Love the name James, but worried about the nickname Jamie with our surname

We're deciding on a name for our newborn son. I love the name James. I've honestly never met a James who wasn't a solid, stand-up guy.

My only concern is that my wife and his two older sisters want to call him Jamie as a nickname.

I don't think that's a problem in itself, but our surname sounds quite feminine, and I actually got teased about it growing up, so I'm probably more conscious of this than most.

I worry that combining a unisex nickname with a feminine-sounding surname could make him a target for bullying, especially if his older sisters take the nn "Jamie" to school and influence younger kids. Then that nickname could end up sticking throughout his school years.

Would love to hear from guys named James, especially if your older sibling/siblings calls you Jamie. Did it ever bother you growing up or were you totally fine with it? How would you feel if you had a feminine surname and were getting called Jamie?

James is up there as my first name choice, but would you still go with James in our situation? Let me know if I'm overthinking it.

When does James become Jim

I’m a James, my wife has just asked me when do Jameses decide to be called Jim? Is there t an age related thing or what. I honestly can’t answer, as I’ve never gone by Jim. Always James, though with a Jamie or Jimbo by immediately family.
Thoughts?

US Presidents

Fun fact: there have been more US Presidents called James than with any other first name.

James Madison (4th), James Monroe (5th), James Polk (11th), James Buchanan (15th) and James Garfield (20th). There was also Jimmy Carter (39th) who I think we can count in the interests of being inclusive. That's six in all.

Going by Jamie professionally?

How do you all feel about men in positions of authority who choose to go by Jamie professionally rather than James?

I had a boss called Jamie once. As I'd always thought of it as a cutesy baby name that I'd outgrown as a child, I found that gave me a wee bit of cognitive dissonance.

I can understand it for celebrities, or footballers, or social media professionals, or people who want to build up a popular public persona, but I'm not sure I get it for managers, businessmen or academics.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879). He was well known for his theory of electromagnetism, without which we wouldn't have modern technology.

He was a great guy. He was a Scotsman. And he was a James.

What do you think of being called Jamie and why?

It seems that some Jameses love it and other Jameses hate it.

When I was a child growing up in England I thought it was a cutesy "baby name" that I needed to grow out of sooner rather than later. My relatives up in Scotland had other ideas. They saw it as a fine Scottish boys' name and seemed to think that I was being too "Sassenach" (English) by insisting on my birth certificate name of James. The discussions we had around it were rather ... interesting.

As an adult (still in England) I've been well and truly James, but I've met my fair share of Jamies in the workplace. At one point, one of them was my boss. Let's just say that challenged my perception a bit.

why is it that i cannot find a singular jame?

hello,

i am simply here to ask one thing:
why can i not seem to find a sole jame? james always tend to come in packs of two or more, which really grinds my gears, as i cannot afford to have more than one jame at the moment, and would honestly be a lot happier with just one jame, opposed to multiple james. please do let me know, thanks.

Movie: Infinity Pool

Just watched Infinity Pool and it absolutely wrecked me. Alexander Skarsgård plays a writer named James who gets stripped bare (literally and existentially) in the most humiliating, soul crushing way. it’s body horror that turns into soul horror. If you want something disturbing, provocative, and impossible to shake, this is it. Heads up: very graphic, very bleak. But damn, it lingers. Another James needs to see this. You’ll feel seen… in the worst way. 😵‍💫

4.5/5 still recovering
