Looking to get a Leica M2 - Advice

Hi everyone, a rangefinder style Leica camera has been my dream camera for a while now and I am looking at taking the plunge at getting one. I currently shoot on a Minolta XG and I was looking at the Leica M2 the most mainly due to cost and it being a decent chunk cheaper for the rest. Is the Leica M2 any good compared to the other Leicas or is their a catch since it is quite a bit cheaper? I don't think I'll mind the lack of a light meter if I can get it on my phone.

75mm or back to the APO Lanthar 50mm

Hey,

I'm currently restructuring my kit. I used to own a 50mm APO Lanthar and loved the rendering, transitions but sadly I sold it for a Summicron 50mm V5. Couldn't bond at all with the latter so it's up for sale.

I'm not much of a 50mm person and if (on the Lanthar at least) I cropped in. So I'm thinking whether the 75mm APO Summicron could solve that. What I appreciated about the APO Lanthar was the perfection and look without actually stating 'hey, i'm perfect'. Used to have the APO Skopar 90mm/2.8 but that was somewhat 'dry' in its rendering apart from the fact that 90mm doesn't work for me on an M. It's too tight and then again not long enough.

I'm constantly looking into the 75mm options that are availabe. Yes, the Simera looks nice but I don't particularly like the handling. The Nokton 75/1.5 could be something maybe.. but then again I wonder if that doesn't get too soft. Plus the vignetting on many VM lenses. The 75mm/2.8 APO Skopar is too slow. And well. Portraits are not my focus really.

So where am I going with this? If anyone has/had both the APO Lanthar 50mm and APO Summicron 75mm... I'd be happy to read about their experience and how they compare. From the little photos I could find (that don't show just wide open shots of of plants, kids and cats) I think the Cron leans a little more 'classic' than the APO Lanthar.

Anyways.. any feedback is highly and appreciated. As subjective as it might be =)

Thank you.

I got these cufflinks a few years ago and just came to the realization that they are almost and exact model of a Leica III f.

Wondering if anyone has seen anything like these before...

The details are shockingly accurate

But my credit card says I do... M4-P just added to the family

Took the 246M and the M8 to the UK for an outing. Wandered into Kai W's haunts and ended up buying another camera (it's minty fresh)

Leica M10-M + M10-P or M11-P

(TLDR: should I trade two M10s for an M11P?)

Hi Leica community,

I’ve been thinking a lot about my workflow and process with my digital M cameras. I currently own an M10-P and an M10 Monochrom, and I’m considering consolidating both into a single M11-P.

I bought the M10-P about three years ago, and it became my main camera alongside my M6 and MP. After realizing I was converting almost everything to black and white, I picked up an M10 Monochrom about a year ago. I was initially skeptical of the sensor’s benefits and planned to return it within the window, but of course, I fell in love with it, and now I have two digital M bodies.

The problem is that the Monochrom is almost too good. Between the resolution, tonality, and overall look of the files, it’s basically cannibalized not only my M10-P but also my 35mm and 120 film photography. It almost feels like a cheat code and I’m torn between leaning into it or returning to a more traditional film and digital workflow. I’ve also been feeling the need to simplify my kit. I don’t want to be a collector, and I like the idea of having one dedicated digital M rather than constantly choosing between bodies. So I’m considering trading both M10s for a used M11-P, which would give me the resolution I’ve grown accustomed to, a more practical camera with the conveniences of the M11 generation, and potentially some cash back.

My biggest hesitation is losing the Monochrom. It’s truly a special camera, and I have a feeling I’d regret selling it. I shoot like 85% black and white so it feels like it's made for me - but I'm wrestling with the practicality of owning it long term.

Looking for some advice from photographers who made a similar move - did it feel freeing, or did you regret it?

My current kit for context:
M10 Monochrom - primary digital
M10-P - used occasionally
SL2-S - for occasional client work, portraits, and film scanning
MP - primary 35mm
M6 - first film M
Minolta TC-1 - P&S
Mamiya 7 - main 120

Thanks in advance - looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

Edit: For clarity I’m not a professional photographer, but photography is a big part of my life. I mostly shoot landscapes and environmental portraits in a post-documentary style, and printing is an increasingly important part of my practice.

The other thing to acknowledge is that I have an awesome setup already… these are just the things I think about when I go through phases of working too much and not shooting enough, when cameras are sitting on the shelf unused!
