ACADEMICS 🎓 Is Health Information Management (HIM) a good major?

• Upvotes

Hello, I’m currently an exploratory major and considering pursuing in HIM. I’m planning to take an 8-week online HIM course to see if it’s a good fit for me. I originally considered a different major, but it was more science-heavy than I wanted. I still want a career in healthcare, so my academic advisor recommended HIM and Health Sciences. I’m especially interested in HIM, but I’d love some honest advice before deciding. How difficult is the major? How many years does it take to graduate? Is it hard to find a job after graduation, and what is the starting salary like? Are remote jobs common? Also, is the work relatively independent, suitable for introverts, and manageable in terms of stress? I’m hoping to find a career that takes around 3–4 years of college, offers good job opportunities and pay, and has a reasonable work-life balance. For current students and graduates, would you recommend HIM? Would you choose it again? I’d really appreciate any honest advice. Thank you.

Universities Recognize Greek Life—But Won't Oversee It. That Has to Change.

Recent incidents at Cornell and beyond have exposed a troubling gap: universities formally recognize fraternities and sororities, regulate them, promote them, and benefit from them. But when serious harm happens—sexual assault, hazing, deaths—suddenly these same organizations become "private" and "beyond oversight."

That disconnect isn't acceptable.

I started a petition calling on colleges nationwide to establish real accountability: independent investigations into serious misconduct, transparent reporting, clear escalation procedures, and meaningful interim safety measures. The goal isn't to eliminate Greek life. It's to require universities to actually back up their recognition with responsibility.

Five concrete reforms. Real oversight. Student safety that doesn't depend on hoping nothing goes wrong.

Has anyone here experienced this firsthand? Either seen how these gaps play out on your campus, or felt like serious issues got swept aside because of who was involved? What would you want an institution to do if this was your community?

Iusb investigation

Hello!

I have received correspondence from the doj that iusb is currently pending investigations regarding ADA concerns. I know that this has been an issue that has been brought up in the past with various campuses, but I do feel it may be an appropriate time for students with concerns either past or present to make those concerns known. This is a real chance at improvement for the University, and I encourage others to redress any concerns that they may have had or currently have.

Bedloft Issues

Has anyone else had issues with this company? I returned my fridge/microwave at the end the 24/25 school year in great shape. The company rep said it looked good and I thought that was the end of it. I recently received a collection notice from a debt collection company that I owed almost 70 bucks for a cleaning fee. I disputed the charge, but the agency said they contacted the company and said the debt was legit. Bedloft will not respond to me. Between the fees and rental, it would have been cheaper to just buy one.

QUESTION❓ Hudson and Holland Director’s Meetings (Absence)

I’m making this post to try to get some help regarding the Hudson and Holland scholarship program on the Bloomington campus.

So I missed the directors meetings for the fall semester and I don’t have a credible excuse. I was just a complete idiot and spaced on the day of, even for the make up meeting for people who couldn’t make the original ones. And now, I’m freaking out and wondering how to keep my scholarship.

I was hoping that anyone could help me figure how to keep the scholarship or just literally anything would help. Like I need the scholarship and I’m having a meltdown rn.

Where to stay near stadium for osu

Hi!

I’m looking for a place to stay that’s close to the stadium. I’m visiting Bloomington from Friday to Sunday. Please share anything that might be a good option!

I’m struggling to find a good option on Airbnb since it doesn’t let me narrow it down much further.

Thanks!

QUESTION❓ How hard is getting into IU?

How hard is it to get into IU for general admission?
I know certain schools like kelley and jsom are really tough but the IU acceptance rate is 75%+ and they report the average gpa as 3.77/4.00. However I feel like the majority of people that get in have a much lower gpa, like 3.0 uw to 3.4 uw gpa (im not sure if IUs report is weighted or not). So like what is an actually decent GPA (unweighted) and SAT to get in?

QUESTION❓ Does anyone know if the Woodburn House has IU disabled parking?

Super random question, but I have a IU disabled parking pass and can only park in disabled spots on campus/campus buildings. I was wondering if I would be able to use this pass to park at the Woodburn House downtown (not Woodburn hall). Tried looking on their street view but couldn’t really see, and also can’t look for myself as I am out of town right now. Thanks
