🚨👴🚨Mod Post🚨👵🚨 Outgoing class of 2026

Hi all,

It's that time of year! The LC is done! The study, the exams, the wait, the results, and 2 rounds of offers. Congratulations to everyone who got a course they wanted, and congratulations to everyone else for just making it through. Wherever you're ending up, make the most of it. We get out of life what we put into it, no matter where we are. I know someone who did theoretical physics in trinity who ended up making sandwiches* and someone who did a PLC who's making 200k a year. Put in the work and you will do well. And take some risks. Life is full of opportunities but sometimes you need to risk something to gain something.

Anyway, this post is not goodbye but it is a change of the guard. With LC2026 done and dusted we still start removing posts about starting uni, choosing/starting PLCs, looking for accommodation etc. after this weekend, because the class of 2027 has just started 6th year and this space is now for them. Posts about later CAO offer rounds will still be allowed.

I hope that a few of you stick around to offer advice to the new 6th years, they will need plenty! And even if you don't, I want to wish you the best of luck with your studies, your careers, and the rest of your lives.

Slán,

Lamp

* most of the class are doing a lot better than that!

English 📖 comparative cooking me

I am currently doing my first 70 mark question for the comparative, safe to say its not going well. My three texts are, Small Things like These, Macbeth and the Shawshank Redemption

I am finding this very frustrating as I do really well in Paper 1 with usually getting H1s or H2s but I am really struggling with this. I find the analysing quite difficult, which is especially frustrating as I would be quite vocal in class when talking about the three texts but with the actual essay I have no idea what to say or how to phrase what I want to say.

I want to study English in the future and become an English teacher but now I am questioning if that is the right path for me. Especially since studying English is very analytical and Paper 2 focused. I am thinking maybe its a lack of critical thinking, but I am unsure.

Any tips or advice?

Geography 🗺 I'm highly confused with the long questions

Guys I'm so confused all the answers you'd get from study clix or ai are like way too long and they repeat information and its not clear which statements are srps or not.

Specifically I'm trying to find an answer to constructive plate booundaries bc I don't have much info in my book about them. I'm so confused

Am I cooked? 🍳 Is it over for me?

I’m basically failing all my classes and they’re meant to be easy ones too, like business, economics but now don’t even get me started on English and Maths. Maybe it’s that I don’t know how to study? Or I don’t do it properly or a severe lack of consistency but even then I’ve tried so hard lately and was actually locked in, I studied so hard and was expecting at least a H2 but nope there was none of that and I think since I tried so hard and got nothing out of it I was really disappointed and ended up being lazy and neglecting everything the past week.

To top it off we’ve the projects as well and I basically haven’t started but I’ve 4 whole projects to do due to my subject choices. The courses I wanted are at 600 but now I’d even be lucky to get 300 even.

I’m so disappointed in myself, I thought if I tried hard enough and put in the work, it would’ve been okay but everything I had in mind was just unrealistic and I’m never going to amount to what I wanted.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore, should I really just accept defeat and that I’m dumb?

PLCs 📖 Plc feels too relaxed?

Yo, im like 5 weeks into my plc but it feels like ive done nothing, teaches just talk at us, zero exams, barely any assignments, only 2 that are due in months time, im finding it hard to do said assignments as we've done zero work in class so i don't have the foundation to do them well. Am I going insane? I expected a heavier workload and i need 8 distinctions for progression to my desired course next year but I feel frustrated with the lack of work and im starting to worry about achieving the distinctions because of how little we've done. This lowkey feels like a gap year with attendance obligation. If anyone has already done a plc I would appreciate advice.

5th year 👶👶 Anyone using studytok?

Been using StudyTok a bit for studying for the LC and it’s actually pretty handy. It has past exam papers built into the app for different subjects, so you can practise questions without having to keep looking for papers online. Has a few other useful features for revision too. I found a code literally is just the name gary that apparently gives you 7 days free and then a discount off StudyTok Pro, if anyone wants to try it out.

Thought I’d share in case it helps anyone else 👍

Chemistry ⚗️ chemistry aac opinions

For my chemistry aac i’m investigating how surface area affects rate of reaction by dissolving paracetamol tablets in HCl. I’m just worried that it’s too close to the marble chips experiment. Is anyone doing anything similar?

Irish 🇮🇪 I missed my Irish oral for the October exams

My October exams start next week and today was my Irish oral, it was 6 sraith pictures and a conversation about college.. but I didn’t go in for it and I feel so guilty .

I know it’s important and I missed out on 40% but I just couldn’t do it. Thing is our teacher makes us do our oral infront of the entire class she makes us pull a chair up at her desk and do it INFRONT OF EVERYONE, ive done this twice now for my summer and Christmas exams last year but this year it was too nerve wracking I always know everything on the oral I never not know it but being infront of my whole class I forget everything and I fail. I’ve asked her to please can I do it in private but she says no

Am I cooked? 🍳 Anyone studying yet??

Over a month into 6th year and i haven’t done an actual lick of study…
I’ve done my homework like actually by myself but in terms of genuine study i just haven’t gotten to it yet and it’s kinda stressing me out because im not exactly the brightest of them all

any past students wanna comment on what they did and any other 6th years wanna let me know how it’s going for them??

Am I cooked? 🍳 I am NOT studying until the mocks

I will do homework and study for tests but there is no way I am studying fifth year material yet. Is this a 600+ points mindset?

PLCs 📖 In a plc- considering dropping out, trying next year or moving courses.

Basically, i'm doing a year long plc after the lc, subjects are fine and everything but the people are genuinely unbearable, especially considering we are doing a project. The one girl i was kind of hanging out, older then me but seemed a little emotionally stunted, turned out to be a social climber and constantly tries to interrupt me when i try to talk with another girl and tries to take hold of the conversation talking with her, is sort of trying to avoid and ditch me, especially considering after we went out on an outing that i thought was great (although she did miss a few social cues and cause a few people to look at us so i tried to get to be a little more quiet since she was talking at a really loud volume, i can't tell if she's upset for that especially since i would say 'sorry, can we whisper instead since other people blah blah and she hugged me afterwords and told me it was great). My last breaking point was when i joined a group with her and another person after being absent (in an assignment, which i asked her to update me if anything important came up and she promised she would do so but then ghosted me- i understand not wanting to explain, i'm not owed but it's a little awkward to be ignored after being promised) - she told me she would add me to the project instantly but continues to ghost me and the worst part is this project is like a good amount of marks! I have loads of more group projects coming up in the future, i have social anxiety and depression and used to miss school due to past bullying and isolation incidents, it took everything in me to not cry at my classes, which confuses me as i confided in said girl about this and she related saying she was bullied too (mainly due to the fact she is quite nerdy looking and when i first saw her i assumed she was a trans man as her hair and style was quite short so she had a hard time fitting in too). I just feel upset and i'm dreading everyday to the point i've resorted to other ways to keep myself calm. Everyone in the plc has friends and cliques already (exactly like secondary- i was told it wouldn't be like that but almost everything is the same) I don't know what to do- do i leave this plc and push it to another next year or is there anyplace online that i can do some of my required studies in said plc and maybe come in like once or twice a week. Sorry if i sound incoherent i'm just super stressed. I'm just so annoying, nothing has changed and it's causing me to to go back into my shell

😎 Positive Vibes 😎 I got grinds360

I really wish it wasn’t so useful but it is. Maybe because I spent so much money that I’m so motivated to study and do well. I just wish it wasn’t so much money but apart from that it’s good. Or maybe I’m gaslighting myself because I paid so much that it has to be good ? Okay I’m done bye
