For a whole month or two I was going lazy on drinking water and I found out. First pain episode in my right kidney was almost one year ago, it was so painful and intense that I was on the ground lying down screaming, sweating and throwing up. This lasted for an hour and I remember me sleeping on the bathroom floor after that. I Woke up later with no pain just some weird itchy feeling on my penis tip for no long time. I did not go to the doctor and I just bought an ibuprofen pack just in case that deadly pain comes back. That pain I had was like someone is squeezing my guts very hard, pain was in my lower right abdomen. as my brother told me it’s just an IBS attack which is he used to get. I just increased my fluid intake just in case it’s a stone.

I had no symptoms at all for almost one year, until 2 months ago, august heat in my country is no joke. I got sweaty in a busy work day and bam! Similar pain again but this time in waves and not as bad as the first time but it was persistent for three days and peeing amount was low. I gave up and went to the doctor this time, done an ultrasound and the report said mild dilated right renal sinus and proximal part of right ureter.
Stone was not found so doctor suggested a CT scan which I couldn’t afford.

After 3 days the pain was gone on its own and I could pee normally, I knew the obstruction was relieved but this kept recurring every now and then for 2 months. In last stages the pain was relived when i believe the stone reached my bladder then for a couple of days felt pain when it was in my urethra each time I peed i felt pain in my penis tip in the last drops of my pee. Pee was Intermittent in that stage.

Today I peed normally and on the last drops i noticed the pee line twitched a little bit and if i did not look at the toilet I wouldn’t know that I did pass it.

I might measure the it later and update this. I hope you never experience the pain and keep drinking water guys!

Stents Wow y you weren’t kidding about the stents

Had my ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy a couple hours ago.

Feel like I got roto-rootered with a drain snake, but the worst part by far is the stent. It hurts as much as the stones did!

At least I only have to keep it in for 5 days :-/

😡 Rant! 😡 Nightmare situation

Just as it’s titled, my situation has been a nightmare.

I self referred to a urologist in May of this year for what I thought was recurrent UTIs. He scheduled me for an ultrasound and a cystoscopy (in office) for July, “Just in case there’s something pathological” since the testing showed that I wasn’t having a UTI. Fast forward to the first of July and the ultrasound showed bilateral Hydronephrosis and the cystoscopy showed a normal bladder, but he could tell that something was outside the bladder putting pressure on it. Then scheduled for a CT scan on July 30th. That scan revealed a 2cm and 1cm kidney stone at the upj of my left kidney. The doctor scheduled me for an emergent cysto, with laser lithotripsy and bilateral stent placement the next morning (was Sat August 1st). The stents were where the nightmare truly began! Follow up appointment were delayed and I didn’t see the doctor for two weeks. At this appointment I was informed that he didn’t think my left kidney was functioning and I might need a nephrectomy (WHAT? Immediate shock!) and he removed the stent from the left ureter. Ordered a Mag3 scan to check bilateral function of the kidneys. The scan showed that I had only 30% function on the left (right was 70%). Then follow up for the scan (I’m freaking miserable with the stent still on the right!) and he removes the right stent, and wants another Mag3 scan to see how both sides do without stents. Sweet relief, and it was the first week of September. Next scan was done three weeks later and left function decreased to 20%. Soooo, he scheduled a stent to be placed in the left kidney to try to preserve the function of that kidney, for now. That was done on October 9th.

The stent he placed can remain for up to a year. The next intervention will have to be reconstructive surgery on my ureters (the whole problem to begin with, apparently). BUT, I’m hoping the stent from the devil buys me some time because in August my husband was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and began chemo for that. I will try to persevere to get him through his 18 weeks of treatments that I pray lead to a cure.

One other thing to add to the mix: we are at about the halfway point of building a house, which has been a good distraction, in a way.

I just felt the need to rant for a minute and I feel better for it already. But yes, the stent is evil!!

I saw this procedure called CVAC and a dr close to me does it. Ive had laser lithotripsy 4 times. I currently have multiple stones in my kidney up to 8mm. Has anyone had this procedure done and how was your experience with it? Also how is the recovery compared to laser lithotripsy?

Question/ Request for advice 4mm Kidney Stone

I went to get a cat scan with contrast for my gallbladder. They found a 4mm Kidney Stone. The doctor did not prescribe me anything and I didn't think much of it. Today I finally realized that this stone is bigger than the one that landed me at the hospital a few years back.

Has anyone with a 4mm experience no pain? Is there a way to avoid getting sharp pain?

I just don't want to be at work, sitting at my cubical over 20 floors up, and then need an ambulance for the pain (before we thought my appendix burst, but it was a 3.5 mm kidney stone). Luckily my prior stone happened during the pandemic. I am currently hybrid and I am freaking out of it passing while I am at the office.

My other concern is that it is a holiday month where I usually go out to pumpkin patches, bar crawls etc. I don't want to halt my life, but I am genuinely concerned of severe screaming pain as before, but this time in a public setting.

The 4mm stone is currently sitting in my kidney. These things can start moving at any time, so I am desperate for any advise

Question/ Request for advice Advice Needed On Incidental Stone Finding

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello! Long time lurker on reddit here, my apologies if this post is off topic or not allowed. I'm 18 and roughly three years ago I received an abdominal xray for symptoms unrelated to my kidneys that I was told was unremarkable, however I was going through my old test results the other night and it was noted that I had kidney stones. I have a number of other chronic conditions, and as a child has pretty severe issues with my kidneys. However, the tech did not note which kidney they were in, what size they were, or if there was more than one. I have not had any new symptoms since the xray, so I am wondering if the lack of symptoms and vague report could mean there is a possibility that my imaging was misread. I have asked my PCP to schedule for a renal ultrasound, but figured it wouldnt hurt to ask for advice here as well. I've attached my xrays if that helps anyone! Thanks in advance!!

