General Discussion We updated the r/IndiaTech sub’s icon. Here’s why

The brutal crackdown on students, protesters, and journalists in Delhi, along with reports of illegal detention and house arrest, raises serious concerns about Democracy in India.

Our Constitution gives us the right to Freedom of speech and peaceful protest under Article 19. Questioning those in power is not anti-national; standing up for our rights is patriotism.

Changing our subreddit’s icon is a small gesture of solidarity, as fellow Indians. We cannot remain silent when our democratic rights are in danger.

Dissent is a right. Protest is a voice. Standing up for India is patriotism. 🇮🇳✊🏻

And Democracy is everyone’s concern. We’ve always tried to keep rIndiaTech free from politics and controversial issues and that remains our stance. But being apolitical as a community doesn’t mean being indifferent as citizens. When democracy and fundamental rights are at stake, silence isn’t neutrality. We stay out of party politics, not matters of conscience. Jai Hind

General Discussion Jio Google AI Pro vs Paid Pro: why are model entitlements different?

I’m trying to understand the recent changes to Google AI Pro and Antigravity, particularly for people who activated the 18-month Google AI Pro offer through Jio.

A bit of context:

Jio and Google advertised the offer as access to the Google AI Pro plan for 18 months, with a stated value of approximately ₹35,100. After activation, the subscription appears as Google AI Pro on the Google account, with the subscription provided through Jio.

However, there now seem to be differences in what directly paid and Jio-provided Pro subscribers can access in Google Antigravity.

  • Google's Antigravity team has clarified that partner-bundled plans, including Jio, are classified as promotional entitlements for certain model-access purposes.
  • Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 are restricted to directly billed, non-promotional Pro or Ultra subscriptions. Existing third-party model access on promotional plans is scheduled to end on November 2, 2026.
  • Gemini 3.1 Pro was removed from Antigravity on October 12. Google's team says this was a model-lineup change affecting subscription tiers generally, so I'm not counting that removal itself as evidence of Jio-specific treatment.
  • On October 15, the Antigravity account announced that Gemini 4 Argon was rolling out to paid Google AI Pro subscribers. That raises another question about whether Jio-provided Pro subscribers qualify under the same eligibility rules.

Sources:

I understand that Google can change its model lineup, introduce new models, retire old ones and set usage limits. I'm not arguing that any particular model must remain available forever.

My question is about the subscription itself.

If someone gets Google AI Pro through Jio and someone else subscribes directly to Google AI Pro, both have the same plan name on their Google accounts. Shouldn't they have the same eligibility rules for features that Google makes available to AI Pro subscribers?

I'm not saying every model has to be included in every plan. I'm asking whether, once a feature is included for Pro subscribers, it is reasonable to distinguish between direct-paid Pro and Jio-provided Pro when the offer was advertised as Google AI Pro.

If partner plans are intended to have different entitlements, shouldn't that distinction be clearly explained when the offer is advertised and activated?

Would like to hear your thoughts.

General Discussion India can never have world level Social Media, because of too much power the govt. and goons in India.

I am sharing my opinion to look for other's opinions.

The title is the gist, I will explain a bit:

Like in USA and Europe they largely work on laws, follow constitution. Politicians in the govt. can't stop them just by their words, they have to fight with right reasons in court.

That's why everyone there can mock, swear at Presidents/PMs, with minimal repercussions.

If public tries to force, govt protects the company.

While if an Indian even opens Social Media, it will be restricted by both the govt and our stoopid people. Govt. has already brought laws to control the social media but they can only do that in India, if it was Indian, they would try to decide what the world sees as well. So world won't accept that, as well as many Indians.

Then the stoopid people, if they don't like it they would try to get it removed.
Would pick one of the most controversial thing, like India's map. For the world It's not what we accept, so people will be like "it's Indian Social Media, how can you allow foreign propaganda".. blah blah. Then there is Kashmir issue, people won't like getting questioned, and will probably burn the offices of the SM company. And govt. won't do anything as it don't have any independent institution, every institution works on the whims of (political) executive, whi*ch only works for votes/power.

In contrast to this, US social media (Meta, Twitter, Reddit) can allow all this (they do restrict stuff, but at much lower scale, that's cause of their own wrong doings and want concessions from the govt., but still allow most stuff except chxld pxrn and sadistic stuff), and do allow all kind of stuff including the stuff whi*ch US doesn't like. (While in India, govt. get everything removed whi*ch they don't like, from caricatures to jokes to news reports, even full accounts. With no reasonable way to get those reinstated back.)

Fcking Indian govt. wants to remove community comments from X because they want to keep lying! They called in people from Meta after June July protests. Have been removing thousands of posts daily, and restricting many accounts completely (but not of actual violent people, FP).

___

Then there is concept of privacy (esp. from govt.) whi*ch is alien to Indians, Indian SM would be forced to put out ALL the data to the govt., and many s\* Indians will support the govt. too without understanding what can govt. do with all the data. With current limited data they can stop any public person in India. They just imagine their govt will always be good, or the one they like, so they will be safe.

Currently govt. can ask information of any company without court ruling, and they are forced to do it. If there is Indian SM, govt will have direct access to the data, like they have to banking data.

US is not very nice but still they follow proper procedure for most data requests (assuming their CIA, FBI have access to data for some stuff. But because the institutions are independent, and people inside the institutions are independent too (!! completely impossible in India), that's why the same institutions funded projects like Tor, force companies to make their data collection transparent.

___

Can Indians allow a company to be completely independent? Will govt or citizens allow such a space ever?

I am questioning this more than ever now because even independent institutions are becoming less independent now (from RBI, SEBI to ECI, CAG, courts, even SC now (yes, govt have a say who becomes the judge in the first place + no restrictions on post retirement benefits + lack of security)).

Will Indians ever understand Free Speech? Logical Thinking?

(And to everyone who wants to say "US govt. also do this...", this is about comparison. Think will Indian SM be more free?)

PS: 'whi*ch' is written like that as it's flagging the post, idk why.
