But my credit card says I do... M4-P just added to the family

Took the 246M and the M8 to the UK for an outing. Wandered into Kai W's haunts and ended up buying another camera (it's minty fresh)

I got these cufflinks a few years ago and just came to the realization that they are almost and exact model of a Leica III f.

Wondering if anyone has seen anything like these before...

The details are shockingly accurate

Leica M10-M + M10-P or M11-P

(TLDR: should I trade two M10s for an M11P?)

Hi Leica community,

I’ve been thinking a lot about my workflow and process with my digital M cameras. I currently own an M10-P and an M10 Monochrom, and I’m considering consolidating both into a single M11-P.

I bought the M10-P about three years ago, and it became my main camera alongside my M6 and MP. After realizing I was converting almost everything to black and white, I picked up an M10 Monochrom about a year ago. I was initially skeptical of the sensor’s benefits and planned to return it within the window, but of course, I fell in love with it, and now I have two digital M bodies.

The problem is that the Monochrom is almost too good. Between the resolution, tonality, and overall look of the files, it’s basically cannibalized not only my M10-P but also my 35mm and 120 film photography. It almost feels like a cheat code and I’m torn between leaning into it or returning to a more traditional film and digital workflow. I’ve also been feeling the need to simplify my kit. I don’t want to be a collector, and I like the idea of having one dedicated digital M rather than constantly choosing between bodies. So I’m considering trading both M10s for a used M11-P, which would give me the resolution I’ve grown accustomed to, a more practical camera with the conveniences of the M11 generation, and potentially some cash back.

My biggest hesitation is losing the Monochrom. It’s truly a special camera, and I have a feeling I’d regret selling it. I shoot like 85% black and white so it feels like it's made for me - but I'm wrestling with the practicality of owning it long term.

Looking for some advice from photographers who made a similar move - did it feel freeing, or did you regret it?

My current kit for context:
M10 Monochrom - primary digital
M10-P - used occasionally
SL2-S - for occasional client work, portraits, and film scanning
MP - primary 35mm
M6 - first film M
Minolta TC-1 - P&S
Mamiya 7 - main 120

Thanks in advance - looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

Edit: For clarity I’m not a professional photographer, but photography is a big part of my life. I mostly shoot landscapes and environmental portraits in a post-documentary style, and printing is an increasingly important part of my practice.

The other thing to acknowledge is that I have an awesome setup already… these are just the things I think about when I go through phases of working too much and not shooting enough, when cameras are sitting on the shelf unused!

Both used with some patina, but both are fully functional.

I sold VM 28 2.8 for the old 28 3.5 LTM

Vm 28 2.8 is pretty good as a walk-around lens nowadays, but modern CV lenses (with new coatings and new types of glasses) tend to show too much cyan in the shadow for my taste (especially on my Leica M9). I much prefer the neutral and vivid color from original CV 28 3.5 LTM.

Despite its amazing build quality (full brass body) and good image rendering in such a small size, CV 28 3.5 LTM was never a popular lens during its relatively short production time (2002-2007), so unfortunately a good copy is hard to find nowadays.

Extender L 2.0x and Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400

Does anybody have any experience with the Leica 2x TC and the 100-400? I'm looking at picking one up for some extra reach for occasional moon photography.

Also, has anybody tried the Sigma TC-2011 with the Leica 100-400? If I can get away with using that and not have any IQ loss (besides what I'd expect by using a TC) I'd probably go that route considering that it's about half the cost.

I don't mind paying for the Leica branded extender if that's the way to go, though.

Looking to get a Leica M2 - Advice

Hi everyone, a rangefinder style Leica camera has been my dream camera for a while now and I am looking at taking the plunge at getting one. I currently shoot on a Minolta XG and I was looking at the Leica M2 the most mainly due to cost and it being a decent chunk cheaper for the rest. Is the Leica M2 any good compared to the other Leicas or is their a catch since it is quite a bit cheaper? I don't think I'll mind the lack of a light meter if I can get it on my phone.

Leica M6 from 1985 - need advice

Hi. I got a offer for a Leica M6 0.72 from most likely from 1985 - it got a CLA in 2020.

