looking for knitting for social media groups & network

Hi, I love watching other knitters chat about their projects and vlog their progress whilst im curled up on the sofa knitting. I recently started a youtube channel, and have been making videos mostly for friends on tiktok for a while.

I'm wondering if there are any knitting/craft content groups here on reddit to discuss, and share making content.

For me knitting is a hobby and i intend to keep youtube the same but I've always loved editing and filming so this seemed like a natural path to explore for me.

I hope this is okay to post in this forum, please comment or dm to get in touch <33

A knitting-loving student researching an at-home digital knitting machine

Hi everyone! I’m a student who loves knitting, and I’ve often wondered why there isn’t an easy-to-use machine for making custom knitwear at home from digital designs.
That question led me to start an independent school research project exploring what a truly useful at-home digital knitting machine might look like.
I’d love to hear from machine knitters, hand knitters, and anyone interested in making knitwear. You don’t need any experience with knitting machines to take part.
This is early-stage personal research for a school project.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I’d really appreciate any feedback! 🧶

Help remembering pattern

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am new to knitting and I started this blanket about 6 months ago. I'm picking it back up and I cannot figure out my pattern.

I know I was alternating a k,k,p,k,k,k,p,k,k,k,p but I can't for the life of me remember if I repeated that pattern (off set) every row or if I put a straight knit or purl row between the alternated rows.

Is anyone able to look at this image and tell me what they think I was doing?

Finding patterns

I tend to buy wool as I see it and if it catches my eye - but without a pattern in mind.

If you are the same as me, how do you go about looking for patterns to work with?

Help me find this yarn…

…If can be found. I have reversed image searched several times with no luck. I only knit dishcloths, and have just this one that was given to my mom. It’s 100% cotton. It is such a vibrant color and would love to find this or even other ombré colors by the maker.

Follow-up: knitting research results!

Hi everyone! A few weeks ago, some of you very kindly helped me with some knitting-related research for my UX Design class. There was interest in seeing the results, so I wanted to share the analysis here. Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to help me out!

The highlights

  • Most stashes live in our heads. Only 1 in 4 of us knows exactly what is in our stash, and nearly two thirds use no tool to track it.
  • We plan, but we also love yarn for its own sake. More than half buy both for specific projects and just because. Only 4% never have a project in mind.
  • The headache is matching, not finding. The biggest struggles are buying more to match what we own, working out whether we have enough, and judging whether a yarn suits a pattern.
  • Paper is far from dead. Pen and paper is the most common way to track rows, and 6 in 10 of us read patterns on both paper and screens.
  • We are juggling. Almost half have 3 or more projects on the go, and 1 in 4 have 5 or more.

Who took part

More than two thirds of respondents have been knitting or crocheting for over a decade, and 96% call themselves intermediate or advanced. Most are in their mid-30s to mid-50s. Nearly everyone (92%) uses Ravelry, and 90% use it to search for patterns.

Everyone follows patterns at least some of the time: 76% always do, and the other 24% sometimes do. More than half (56%) say they are inspired by a mix of a pattern they want to make and yarn they want to use.

Our stashes are known, but not recorded

Two thirds of us know what is in our stash “more or less,” and only a quarter know exactly. Most of us don’t keep a list at all. Instead, we rely on memory, bins and labels: 70% keep almost all of our yarn labels. Only 30% use Ravelry’s stash feature, even though 92% use Ravelry itself.

Buying with a plan (mostly)

More than half of us buy a mix of yarn for specific projects and yarn “just because.” Another 30% buy only for a project, and just 4% buy with no project in mind. And we like to have lots on the go: 46% have 3 or more projects at a time.

The headache is matching, not finding

The most common workflow struggles are about decisions: buying more to match what we already own (38%), working out whether we have enough for a project (34%), and judging whether a yarn suits a pattern (34%). Leftovers are a challenge too: 62% say they have at least some trouble using them up.

Paper and screens, side by side

Pen and paper (64%) and stitch markers (60%) are still the most popular ways to keep track of rows, with physical counters (36%) and craft apps like KnitCompanion and My Row Counter (34%) close behind. Phones and paper are nearly tied for reading patterns, and 62% of us use both. More than 4 in 5 mark up their patterns at least sometimes.

(The survey is a snapshot of 50 people. Percentages are rounded, and questions where you could pick several answers add up to more than 100%.)

Jacket commission for my daughter

Location : Greer, SC, United States

Hi, I’d like to commission a red knitted jacket for my 14 year old daughter. She had this coat when she was a kid and loved, wore it everywhere, rain, shine, hot, cold, she didn’t care. she outgrew it, (and it kind of fell apart, lol), still talks about it wistfully. I would really like to recreate this for her.

Couple things to note- I’m flying blind here…quite a few different things I don’t know stacking up in this prject, so bear with me. I joined Reddit to post this, so I haven’t posted before. My apologies if I break etiquette somehow, will do my best. I have a 40 second video of her as a kid in the jacket, able to see front and back of the jacket in the video, although the jacket is getting frayed in spots in the video. Would posting that as a way to see what I’m hoping for be acceptable in this forum?

Also, I have no idea what material was in the jacket, beyond it being soft and red, with a greyish lining. Also not sure what size would be best. She is pretty athletic, about 5’7”, maybe 140 lbs. I’d like her to be able to wear this for a long time, maybe woman’s medium?

Lastly, I don’t know how to knit or sew, so I’m not sure what’s reasonable in terms of cost. Is $400-500 doable? I’m not in a huge hurry, although it would be cool if she could wear it during the upcoming cold months.

ISO Rowan #12

Hello knitters,

My son has fallen in love with Kaffe Fasset's sweater #22 Planets. It's in an out of print issue of Rowan Magazine: number 12, published in August of 1992. I would LOVE to get my hands on either the magazine or just a copy of that pattern. Can anyone help?
