I am begging someone involved with this production to spend literally ONE afternoon in South Louisiana.
Harry Hamlinās character keeps saying ācherā like heās talking about the singer CHER.
CHER.
Sir. No. STOP IT!
In Louisiana, cher is a term of endearment, and we pronounce it āsha.ā With the āaā sound in āthat, fat, catā with the ātā removed! āshā + the vowel in āthatā = roughly /ŹĆ¦/
As in, āMais, cher, you sayinā dat wrongā Pronounced, āMay, shaā¦ā NOT āDo you believe in life after love?ā
And once you hear it wrong, you cannot unhear it.
Some of the accents on this show are passable, some are wandering around somewhere between Blanche DuBois, Colonel Sanders, and a man doing a Louisiana accent after being given directions over the phone by someone from Ohio.
WHO IS THE LOUISIANA CONSULTANT?! May the Rougarou haunt your dreams until you learn how to pronounce cher and stop making these Hollywood types look like a bunchāa couyons!
I just want thirty minutes with this cast. Come listen. Iāll buy the coffee. Weāll sit down. Weāll work on cher. Weāll work on cadence. Weāll discuss why Louisiana does not have one universal accent. Nobody wants this.
Because I am watching a show set in my home state while already dealing with 90-degree Octobers, and somehow the ACCENTS are still whatās making me want to claw my eyeballs out.
Harry Hamlin, cher, call me. We can fix this. Letās do Queen Anne right.
