I’m sure most of us know about the famous video. Figured it could be good for a laugh to try it myself

Hay guys, I remember playing Just Cause 1 when it first released and hating it (I'm not sure how much I played). I later played the demo for Just Cause 2 and fell in love with the series (2 & 3 are my favourite).

I've now played all of them from 2 onwards, and wanted to go back to the OG to see if I could play it now. I bought it for 360 (to go into Xbox One).

Is there anything you recommend before jumping in?

Just a quick update

I've spent the last week working on a completely new stereo rendering system, moving away from the old alternate frame rendering (AFR) approach.

Ideally, you guys shouldn't notice much difference visually, but it's a pretty big change behind the scenes. The new system renders both eyes separately within the same simulation frame, and I've finally got it working in the headset!

There's still plenty of optimisation to do. Performance is a bit choppy at the moment, and the resolution is lower than I'd like, but it's playable and I'm happy with the progress so far.

One last thing: I'm a full-time student, and school's started again, so updates might take a little longer. I'll still be working on the mod whenever I can!

every single time i load up my latest safe i spawn in this era. but i still keep my progress. why am i not spawning in the latest era?

so my little brother has had the #1 in our area (idk how its ranked but it has shown him as #1) and he logged on today to see that someone had beaten him by an ABSURD amount. im hoping someone can help me find out what happened? (my brother is ranked #2 now and I blurred everyone except #1)

I picked up this again after playing the 4th edition for a bit. JC4 has a bigger map, more structured gameplay and physics mechanics. It's not a stunt simulator and that's ok, it's a different style of game. However; for all of that, the map still felt empty. There is actually nothing to explore or do between the major objectives. You have various challenges to upgrade the grapple, and that's it.

The core mechanic of 'blowing up stuff in fun ways' is lost. All the destructible things are centered around quest areas. You clear the objective, then destroy the same 3 or 4 types of structures with zero finesse or variation. In JC2, blowing up stuff in fun ways occurs naturally as a result of just playing, and happens everywhere in the map, not just the quest areas. (Also I never got into the JC2 multiplayer mod, hoping that's still active)

If we ever get a 5th installment, my hope is combining the best of both titles: stunt simulator and high density of stuff with modern gameplay mechanics like advanced upgrades and large-scale NPC faction fighting each other.

having spent hundreds and hundreds of hours playing JC2 originally on ps3 as a kid, I thought I knew everything about the game. Recently I decided to revisit it on PC and play on hardcore, just cause.

welp, 10 hours in and I kinda regret it. It's not quite fun, it feels like you spend more time focusing on mashing the grapple than actually fighting, because your health will get nuked in two seconds. Like, some examples;

• Elite enemies will spawn behind your back and instantly zap your HP.
• The constant WE NEED AIR SUPPORT followed by the stream of bullet hell from miniguns that sound worse than mosquitos, is super frustrating, because that also will immediately kill you
• The increase in enemy spawns obviously means they do more damage, generally, to vehicles. Helicopters are useless after 20 seconds, tanks will chug smoke on the way to the next base, depending.
• The increase in enemies leaves you without enough ammo to deal with the constant onslaught of ground soldiers and helicopters. By the time you end up leveling everything to 5-6 stars, so you can just swap and not have to shoot an elite 7 times with the sawed off shotgun, the game is over because you've done everything.

Now, it's made a little more frustrating as I'm playing KBM for a change. Shooting and ground combat is fine, driving is alright, but the skydiving, helicopter, and plane controls are straight dogshit.

• Skydiving with a controller allowed you to remain neutral, or dive forwards/down no problem with the joystick, but with a mouse, there is no neutral reset, so you're constantly spinning out of control
• Helicopters are forced to use the mouse for turning, which normally would be fine, but the helicopters in this game are notoriously sluggish... so you have to drag your arm across your entire desk just to turn around smoothly, which is not okay, because of the constant onslaught of enemy choppers.
• Planes don't have fin controls in this game, which is fine on a joystick, but my god it's frustrating with WASD. Luckily there's not much you need to do with the planes, but it still doesn't feel fun

but yeah. I'm still having a good time seeing all the locations and funny dialogues again, but I am wishing I selected hard or even normal. Hardcore is definitely taking away from the sandbox experience as I'm forced to spam and rely on using annoying strategies.

edit: oh, yeah, one more thing. you can't change your difficulty setting after selecting it. so 12 hours in with a lot of completion, I can't tone it down so I can relax
