We’re consolidating this topic into a single thread, as the ongoing accusations directed at the mod team have run their course.
To be clear about where we stand: no one on this mod team supports Flock cameras. We are not law enforcement, we are not politically motivated, not maga, and we share the community’s concerns about surveillance overreach even if these systems occasionally assist in solving crimes.
The removals were not about viewpoint. They were about a specific category of comment: those encouraging users to destroy the cameras. Reddit has banned entire communities for less, and we are obligated to remove that content regardless of our personal opinions. This is a condition of the subreddit continuing to exist, not an endorsement of Flock. Additionally there were some very wild conspiracy theories and were asking for discussion not a rabbit hole.
One rule for this thread: do not recommend, insinuate, or hint at destruction as a solution. Everything else is open, criticism, policy discussion, legal challenges, city council contacts, organizing, data on effectiveness. Go as hard as you want within that boundary.
Thanks for being a genuinely great community and good neighbors.

We've been seeing more and more posts about school bus tickets in recent months. With schools starting up again I suspect we will begin to see even more questions. If you have questions regarding school bus tickets, please keep them limited to this megethread as we will be removing all posts moving forward.
If a school bus has it's stop arm out on the same road as you, you must stop regardless of which side you are. This applies to two lane (1 lane each way) multi lane roads and divided roadways (e.g. Broadhollow road, William Floyd Parkway1, etc). If the stop arm is out before you pass the bus, expect a ticket.
If you are driving perpendicular to another road that a bus is stopped on (i.e. they are at or near a stop sign on a road you are crossing), you are not required to stop. Proceed with caution and be aware of any children that may be crossing the road to get to the bus.
If they are on a side road, school lot or driveway adjacent to the roadway, you do not need to stop. Proceed with caution.
Flashing yellow lights do not mean stop; they mean to proceed with caution and to be prepared to stop. If you see flashing yellow lights, slow down and anticipate the stop sign being deployed. Sometimes a bus is waiting for students to pickup and may sit with flashing yellow lights for a number of minutes, so do not stop and block traffic if the stop sign is not out.
1 Note: There was some debate about this a few years ago. It is still a law, but there was a question regarding Suffolk County enforcement of the law.

My town is finally putting up this building after years of delays. We had gotten the 10 million dollar grant that many towns have gotten to redevelop downtown. Me, personally, I’m excited for it. My DT area is really run down and I’m hoping this will liven it up and bring new, young, money in.
My question is for those who have had this built in their towns, has it done anything for the local economy or changed anything in either direction about the character of your Downtown.
I’m aware that I’m posting this in the Land of NIMBY lol. But my town needs something like this IMHO.

I moved up here from the south about 2 years ago and I've been really craving some of the food I use to get back home. Specifically a place with fresh sausage and biscuits. I've noticed most places don't seem to serve them together, or they slather it all in gravy.
Really wanting it the way we had back home. Good sausage paddy (from a skillet) on a buttermilk biscuit with a dab of grape jelly.
Does anyone have recommendations for anywhere on Long Island (preferably not to far from Mineola though I'm willing to drive) that I can get a breakfast like this?

Hi, looking for a therapist to help with DPDR depersonalization de realization dissociation disorder that I believe came from 10 years of chronic stress or more with some big traumatic things that happened right before I developed mental health symptoms that I never had before.
Looking for someone who is really trained well in trauma, preferably has experience with dissociation. I’m interested in some of the therapies that I’ve read about like IFS internal family systems DBT, parts work, somatic, experiencing and somatic, touching, and EMDR or anything I might’ve missed that may be good for somebody trying to regain their life reconnect with himself and start over.

Our daughter is turning 16 in May 2027, and has expressed a desire for a proper Sweet 16 party. We've given her other options, ie taking her and a few friends for a trip, etc, but she is not interested in those ideas -- she wants a Sweet 16 party to celebrate with her family and friends.
The party will likely wind up being somewhere around ~100 people, and we are in the early phases of looking for a venue to have the occasion. While we want this to be a special occasion, we are looking to avoid the wedding-level event and price tag that comes with it. From the few places we've looked at so far, the price tag would be anywhere from $15-25k for the base package hall rental/food alone, not including entertainment, etc. That's way above what we're looking to spend on this event.
We could conceivably rent a tent and do it in our backyard for alot less, but feel like having it at a hall will be more "special" for her.
We live on the south shore of Nassau, and would be willing to travel 30 minutes in any direction. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for venues that could hold ~100 people, which will allow us to have an elegant party, at a reasonable price, and stay short of a wedding-level event? Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.

