any decent coffee shops in Leicester for working on a laptop?

i work remote some days and need places with decent WiFi and power outlets. not looking for fancy pour overs. just somewhere I can sit for a couple hours without getting the stink eye after one coffee. tried a couple spots near the center last week and one had no outlets at all. another kept playing music so loud I couldn't focus. any recommendations that actually work for getting stuff done? bonus if the coffee doesn't taste like burnt water

Late Night Music Around Abbey Park

Im by abbey park and have been hearing music for the last 3 or so nights, it keeps starting after 12am and lasts till around 3am each time.

Lots of bass, but sounds more tied to a cultural celebration than rave type.

Any idea what it is?

Looking for a reliable and affordable car under £3.5k

Hi everyone please can yoi help me find a car under £3500 that is reliable and affordable without a bad service history. I've been looking for days and I can only seem to find cars that price with lots of failed MOTs or front tyre issues.

I am looking for a car ideally in Leicester or max 30 miles from leicester

It would be my first car and I would like it to last quite some time but I just can't find one with good history.

Thank you

Starting a mixed-gender book club in Leicester exploring masculinity through literature – anyone interested?

Post image

Hey everyone!

I’m putting together a new book club in Leicester (venue TBD dependent on numbers but will be Leicester city centre) focused on exploring masculinity through literature, and wanted to see if anyone here would be interested in joining.

The idea is to bring people of all genders together to read some genuinely great books, share different perspectives and have interesting, constructive conversations about masculinity and how it affects all of us.

I’d particularly like to create a space where men feel comfortable talking openly about their experiences of masculinity, women can share their perspectives and experiences of it, and everyone has an opportunity to listen, question and better understand one another.

Our first three books are:

📖 5 November – The Remains of the Day, Kazuo Ishiguro (245 pages)
A brilliant novel exploring duty, emotional repression, regret and the consequences of living according to other people’s expectations.

📖 26 November – Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk (208 pages)
A provocative exploration of masculinity, alienation, identity and violence in modern society.

📖 17 December – Giovanni’s Room, James Baldwin (159 pages)
A powerful novel exploring sexuality, shame, intimacy and the struggle to accept who you are.

A few things worth mentioning:

Everyone is welcome, regardless of gender, sexuality or background. The group is explicitly LGBTQ+ and trans friendly.

You absolutely don’t need an academic background or any particular knowledge of literature.

This isn’t intended to become a gender war or a competition about who has it worse. The aim is to understand different experiences, not dismiss them.

Equally, intellectual snobbery and belittling people for their education, reading ability or opinions won’t be welcome. Curiosity and respect matter far more than how many books you’ve read.

The format will be pretty relaxed. We’ll read the book beforehand, meet up in Leicester, discuss the themes and characters, share our interpretations and see where the conversation takes us. There’ll be some discussion questions to get things moving, but it won’t be anything overly structured or academic.

I’m still finalising the venue depending on numbers, but the plan is to meet somewhere relaxed and accessible in Leicester city centre.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, drop me a comment or DM. You can also WhatsApp me on 07946 569269** **and I can add you to the group - I’m trying to gauge numbers currently.

Would be great to get a diverse group of people together for some interesting conversations and hopefully build a little community around it!

There will be flyers around town this weekend too!

Can someone help me with something in Highcross?

Hi there, I need a photo of the sign posted on Suit Directs store where it mentions it will close every day from Monday to Friday I believe at 7pm, wanted to make a complaint because they closed the store early.

I was 30mins early and only wanted a measurement at this stage due to limited time but they would only provide it if I bought a suit, now bearing in mind, with 30mins left of the store closing, to spend money on a suit and leave by then doesn’t leave me enough time to make an informed decision.

It may not amount to anything but I still want to complain for the sake of it.

TL:DR

I wanted to get measurements checked, they closed the store 30mins early compared to the advertised time on the storefront which was stating closing at 7pm (despite google maps saying 8pm) and I would like to complain due to this.

JO QUAIL - RENOWNED CELLIST PERFORMS IN LC NEXT WEEK

Post image
13 Upvotes

Next week on the 21st October, we bring internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist Jo Quail to Leicester.

For those that aren’t aware, Jo draws on many influences such as contemporary classical, metal, avant-garde, and experimental music to create very immersive and powerful compositions

We also have support from Harmonium based dark folk project Greet, who will be making their Leicester debut!

We had Jo in Leicester last year and for those that came down will know what an incredible performance it was, over half the tickets are gone for what will be a very incredible evening.

Laser hair removal for men

Hey everybody,

I am looking to take around 10 sessions of full body laser treatment + intimate area pubis.

Where should i go with a good deal and skilled technician?

My skin tone is slightly pale, any device works on my skin or should i look into a specific device to get the best results.

And lastly, is 10 sessions enough? As i want to get tatoo, i can't do laser on it so i want to see if 10 sessiins gonna last me like decades or not

Thank you for yor insight!

Not red Leicester! (Spain)

I live in Mallorca (Originally from Leicester)

This was in the supermarket here in Spain.

I can see what they were going for.

I mean, if they had spelt it "Lesta" they may have got away with it!

(Translation on the pack by the way is orange cheese)

Interestingly, it has a union jack on it and the back says made in Barcelona!

Any part time jobs around?

Hi everybody, currently looking for some sort of part time job. Honestly speaking don’t have any experience so this would be my first job but I am willing to learn the skills and do what I have to. If anyone knows places hiring for part time availability or anything of that sort drop down a reply.
I’m 18 currently full time in college, so part time will be ideal for me.

Abbey lane red light cameras

Hi everyone. I passed my test on 07/10 and last night I was driving abbey lane. I was on the side going into town and the lights turned amber going past the stop line and red as I went through the lights, I was doing 30 but there were cars behind me and I didn’t think I could stop safely. I didn’t get flashed but I am worried that there is a red light camera on that side. And then like 4 hours later I was coming back up st Margaret’s way and I went through the lights on amber. Am I going to get tickets for it?

For someone driving daily out of Oadby to Birmingham or Derby, is there any way out of the hell that is the Fosse Park gridlock?

Genuinely losing my mind here and need to know if I'm missing some secret local knowledge or if we're all just trapped in a shared psychological torture experiment.

I commute daily from Oadby heading out towards the M1/M69 towards Birmingham, or up towards Derby/Chesterfield, and trying to get past the Fosse Park / Soar Valley Way / Meridian stretch at 7:00 AM or 5:00 PM feels like an absolute trap.

A route that should take 50 minutes routinely gets bloated to 1 hour 30 on a decent day, and a soul-crushing 2 hours when things go sideways. I've tried delaying leaving work, thinking I could wait it out, but even if I roll out at 7:00 PM, it's still bumper-to-bumper blockages right around there.

I’ve only lived in Leicester for about 7 years now, so I have to ask the long-timers: Has it always been this relentlessly awful? How far back in the past does this gridlock go? And more importantly, is there actually any infrastructure plan on the horizon to fix it, or are we just destined to watch our fuel gauges/ will to live empty while staring at the back of a lorry forever?

If anyone has alternate rat-runs or clever workarounds bypassing the south-west side from Oadby without adding 30 miles to the trip, I am all ears. I can't move as I live with my partner and can't afford my own place.
