Information No political opinions period.

r/LittleRock is NOT a politics sub.

Anyone who introduces political opinion into a thread or makes a post espousing a political belief will receive, at minimum, a temporary ban from r/LittleRock. Do not engage anyone who has chosen to share their political views here on r/LittleRock or you will face the same consequence.

If you simply must express your political opinions, use r/Arkansas_Politics or find any one of the tens of thousands of political posts going on elsewhere that are active right now.

Coverage of political events by news outlets is allowed. Posting about upcoming events is allowed. Posts and comments about your political beliefs and opinions are NOT.

If you are unsure whether or not something would be acceptable, please, just reach out to us via modmail before posting.

I know everyone is damned near feral at present, but please have some restraint, and keep discussions that begin to butt up against political topics civil, dispassionate, and matter-of-fact.

Finally, this sub has always been against hate, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and bigotry in general. It always will be. These are not political issues, they are matters of basic human decency. If you have a problem with that, unsubscribe.

Edited to further clarify.

Avoid University and Colonel Glenn area for the next few hours if possible!!

AND DON'T TRY TO CUT THROUGH WALGREENS IF YOU'RE ALREADY THERE!

Something happened at the Circle K. There is a massive police/fire/ambulance response. They have the westbound lanes of Colonel Glenn completely blocked - no traffic getting through. Lots of people on southbound University trying to cut the intersection through Walgreens parking lot, but police have the exit blocked so no one's getting out that way.

Unfortunate crime at the Circle K and absolutely hellish drivers. Please take an alternative route even if it adds 15 minutes to your trip.

I have deleted my post criticizing Mclarty Nissan.

In my anger of my negative experience with them, I was trying to take revenge on them by giving them a bad reputation and I have now decided I don’t want to be like that. Part of my bad experience was partly my fault in accepting a crap deal. Just be informed wherever you go to buy a car and don’t cave at a crap deal and dont be impulsive.

Flock or not to Flock

On Oct 13th, Director Hines called Flock opposition "disingenuous" because phones track you, and Home Depot has cameras in its parking lot (https://youtu.be/uF6zvGM67Go?t=2428). That comparison doesn't hold up. Those are choices; Flock isn't.

- Don't like Depot's cameras? Shop at Fuller Hardware, Kraftco, Ace, Kaufman, or any local business that offers similar products and services.

- Don't want your phone tracking you? Don't pair Bluetooth to your car, keep Wi-Fi/BT off, turn off location, and use a VPN.

- City Flock cameras at intersections? No opt-out. Drive in Little Rock and you're in the database. An officer sees one plate.

Flock logs every car, every intersection.

Some big-box lot cameras are Flock, and stores can share that data with police, so they aren't separate from the city system. It's the same network reaching into private lots. In June, the Supreme Court ruled police need a warrant for phone location history. Flock builds the same kind of location history for cars, with no warrant. That gap is why guardrails matter.

LRPD doesn't need a warrant to search Flock data.

- 114 cameras logged ~701,000 vehicles in the last 30 days. Every read is kept 30 days and shared with other agencies around the state.

- We're paying ~$345K/yr for the subscription, roughly five fully equipped patrol cars every year.

- Misuse is already happening. Vice Mayor Wyrick cited four incidents since May. The public only knows because KATV asked; LRPD's audit results aren't posted anywhere.

LRPD does have a Flock transparency portal, but it's hosted by the vendor, not linked anywhere on the City's website, and blocks VPN users: https://transparency.flocksafety.com/little-rock-ar-pd. It gives a camera count but not locations. The only maps are crowdsourced, third-party sites.

Simple requests:

- Link the portal from LRPD's and littlerock.gov's sites.

- Publish where the 114 cameras are.

- Publish the list of agencies LRPD shares Flock data with.

- Post the six-month statistics state law already requires (Ark. Code § 12-12-1805): scans, matches, arrests.

- Post audit results publicly after each audit, monthly or quarterly: number of searches audited, violations found, and what was done about them.

