Equipment operator

I’m going to line school in a few months, (i know everyone says just get your cdl and sign the books), but i got a scholarship for 60% of it. Might be a dumbass question (apologies in advance), but Is there a such thing as a line equipment operator? I’m reading Google and it says you run the bucket, digger Derrick, dozers, and excavators for the line crew? I’m curious on payscales in Texas and overtime availability/storms.

BJJ and Lineman trade viable or pick one?

Trained jiu jitsu for about a year and a half before work picked up and I decided to enjoy life a bit this summer. and Now I have fears of returning for the possibility of an injury. I miss the sport like crazy but if i take a serious injury it could really impact my career.

Does anyone here train martial arts of any kind in the trade? What is your opinion?

The gym is getting boring for me and I really miss it. I trained regularly for the first couple months of my apprenticeship.

23m need opinion

Hey yall I have been running a mobile detail business for the last 3-4 years and it’s time for me to add a stable income in my life so I can start a family.

I want to become a lineman and I need opinions if I should pay 2500 to get my class A and sign the ground man books then try and become a lineman from there. Or do I pull a student loan out and join northwest lineman college.
Live in the Bay Area btw
Thanks!

US to British Columbia

Looking for a change of scenery, I like the Vancouver area and just BC in general from my trips there.

Has anyone gone from the US to Canada for work? Is the visa process hard, do Canadian contractors hire on US union lineman? What's the culture and work life like out there?

Window washer drone. Apparently he took off and it immediately got pulled into the transmission. EMF perhaps fucking with the signal would be my guess.

The hose line eventually melted and the drone smashed onto the floor.

Guy was an idiot playing on flying so close to a powerline.

138kv line. (Edited!) my b long day.

CAST A EXAM 901: DISTRIBUTION TEST

Took this test 10 years ago and failed, just got the results in from taking it again on Monday and PASSED! I didn’t think I would because I guessed on a few questions because I ran out of time on two sections. Feels great to have conquered it, I’m not a good test taker.

Will DWAI affect me?

Hi everyone.

I’m currently looking to get into a lineman apprenticeship.

I have a DWAI permanently on my record.

Will this disqualify me from work? Does anyone here have similar experience?

Thank you

Union JL Test

Hey y’all, I’m taking my JL test through local 876 on saturday but was told by the hall there is no study guide. Are all tests through the halls pretty much the same? If so, can anyone let me know what to study? Took my JL test through the state apprenticeship then came to the IBEW and now taking that test to become an IBEW JL. Don’t worry i did a four year 8000 hour apprenticeship i’m not ratty. Just did it working at a utility. Thanks for any help.

Does your company have an hour limit on a single shift? Is emergency work exempt?

There was a post over in r/IBEW about an apprentice who was going to work a 22 hour shift between classroom instruction and his regular shift. And boy did the inside guys lose their minds. In my career I’ve worked countless 16s, a ton of 24s and dozens of 36s. There was a time when storm restoration started with 40/8, then 17/7 until the event was complete. What’s the rule or standard at your company?

Thinking of getting into the trade

Hey guys, I’ve been thinking of getting into linework. I’ve been a heart surgeon for 26 years but I really think this is my calling. I’m 103 years old, is that ok? Also, which boots should I buy? Before anybody mouths off, I can outdig and outwork anybody you’ve ever met. I also routinely use a step stool so I already know heights aren’t a concern.

Basically what I’m asking is who needs a turnkey JL?

What would cause this?

I have been told this high voltage fuse "deteriorated" and that consumers would experience "voltage dips before a complete loss of supply occurred." However, my own reading has suggested "a massive electrical fault or a catastrophic failure" potentially damaging sensitive equipment. Any opinions welcome.

NWLine pre-interview and skills assessment

I just got an email for a the aptitude test but it’s also saying there’s a pre interview, slideshow orientation, and skills assessment on the same day. Can anyone tell me what I should expect from the pre interview and skills assessment? Is the pre interview actually the interview that will get me ranked? Should I go practice climbing and get comfy with my tools?

He said kids go the whole 4yr apprenticeship without ever having a single day off, and if you leave a day your kicked out
As well as if you fail a single test your kicked out.

I just wanna know is this talk is true or not from yall
Or is this mf is fooling me

SCL apprenticeship working test

I just got selected to do the working test for seattle city light. Do y'all have any recommendations on things i should practice before I do it next week? Im not concerned about the pullups, the grip strength, and the upright row but I want to prepare for the other techical stuff i have to do.

The website said that it is a "hands-on test to demonstrate your mechanical aptitude, knowledge of tools and electrical equipment, typical working skills, safety, work speed, and the ability to follow directions"

Anyone gone through the hiring process and can explain in more detail whats on it. Thanks for yalls help.