This building went through A LOT of brand name changes ! Originally W.T. Grant/Grant City (fall 1972-December 1975), later Woolco (March 1977-January 1983), then Caldor (May 26th of 1983-April 1999), and finally Kmart (November 14th of 1999-October 20th of 2024), then the last full size one in the mainland United States. This store is now a Target: https://massmarketretailers.com/target-gives-a-preview-of-new-bridgehampton-n-y-store-ahead-of-opening/

I have a steam radiator system, powered by oil. My oil tank is rusting on the bottom and it is definitely time to replace the tank. My oil furnace is about 14 years old, and my hot water heater is about 11 years old.
I already have gas lines running into my home - since the tank needs to be replaced anyway, is it worth just switching to gas at this point rather than replacing the tank? The cost to replace the whole system (with permits, new furnace, hot water heater, chimney flue, etc) is $19k.

Paul Lucia, 60, of Islip Terrace, pleaded guilty to Arson in the Second Degree and other related charges for setting fire to Riley Fibbers in East Islip. The defendant was irate that he was asked to leave the bar by staff members.
“The defendant admitted to intentionally setting fire to a local business, risking the lives of staff and patrons inside,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Violent crimes such as this will never be tolerated. The prison term he now faces holds the defendant accountable for what could have easily turned into an enormous tragedy.”
The evidence at trial established that, on November 20, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Lucia was a patron at Riley Fibbers Pub & Restaurant in East Islip when he was asked to leave by staff after taking a picture of one of the staff members.
The defendant drove away in a white Jeep Patriot and returned at approximately 7:30 p.m. with a gas can and a lighter. Video surveillance shows that Lucia exited the Jeep and dumped liquid from the gas can near the rear entrance of the restaurant. The entrance was open and occupied by patrons and employees at the time.
Shortly thereafter, flames erupted on the premises as Lucia walked back to his vehicle and threw the gas can over a fence onto the adjacent property. He then immediately drove away.
Riley Fibbers incurred fire damage to an exterior awning and the kitchen. Thankfully, no one was hurt or injured.
A witness at the scene provided a license plate number for the Jeep that Lucia was driving. Those plates were found to have been reported stolen one week prior to the arson.
Detectives with the Suffolk County Police Department’s Arson Squad conducted an investigation and recovered the cap to the gas can from a flowerpot outside the bar as well as the gas can from the adjacent property. A certified ignitable detection canine from the Suffolk County Fire Marshal’s Office was deployed at the scene and indicated the presence of ignitable liquids in several locations.
The following day, members of the Suffolk County Police Department located the defendant driving the white Jeep on Sunrise Highway and initiated a traffic stop. Lucia was placed under arrest, and a lighter that was used in the arson was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Hi everyone! My husband just got a job in Stonybrook and we were looking for the best places to live near that area; willing to commute up to half an hour to an hour! We are 25-29 and looking for lively, walkable neighbourhoods! We don’t have a budget, preferably more modern. So far we have looked into The Core at the Station Yards in Lake Ronkonkoma and The New Village in Patchogue. We would appreciate all the help! :)

Hello all!
I will be moving to long island for work. It will be around Amityville for reference. Which areas do ya'll recommend to live in to have a tolerable drive commute 30-45min that is more west. For example, how is hempstead, garden city, great neck, hicksville, etc. Google maps shows a range between 30m-1h15m. I cry. I'm accustomed to ~50min commute however I'd prefer below that.
Edit: I'll look for a place closer to work!

Im curious if anyone in law enforcement, bailiff, Sheriff's office etc can give their experience in dealing with bail reform.
My main question is, are the defendants showing up in court?
Secondly are the defendants who dont have to post bail comitting crime at a higher rate (While waiting for court dates)than when they were required to post bail?

We live on the east end (planning on moving to stony brook area around next year) and it gets so sleepy around here this time of year. Happy to drive if it weekly if that gets us out of the house. We play tennis pretty competitively, he loves football and would be open to literally anything!! Also looking for a church (with again people our age lol)

Beginner golfer here looking to get a good lesson, preferably not insanely expensive, basically need a lot of help with basic swing mechanics.
I am near the border of Suffolk and Nassau so looking around that area, I'm of heartland golf park in deer park since I work in that area, not sure about cost or any other pro at another range that might be a good fit?