Bottom line: choice vs. no choice is the whole issue. Director Phillips is bringing back the transparency ordinance, possibly with a Flock non-renewal amendment. It failed 3–5 in December with two absent and needs six "Yes" to pass. It's worth calling or emailing your director before it comes up.

Our plates are "public data," but the camera locations and audit results aren't? Transparency should run both ways.

Things to do in Little Rock — right now?

Post image
8 Upvotes

We built now.me to answer the "what should we do tonight?" question without digging through five different sites.

The Little Rock live events website lists things to do, shows, concerts, and events coming up around town. Worth a look if you're planning the weekend.

The app (iPhone / iOS / Android) goes beyond events. Open it wherever you are and it shows what's nearby right now: restaurants, bars, museums, and other things to do.

It's completely free and we are actively working on it, so feedback from people who live here is really valuable. If something's missing or wrong for Little Rock, let me know in the comments or by DM.

Discussion/Question Help with three noodle broth

Moved away a bit back but was craving three noodle. I’m sure I can go find similar stuff around me now but was actually wondering if anyone had any idea how to make it. I’ll make dumplings in an Asian broth some and it’s fine but never to the level of three noodles. Anyone got any recipe similar?

Wii balance board?

My dad went through physical therapy and used a wii there. He is not really progressing more after discharge. Im thinking of trying to entice him to continue with a game. Anybody have any experience with teaching an elderly person how to wii? Anybody have a balance board they are no longer using? Im not going to get one on ebay with the stupendous price of shipping (!) if he wont use it.

Discussion/Question Esporta to genesis switch-over

Did anyone who had a premier esporta membership or other membership that allowed access to all esporta clubs have any trouble continuing to use multiple locations now that they are all genesis locations?

I only ever used one location while it was esporta but I was thinking of switching locations eventually and wondered if others have done this. Especially since my presence wasn't known at the other locations before the switch and the workers always give me trouble with this stuff and try to tack on charges and are confrontational.

I figure if I had used another location while it was still esporta, they'd have me in the system and it would be no problem but I never went.

BEWARE: Driving south on Chenal from Cantrell

I’m angry, so I apologize in advance for whatever. When you drive south down Chenal from Cantrell — that’s where the Walmart, Layne’s Chicken, and Jersey Mike’s are — you’ll pass by New Life Church and then go through a traffic light. You’ll see cones moved off the road, presumably to be redeployed or collected later. You’ll see a sign or two that says WORK ZONE AHEAD, but they’re also moved off the road, and the road itself is free to drive on.

I know people appreciate that ARDOT is repaving many of the roads around Little Rock. Lord knows I certainly do. But in the case of this stretch of road I just described, there are still great big fucking holes in the road. Not literally holes, obviously, but the length of the road they’re gonna be repaving. Yeah, hitting that at 40-45 MPH is gonna ruin somebody’s car. I braked hard enough before hitting the other end of the hole, but the impact and noise were still horrible.

Almost literally unbelievable. They moved the cones and left a big hole in the road for people to crash into.

EDIT: Thanks for hearing me out while I vent, everyone. I do want to leave one edit indicating that I was mistaken to mention ARDOT in this post, as Chenal Parkway is managed by the city of Little Rock itself, not the Arkansas Department of Transportation. I also downloaded Little Rock’s 311 app and reported the matter last night, and I received a message this morning around 7:30 indicating it had been resolved. What that means or whether there’s an actual resolution is beyond me, as I’ve not driven down Chenal this morning.

Moving to Little Rock from SC.

Moving from Columbia, SC beginning of next year with my wife and young kiddo. Looking at the Maumelle area or Indian Hill / Millers Crossing / Gibson area. Biggest factor is schools for us though not saying much coming from SC. I’ve also heard Benton or Cabot are good areas to look?

To clarify, I’ll be working out of North Little Rock but trying to keep the commute to 30min.

What areas do you all recommend????

Little Rock Costco - bakery - frosting tubs for sale?

Does anyone know if the big tubs of frosting are for sale to regular (not wholesale) customers? It’s in the bakery section usually under the tables with the baked goods on them, but I haven’t been in a while.
