My son's school mandated green for math. I was mortified.
Edit: lots of you are horrified at my use of mortified. All I can say is I'm appalled and embarrassed that y'all don't understand the full meaning of the word.
Gotta transfer him to a school where math folders are red, there's simply no other way.
Edit: Thank you for all the awards guys and gals! If there's one thing I've learned from this post, it's that all of us inadvertently took Color Theory as an elective! 😜
If there is anything we can 75% agree on in the thread is that math is red.
Edit: Fine, if anything we can agree on in this thread is that math is either red OR blue and anything else is just outright. The blue crowd is defensive!
As someone not from an English speaking country (Finland), here's the colors I associated with every mandatory subject. I'm probably just inventing some though, there wasn't much agreement on them as far as I remember.
Biology: Green
Geography: Brown/green
Chemistry: Dark green
Physics: Dark blue
Math: Blue
Finnish: Red
Religion: Purple
History: Orange
English as a second language: Light blue (looking it up it was apparently Yellow but I definitely never associated it with that)
We're German and you're absolutely correct. Obviously in our case red equals German. And my son currently uses yellow for English, too. Art is white here. He will start French this year. He also wants to do Greek later. And I'm not sure what to do with both of them.
I could see that also working. I always had black for music/band, though; I suppose it was because we carried all our sheet music in it and it’s the least intrusive color to see on stage.
I'm very close to that. I swapped English (yellow, like journalism) and History (Red, like blood). Purple for foreign language classes (initially I took Latin, like the Patricians) and orange for specials (kinda all that's left)
We had a massive debate about this is large meeting a few months ago. The genx-ers didn't know what we were talking about and the few gen z folks said they've heard about it but didn't have opinions. Evidently it's mostly us millinials that have opinions. We were very split on colors all from the same region. It seems to be a very personal experience.
Interesting that the younger folk in meeting didn't. I'm glad to guys carried the torch. I think having cultural touching points that we all share, even frivolous ones, is important.
Also Southern Indiana here. Math was blue. I believe Social Studies/similar classes were red. Science was green. That's how it was when I was in Middle School anyways. Can't recall English. May have been yellow?
Science - Dark blue (later broke down into biology, chemistry and Physics)
Chemistry - Purple
Biology - Dark Green
Physics - Dark Blue
English - Yellow
Arts - Darker Green
Philosophy - Dark Orange
Other subjects that got introduced later was in a school that did not use colors and neither did I, but sociology I always associated it with blue. This was in Brazil.
I don't know if there is divides regionally. We would have this debate at school, and it was pretty split on red or blue. Same from other schools in the area. This is from the Northeast
New Jersey
Math is red, science is green, English is blue, social studies/history is yellow, language is orange, art/creative writing is purple, if there’s anything else it’s black.
It's all in your head. Most people are only bad at math because they decided they are or because they aren't honest about not knowing basic skills. I sort of know what I am talking about, I only have a graduate degree in Math, but I'm not a professor or anything.
Math is blue because math feels blue. Science is green because nature is green. English is black because language is a black hole that forever holds and immortalizes experience.
Why is like a third of your schedule just different variations of social studies?? That's a huge chunk of the color spectrum to dedicate to social studies+
I used red for math because it’s the most powerful. Science was green because it’s the best color and best subject and also biology is obviously green
English was blue, I don’t think I had a reason for this
Social studies or history was yellow because that’s the closest color to aged parchment and people.
Math for me has always been red. Science was either blue or purple, English was green, and Social Studies was yellow. For other classes, I just went with wtv color I had, and I think Art was usually red
English is blue cuz it calmed me down as the only subject I was good at, history is yellow because the land on maps were yellow 🫠 math red cuz it angers me.
Math is red or maybe orange. English is blue. Social studies could also potentially be blue but it's also a good fit for yellow. Science is 100% green.
My middle school had math as black. Language Arts was red. In elementary school Language Arts was blue, but I don't remember what color math was back then.
Math is blue. Social Studies / History is red. Science is green, English is purple. I can't remember what I used yellow and orange for, so they must not be important
Lmao this is so interesting because I switched math from red to blue when I started liking it and getting good grades. Red then went to history because of all the wars, death, and struggle.
I find it fascinating that we are assigning it not only different colors, but for different reasons. Like I never even considered that people would assign a physical meaning to the colors they chose, math just "tastes" blue to me.