Question/ Request for advice Scared and anxious 3 stones in left kidney (6.2mm, 5.2mm, 3.8mm). Doc says no surgery, but I don't know what to do next.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just got my imaging results back and found out I have three stones all in my left kidney: 6.2mm, 5.2mm, and 3.8mm.

I’m pretty freaked out. My doctor told me I don’t need surgery, which I guess is good, but I’m super anxious and feeling kind of lost about what to do now or what to expect.

Has anyone here passed stones around 5mm–6mm on their own? Did your doc put you on Flomax or anything to help push them along?

Any advice, tips, or just reassurance would mean a lot right now.

P.S- I recently passed a 5.2mm stone.

Question/ Request for advice Pain AFTER passing stone???

I passed my stone on Sunday and have had lingering flank pain since. Pretty much all my lab work has returned back to normal (WBC, creatinine, eGFR, etc.) the pain is NOTHING like before. It hurts worse when I stand. No other symptoms. Is it just my kidney and ureter pissed off or should I be concerned?

Stents Stent pain :(

does the stent usually get worse before it gets better? I had a stone removed yesterday through uretoscopy and a stent placed. I feel AWFUL. They offered me oxycodone but narcotics make me feel sick so I declined.

Tylenol, ibuprofen and toradol aren’t helping. I’m in constant pain. My abdomen is very swollen and painful and my legs feel swollen. Is this supposed to happen? I don’t have a fever but I’m feeling worse, not better. Still blood In urine intermittently and I’m drinking as much as I can stomach, I’m feeling nauseous most of the time.

Question/ Request for advice Kidney Stone

Since August 16, I have had a kidney stone. I went to the ER and was told a 7mm kidney stone would be easy to pass. Haven’t passed it and went to another hospital. No help there either. Went to a third hospital and finally got to get in with a urologist the week after. Also found out that not only do I have the obstructing 7mm kidney stone, but also a 1mm one right behind it. Was basically fighting to get in with one. Every time I called one of the urologists, either the appointments were way out or I had to wait at least 6 weeks for the referral to go through. I get to have the procedure done on October 28. It will be a ureteroscopy along with laser lithography and a stent being put in. What was it like for you? I never had a procedure like this done and would love some tips and hear about your experience with it.

Pain Management How do I deal with the pain

I’ve become increasingly suicidal as the days pass because my life has just been taken over by this unbearable pain. I woke up every 10-15 minutes last night crying and dry heaving because the pain was so bad. I don’t know how much longer I can do this for.

Stents Stent pull advice

Hi guys, just had a question. From the posts I’ve been seeing it seems like the mental build up to removing a stent with a string is the true battle. I’m going to do it tomorrow, according to my urologist instructions. Any tips? I’m going to do it in the shower. My mom’s like “just go for it”! I’m like ok that’s easy for you to say lmao.

Question/ Request for advice 5mm stone. Too scared

Hey guys, I have passed few stones but last one was maybe 6-7 years back.

so i got ultrasound done a month back. I wasn't having any symptom but I went for a random check. Told its a 5mm stone in right kidney

Now i started jogging since a week - i normally just walk. Since yesterday i feel a sensation for a few seconds , near kidney area ,ppl who have had a stone pain know it. I am wishing its something else but very scared for the kind of pain that comes.

Could jogging cause stone to move?

Previous episodes I always felt the long car drive on bad country roads maybe causing stone to move as well. Anyone relates to it?

How do you manage anxiety of pain?

I got these meds by my bed side

  1. Diclofenac

  2. Drotavarine

  3. Tramadol

Which of these you take and do they really help?

I have come to believe ER is the only solution.

Question/ Request for advice 4mm non-obstructing stone determined not the cause of blood in my urine?

I posted a few weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/KidneyStones/s/YKGUKYjzB1

My CT Urogram came back and they found a 4mm stone in my left kidney, but radiologist and urologist said that specific stone isn’t the likely cause of my gross hematuria.

My last gross hematuria episode was 8/31, but “relapsed” and had blood again this morning. Sent to urologist via portal.

I do have cystoscopy scheduled for November to scope my bladder.

On top of all this, they did find Retroperitoneal/periportal adenopathy and I have to go get testicular ultrasound to rule out malignancy of my testicles.

So, I have 2 different unknown things going on:

  1. Why is there blood in my urine if uro & radiologist said the stone they see is unlikely to cause the bleeding?

  2. Why are my abdominal lymph nodes swollen?

I imagine the cystoscopy will hopefully rule out any bladder malignancies but I’m getting worried.

Has anyone else dealt with incidental findings on their CT Urogram like this?

Question/ Request for advice Autistic Teen with Cystinuria

TLDR: My autistic nephew has been diagnosed with cystinuria and looking for snack and meal suggestions, and general advice.

My nephew is 14yo and non-verbal autistic. He has recently been diagnosed with cystinuria after many kidney stones. Trying to alter his diet is going to be a huge undertaking and I am trying to help my SIL and MIL. My SIL is a single mom working full time and needs a lot of support. Unfortunately my nephew is very particular about food, and currently all of his favorites are on the no-go list. Any prepackaged snacks or meals would be greatly appreciated, but open to recipes that I could meal prep and freeze as well.

Also just any general advice is welcome as I try to help them navigate this. As you can imagine they have their hands full already and asked if I could do some research, and reddit was so helpful when I was diagnosed with IC.
