GENERAL Agnu and beep

• Upvotes

Not sure if anyone else has brought this up but the dynamic between and agnu and beep is really neat agnu a old police officer in the second empire hes broken old tattered and beep is a member the newest race and completely new looking forward to the future and instead depressed and unsure like the other hive exhiles hes a happy childish being makes sense they are the main characters in my eyes

GENERAL I know you'll hate me for this, but I tried reverse-engineering Kenshi with AI.

Kenshi is the only game I've played since 2018. It's been a big inspiration to me, and I've always wondered how its world and systems fit together. The factions, the ruins, the things nobody explains to you, and the stories that come out of simply trying to survive there.

Recently, I saw those clips mixing different games together: Mario Kart in Call of Duty, Minecraft with Elden Ring. I came across the REA repo and wanted to see whether it could work with Kenshi too.

After 16 hours with an AI and the REA repo, here's what these tools can already help us do: understand how parts of Kenshi work and start reproducing some of those systems.

That's the possibility I wanted to bring to the community's attention. More fans will be able to investigate the game, experiment with its mechanics and try ideas they've had for years. Improving performance, trying a different perspective, or changing how a particular mechanic works. Parts of what makes Kenshi so clever are becoming possible to study and recreate.

Kenshi's systems are complex, and the way they interact is a big part of what makes the game interesting.

That's what I wanted to share here. These tools exist now, and I wanted to try them with Kenshi and show what came out of it.

I imagine Chris and the Lo-Fi team have considered that someone would eventually try this. With these tools becoming available, it seemed inevitable. I tested it, and these are the results of that experiment.

I'm still looking forward to Kenshi 2, and I'd love to hear more about where it's heading.

GENERAL Advice on total overhauls!

• Upvotes

So I’ve been playing through genesis right now and I’ve been loving all the new additions to the game however it’s started to wear me out a bit with some of it. I just lost my elder bone dog to a one shot from an adult beak thing even with a toughness of 70!!! Now I don’t know if this was the mod or what but I’ve not had that happen before, practically killed the run right there due to an unhealthy attachment to the poor thing.

Has anyone got some recommendations for a total overhaul for my next play through? I’ve seen people with awesome looking graphics and I’d love to find out how you guys are doing this. I’m open to any suggestions of what you guys felt worked best for you, personally I love the massive amount of content genesis added so ideally something similarish to that would be great!

Hope you guys are havin a great day in your own little worlds!

HUMOUR First time playing and you sit in the bar at Hub

But then you look outside.

"Man, you gotta try this, just try Kenshi, bro trust me," says my friend. Then he just sits there and laughs like how is this fun for him? I feel like a hamster in a social experiment.

I read the tutorial, learned basically nothing. Spawn as a human male, check my stats 1 in everything. Great. Went outside and died to some random mob. Respawned, explored the town can’t buy or do anything, everything costs money. I want to buy some ruined house but need money. Went outside, got ambushed by like 20 guys. Like what the fuck?

Meanwhile he’s just laughing the whole time.

Respawn again, check the town again, maybe I missed something. Picked up empty bottles and bowls and whatever, sold it, got nothing. Went outside again, some group of 10 men attacked me no idea why. Ran up north to some bar, some dudes helped me out by clearing them in 2 hits. Went outside, got a sword and helmet from some dead body. Some guy woke up I thought great, he’s weak, I’ll attack him. I couldn’t land a single hit. He knocks me out, I get a “dying” status, and I die.

DISCUSSION Did I miss any must have/QoL/lore-friendly mods?

Post image

This is my mod list after 1,250 hours of gameplay. There are no new races, tons of unbalanced armor, or unlore weapons. I’ve simply polished and enhanced the vanilla experience.

I’d like to know if I’ve missed anything that you think would fit well with this list? This question is primarily for those who prefer a similar style of modlist.

GENERAL I own an Eagles Cross for home defense

I own an Eagles Cross for home defense, since that's what the founding Phoenixs intended.

Four darkened ones break into my house. I shouted, "What the Narko?"

I grab my Bucket Zukin and Holy crossbow, and blow a chalice sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my toothpick on the second man, miss him entirely because it's shoddy and nails the neighbors bonedog.

I have to resort to the turret mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with dual harpoons, "Divine blessings lads!" The harpoons shred two shek in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel raise alarms.

Fix ninja blade and charge the last terrified beast. He bleeds out waiting on the sentinals to arrive since triangular ninja blade wounds are impossible to stitch up.

Ah yes,

Just as the founding Phoenixs intended.

