a small bubble mailer. Does this mean the package may have been damaged? Will Mercari reimburse me if the package is declared lost? I was selling a collectible set to help with vet bills. Thank you in advance!

So disappointed. 😞 I'm not looking to sell often but it was my first time selling a few items on Mercari. 3 sold fine with no issues then the 4th someone completely lied. I ship same day and pack everything nicely, communicated super well and made sure to let me know if she had any questions to let me know. She told me she didnt get confetti in her shipment (she did) then she said it didnt look brand new even though its been sealed completely in original package, had tags still on and sillica package, and was even folded inside how the item was given to me. I've had the package in a closet for a year so it's probably very minor wear and tear which was noted? Either way she gave me a review that was a lie. Luckily she still gave me 5 stars but I really dont understand why anyone would do that. 🙄 I wish mercari would let you dispute. I have pictures of the package and the confetti that was inside.

after about a year break i’ve started selling again, i don’t think a single sale ive made has been for the listed price. i notice that if i don’t accept offers, my listings will rot there even if they’re already really good deals on the the items im selling. i need the money right now, going through some personal stuff, but jeez no buyer on this app is capable of ever just paying the listed price anymore. 😭 and don’t even get me started on the lowball offers that aren’t even a fraction of the item’s worth.

I recently got a Build a Bear that I am planning to sell and it has sound in the paw. Does it need to have a hazmat label? I'm assuming it's a battery of some kind so I'm unsure of how to proceed. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you !

How do I report someone harassing me and saying they're going to come after me?
They bought something on Saturday, i couldn't ship it until Tuesday, which i did but I didn't see they're many messages on many of my listings until the mail was picked up, saying they caught me they're going to get me, now they are going to have my address and are completely flipping out over a 20$ pokemon card they bought on a Saturday of a holiday weekend...
Advice

My Mercari account has stopped. My sales have dropped off, no one likes my listings and I can’t find my listings. I haven’t received any notices of breaking the rules. I have perfect feedback. October 7th was my last normal day.

Wondering if anyone has had this happen before. I've had an order stuck in purgatory for about a week now and am not sure what to do. I sold an item to what looks like a fresh Mercari account. Sent it out, but the tracking on Mercari's end is incorrect. If I pull the tracking up on the USPS website it shows delivered. However, on Mercari's end it is showing additional scans after delivery. So, the order hasn't been marked complete to move it forward into rating.
I'm concerned because the individual I sold it to doesn't seem to know how to rate, and at this point I need them to rate it and mark as received so I can have my funds released. I reached out via message but haven't heard back.
I opened an inquiry with Mercari but got an AI response amounting to "Sorry, there were in transit scans after the delivery scan so it isn't complete yet." I sent them the screenshot of the USPS tracking showing delivery with no scans after that and am waiting to hear back.
Just wondering if anyone else got stuck in this situation and how/if it got resolved. It's mot a large amount of money, but it sure would be nice to have right now lol.

I see sellers selling some fakes - like a bottle of perfume that looks real being sold in a size the brand has never made. Yet the seller has hundreds of good reviews. Or I see a seller selling a perfume I want - looks real at a steep discount. If I ask a clarifying question they don’t respond. And again a seller with hundreds of good reviews. Why & how? What’s real?

First time buying from Mercari. I just purchased a 3ds game from a seller on Saturday, and they said that they would have it shipped out the same day even though they don't ship out on weekends which i thought was nice. But i just got a notification saying that it was out for delivery in the sellers same town which i don't understand. Idk if it's a mistake on the label, or smth else, but im just kinda scared that i got scammed by the seller. I've contacted the seller about it, but I've not gotten a reply back from them. I don't know what to do at this point.

Made an account on mercari today just to purchase something I really wanted but for some reason the seller blocked me? I’m not sure how’s that possible since I just made it and I’m unable to message them either… I was able to purchase from a different seller just fine :0