1900 Euro

My question: I know Leica is sturdy and durable.

Is there anything I need to be aware of, or are there any general reasons not to buy a Leica this old—even though it's been inspected?
Thank you!

Time for a new cover on my m4-2

I have a Aki Asahi cover on my M4-2 right now but want something that's softer/finer leather. I really like the cover that came with my M240, is there anything out there like that for a replacement? I'm aware of artedimano.com (I think their black goat or dollaro options look close) but are there any other options I should consider?

Leica m6 Service germany

Hot shoe doesn’t work properly and pc sync broken too. Anyone knows a place in Germany to send in for repair? I don’t want to send to Wetzlar, last time I send in my m10p took them 5 months and my m6 over a year. That’s the reason why I can’t shoot professionally on Leica and I need my Canon system…
I pay extra for fast service, like you do with canon professional service, but Leica doesn’t offer this, as far as I know.

Leica rental! Has anyone rented or leased it out?

I’m wondering is it a viable way to lease out the camera to have some side income for food and gas when Leica enthusiasts get older…

Risk is of course someone dropping or stealing it. And need to buy insurance coverage for these

Does anyone have a viewfinder shot with a 35mm lens at 0.85x?

I'm currently considering the M7, and I'm thinking about a 0.85x camera.
I can see images on Google, but I want to see photos with the actual viewfinder

Dumb question

I mated a 28mm Elmarit to my M6. It seems like the focus patch would s really way off on infinity. I have a test roll in the camera now but I was wondering if anyone has insight. It’s not just slightly off but what seems to be a decent amount of separation between the two.

I need help for my m10p

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue. My Leica M10‑P shuts down very slowly. I have tried resetting the camera, changing the memory card, updating the firmware, and various other methods found online, but the problem persists. After I flip the power switch to off, the red indicator light stays on for 3‑5 seconds. What’s more, the camera can still be operated during this period before it finally powers down. What on earth is causing this?

Profoto Connect Pro stuck to Leica Q3

Thumbnail

Bought a secondhand Connect Pro off Unclaimed Baggage. I was super stoked they actually had one for Leica. I popped it on as soon as I got it to try with my new A2. It didn’t work so I figured I’d take it off to troubleshoot. Doesn’t budge. So I look around and see “For Canon” in fine print under the trigger 😌. Now it’s stuck. I search Reddit. Find similar situation. I order the T6 torx and needle nose pliers and some painters tape to protect the edges of the camera. One of the two screws comes off easily but the second is angled too far inward and there isn’t enough space between the trigger and camera to get the tool in there. I searched for an angled t6 but could only find fat ones or others where the width exceeded the clearance. I search Reddit again. Find similar situation again. Someone said you can wedge open the side that has the removed screw and lift the pin with the pliers. I wedged too much, separated the ribbon and broke the trigger lol. But after that I was able to confirm that the pin does indeed need to be lifted to release the trigger from the hot shoe. Posting to hopefully spare someone the same fate.

Just reskinned and painted my M4-2

My M4-2 came with shipped paint in the Leica letterings and the leatherette that left black stain on my white shirts. So I decided to give it a makeover.

The leatherette is from Aki Asahi and I used Tamiya enamel paint to black out the logo. Pretty satisfy with the result!

M2 Flash socket adapter help!

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I've had a kaiser model PC adapter for my Leica M2 for years, but one of the inner metal components (a ring around the socket for where the PC cable's center pin would fit in) came loose, and the cable started falling out of my camera often, and the connection is generally not secure enough to reliably fire my flash when I press the shutter.

To fix this I recently bought the threaded adapter on the left, but the center opening of the adapter won't accommodate the center pin on the PC cable, the opening seems too small to fit it. It's also an extremely snug fit in my camera, and so far I have not been able to reliably take it back with my bare hands alone.

I've included in the picture the Kaiser adapter on the right for comparison, and a picture of the PC cable I'm using, which fit the Kaiser, but was too loose.

Just looking to see if anyone knows about the threaded adapters, if I wasted my money on it, or whether there's something off about my PC cable. Any help is appreciated!