GENERAL Kenshi Genesis

So I tried Kenshi Genesis alongside Re_Kenshi and I have mixed feelings. I've recognized some mods in the pack and some I saw for the first time. I gotta say it ran swiggity smoothly on my laptop which is not exactly a high end computer and I didn't experience infinite load times and constant crashes which I had been concerned about.

I gotta say the Border Zone looked amazing and lively. I liked the new characters and gear even though I'm not big on armor/faction mods. It was really refreshing how I could go exactly to the same copper node outside The Hub for an early cash boost. To my surprise(I'm a true-blue mining maniac in Kenshi) I also found copper's price reduction quite refreshing. Now I mined iron as it wasn't much cheaper and my starting character needed to train strength as my good friend Blitz the southern hiver spawned with -9 strength, but it stopped being an issue once I spotted some scavengers(belonging to a new faction 'Scavengers') attacking a merchant that had a heavy ass wooden backpack full of robotics and medical supplies. Needless to say strength training and money was no longer a problem. I quickly went on to research a crossbow locker(to remove the stolen tag from items I appropriated) and hired some new and frankly quite interesting albeit a little corny new recruits(20500C in total and I was still loaded). Overall an interesting experience and I'm sure there is endless new content to explore.

I did find many things annoying though. Tech level 1 research was already a clusterfuck due to the countless mods that are included. I also found the plethora of new food items pointless and even frustrating when I found out most, if not all of the new foods cannot be contained in a Food Barrel(a new food container). There might be a solution for this later on the tech tree somewhere down the line or a patch mod that fixes this. I also saw a drink storage as well as shelves(researchable or otherwise, I dunno) which exclusively hold either food or drinks which might be a solution for my problem, but it was just a big ass red flag for me. To quote my gal Ruka: "I don't care for it." I don't need salted and plain variations of the same 15-20 nutrient value food/drink items and I suspect that there will be plenty of 'filler' content should I keep on using Genesis.

All in all I was smiling and laughing a lot while exploring the beginner aeria and the map did look astoundingly beautiful and detailed. I recommend trying out Genesis for new and veteran players alike. I, however, will leave it for now and assemble my own mod pack.

DISCUSSION How hard do you guys go with “sandbox story building”

So my Kenshi playthrough has gotten so intense I’m starting to have actual anxiety and starting to cry actual tears for these little idiot virtual people. I’ve been very slowly developing a narrative, characters, philosophical narrative on freedom what it means etc based on this playthrough.
And I mean REALLY developing it. At this point it’s basically a sprawling multi-generational political tragedy with distinct narrative arcs, character development, ideological contradictions, recurring motifs, and an increasingly elaborate cast of characters who have developed actual relationships with one another.
The main character is an escaped slave whose wife was murdered by a theocratic empire. He begins the story consumed by revenge, gradually builds a found family, essentially adopts a young girl, and eventually becomes so horrified by the violence he’s committed in the name of liberation that he abandons his revolutionary ambitions to establish a peaceful farming settlement.
Except the world won’t let him have that either, and now he’s preparing to wage a revolutionary war against the United Cities.
Meanwhile his adopted daughter, who began the story as a bright-eyed innocent kid, has progressively internalized the idea that freedom can only be achieved through strength and that strength means being willing to do absolutely whatever is necessary, inspired by another character who committed war atrocities. Their relationship is beginning to fracture because she’s becoming the very sort of person her father is increasingly horrified by.
And NONE OF THIS WAS PLANNED. Almost all of it has emerged organically from shit that actually happened in-game, which I then interpret and incorporate into the ongoing narrative.
I have characters whose deaths genuinely devastated me. I have characters whose relationships have developed over dozens of hours. I have an entire chronology of events and I’m genuinely considering turning the whole thing into an original novel series because the story has gotten so fucking enormous.
I feel like I’m losing my fucking mind. I’m not even really playing Kenshi anymore. I’m watching an entire fictional history unfold and getting emotionally destroyed by it.
Does anyone else go this insanely hard with emergent storytelling in sandbox games? Like, do you actually construct coherent long-form narratives around your playthroughs, or have I gone insane

I haven't checked all of them but i don't recall tech hunters ever allied to the holy nation, maybe it's not tied to relations but the AI or such?

DISCUSSION Third person/splicing

I'm not a fan of ai but saw the melty software and how it would work with Kenshi, do you think it would have the same feel if you say spliced it with fall out or simply flipped the perspective and control with another title?

Kenshi is such a unique game, I wouldn't change a thing but I know some people did want that shift. Wondering how people who are real deal fans feel.
